Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is one of the region’s most respected privately operated dementia residential and nursing care homes, offering exceptional, person-centred care for older adults.

Set within beautiful green-belt countryside, the home enjoys uninterrupted views across the surrounding landscape. A long private driveway leads to the original 19th-century house, which has been sympathetically extended over the past 30 years to provide comfortable accommodation for up to 50 residents.

The grounds are a particular highlight. Landscaped lawns and a sunken garden are carefully maintained, while a spacious rear patio provides an inviting area for residents and their families to relax and enjoy the peaceful rural setting.

Although wonderfully secluded, the home remains conveniently close to local amenities in Tottington and a short distance from Bury town centre. Excellent road links also place Bolton and Manchester within easy reach.

This review is a massive thank you from all of the family of our Mum, Mother-in-law and Grandma who we picked up this morning (Tuesday 19th January). She had been in hospital after a fall in mid-November and then at Gorsey Clough for about a month. The care and compassion she has received has been second
to none. The staff are all angels and are totally dedicated and professional - a few boxes of biscuits doesn't seem adequate to convey our thanks to them all. We have all missed her but knew that she was completely safe and extremely well looked after in Gorsey Clough. It is down to the dedication of everyone at Gorsey Clough that she has recovered from a serious fall and a number of very serious illnesses. We all thought we may not see her again but she is now back at home being cared for by her family and all thanks to Bury NHS and Gorsey Clough. Remarkable. Thanks again.

From the moment my 90-year-old mother arrived at Gorsey Clough, my wife and I felt at ease. My mum was quite poorly on arrival. The amazing care and attention showed and given to her was absolutely wonderful. They cared for our mum, every day, with drinks and food specially prepared as she had difficulty
swallowing. Her personal care was excellent and she always looked well cared for. The staff were so compassionate and patient and showed mum tender loving care. My wife and I visited most days and we were well informed on her condition/wellbeing each time.
The cleanliness in each room is of a high standard.
The setting of Gorsey Clough is idyllic and peaceful surrounded by countryside.
We would certainly recommend Gorsey Clough as the nursing home to consider for your loved ones. A well run establishment by the manager.

My dad has dementia and when he needed to go into a home, it was extremely traumatic for all the family. He had bad experiences at two other care homes before he came to Gorsey Clough. From the very start of his time at Gorsey, he has been so settled and happy. The staff are very caring and make a real
effort to get to know the residents and tailor activities to suit their needs and experiences. The home manager is very innovative and approachable, but everyone who works there takes an interest in the residents and seems to want them to be content and happy. I feel very reassured with the level of care he receives and the quality of life he has in Gorsey. Their approach during Covid 19 has been outstanding.

My grandma is a resident at Gorsey Clough, after being in a different care home previous. The change in her was amazing. The staff at Gorsey Clough are so understanding, and the amount of work they put into caring for everyone is second to none. The relationship between staff, residents and relatives
is a homely and friendly one. The management always keeps relatives up to date with activities that are happening in the home and any changes that are occurring.

“What a fabulous home this is"! My mother has been at the home now for over 5-years, she moved here from another local care home who couldn’t cope with her needs. She is encouraged to be active, involved and engaged by the manager and his fantastic team. Visits are a joy as Mum is so happy when we see
her.
The tea and coffee making facility means that we can enjoy a drink of tea together.
I can’t praise this service enough. The way Gorsey Cloughs staff have risen to the challenges of covid-19 is absolutely amazing. I can’t praise and thank the managers and staff enough.

Our mum came out of the hospital and had to have nursing care. My brother and I looked around other care homes and was impressed by the management, staff and the home itself. We only saw mum for just over a week when the lockdown was unforced, today was the first time I was able to visit. I am now totally
reassured we made the right decision. Three members of staff (including the manager) kept us informed regular and updated us. We know, as a family, that we have made the right decision; Mum is settled, happy, comfortable and safe.

Mum went into Gorsey Clough in February, from the minute we visited, we were welcomed by friendly staff. I have worked in care homes, and I was a bit dubious after what I've seen, I have never ever met a manager who is so easy to talk to hard-working and professional. I will never be able to thank each
and every one of the staff for the way they look after Mum. I praise the home to everyone I talk to about Mum, which is every day, she's our world.

Can I please say a huge and sincere thank you to you all at Gorsey Clough.
We saw Mum yesterday and she looked so well, content and generally in good spirits.
The look on her face when she saw us was heartwarming and emotional. The constant, professional and personalised care you all provide is appreciated
by us all.
Booked in again in a weeks time and can't wait.

Dad has been at Gorsey Clough for just over a year now, he is far more happy and content than he was in his previous nursing home. The professionalism of all the nursing staff has proved itself throughout the year.
This professionalism has been shown even more, in this terrible period with Covid-19.
The way the residents, staff and the home have been shielded and protected goes above and beyond the normal care. The staff from cleaners, through to the management team have shown tremendous care, patience and love to all residents.
The home is all recently refurbished to a very high standard and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are lots of activities provided to stimulate and amuse residents throughout the day.
The whole team are all absolutely fantastic, we could not ask for anything better.

Thank you to the manager and his staff for looking after my Father-in-Law these last ten months (until he sadly passed away 27th March 2020). It was with regret we had to put him in a nursing home but I was very happy with Gorsey Clough after looking around and talking to the manager and the staff.
It was so clean and a nice atmosphere. The staff were lovely, friendly and very caring. I could sleep at night knowing that he was well looked after and was treated really well. He could be grumpy at times but that was never a problem to the staff. He loved the food and seemed to be very content there. They keep you informed about everything and are always on hand should you need to discuss anything. Dad was well looked after and cared for and the staff are lovely. Highly recommend.

The two and a half months that the dedicated team of staff and nurses looked after my lovely mum at the home was, without doubt, a very distressing time for all our family. However, the care and attention she received helped alleviate worries and at all times we were supported by everyone at all levels
in helping Mum to be as comfortable and as happy as she could be in managing the symptoms of her deterioration due to advanced Alzheimer's disease.
It was a comfort to know that all the staff cared about her and were very sad when the disease finally took hold and she passed away. I will always look back on the last months of her life and remember the kindness and compassion that staff at Gorsey Clough showed us throughout this difficult time.

Mum has been a resident at Gorsey Clough for about 6 months. The staff and management are very much hands-on ensuring that the levels of care and comfort are consistently maintained. The care provided is professional but friendly. They meet Mum's needs and nothing is too much trouble. Everyone has been
very patient encouraging her to eat to the point where she now has a go at feeding herself. The recent changes to the decor and furnishings have been done thoughtfully and aimed at the residents, who suffer from dementia, creating a warm environment. All staff are approachable and are always there to help with any concerns regarding Mum's health and wellbeing. Knowing she is happy and safe has always been my priority and I am happy to leave her in the care of the Gorsey Clough team.

The staff at Gorsey Clough are some of the most patient people I have ever met. When faced with residents with challenging behaviour, they are only ever kind and friendly. They have been lovely with our Mum. It's worrying when your loved one is in residential care and the staff just make this process
easier for all concerned. Thank you for all you do.

Our mum had dementia for three years. She moved into Gorsey Clough in August when she became quite poorly. She quickly deteriorated and was confined to her bed. The nursing staff were absolutely amazing.
They constantly checked on her, moving her, trying to feed her and supplying her with the medication
she needed.
Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were caring, thoughtful, helpful and very professional. I can't fault them, their care was outstanding, right to the end of Mum's life.

I recently visited a relative of mine in Gorsey Clough.
I live quite far away so don't get to see him very often. I just want to say how wonderful the staff are at Gorsey. Everyone was so welcoming to me and made me feel instantly at home. Their care towards all the residents was compassionate, professional
and at times, fun!
There was a great game of throwing the beach ball going on which was just priceless to watch. I left my relative tucking into a wonderful roast dinner and felt reassured greatly about his care.

Dad has been in Gorsey Clough for 2 years now.
The home has undergone recent changes including its management which has made it go from strength to strength. The manager and his staff have become dad's family and care for him way beyond their job descriptions. The environment has been adapted especially
for residents with dementia and this has greatly impacted upon my dad's wellbeing and ours, as a family. Dad is safe and loved and well cared for and I cannot recommend Gorsey Clough highly enough.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.700)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.700) out of 10 for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
