Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is one of the region’s most respected privately operated dementia residential and nursing care homes, offering exceptional, person-centred care for older adults.

Set within beautiful green-belt countryside, the home enjoys uninterrupted views across the surrounding landscape. A long private driveway leads to the original 19th-century house, which has been sympathetically extended over the past 30 years to provide comfortable accommodation for up to 50 residents.

The grounds are a particular highlight. Landscaped lawns and a sunken garden are carefully maintained, while a spacious rear patio provides an inviting area for residents and their families to relax and enjoy the peaceful rural setting.

Although wonderfully secluded, the home remains conveniently close to local amenities in Tottington and a short distance from Bury town centre. Excellent road links also place Bolton and Manchester within easy reach.

Gorsey Clough is a great care home. I feel complete confidence that my dad is safe and well cared for. The staff are so caring and gentle with my dad and other residents. They are very good at communicating with us about any issues or concerns they or we have. It is like home from home, freshly homemade
cooked meals, plenty of activities to keep them occupied and a cinema room. My dad doesn’t use it but when I’ve seen the other residents using it you can see how happy and relaxed they are.
It’s so nice knowing my dad is happy and content and doesn’t need or want anything different as they provide and care so much.

Nothing but praise for all the highly professional, kind and compassionate staff who cared for my husband during his stay at Gorsey Clough Nursing Home. As a family, we were warmly welcomed by every member of staff who introduced themselves and asked if there was anything we needed, nothing was too
much trouble. The cleanliness of the home was outstanding and the decor was tasteful and cheerful. My husband's care was exceptional, his dignity was maintained throughout and his comfort and safety was their priority. He enjoyed a varied menu and his laundry service was most efficient. The home manager invests in his staff, treats them well and he should take credit for the excellent results. An outstanding nursing home with great leadership.

When we realised that the time had come for Mum to have residential dementia care we struggled to find the right nursing home for her due to her needs. It was a difficult time for the family. We were so fortunate to find Gorsey Clough. As expected it took some time for Mum to settle but with patience
and careful monitoring of her medication, reassurance and love and care, the team at Gorsey Clough helped her to settle. She enjoys her new home and seems happy and content, enjoying the varied activities that the staff provide. We know that she is safe, secure and loved and cared for and that is so reassuring to the family. The team also care for us as a family, helping us to come to terms with Mum's needs as her dementia progresses. Thank you so much! We would highly recommend Gorsey Clough to other families.

My mum was brought into Gorsey Clough in December 2021, since Mum has been here she has done amazing and the care she gets is second to none. All the carers are so loving towards her, it's so clean and it's run extremely well with the manager. I can't praise this nursing home enough, every member of
staff is amazing, I always feel so happy when I see Mum now as she is doing so well and it's all because of the care and love she receives from everyone there. They make sure she has always got her dignity. Love you all, keep doing what you're doing.

My mother was admitted to Gorsey Clough for end-of-life care in May. In the short time that she stayed there and up until her death, she remained comfortable and dignified. Allowances were made for all members of my family to visit and spend valuable time with her in the peace and tranquillity of her
lovely room which looked out onto surrounding farmlands and amazing views.
Thank you to the manager and all staff for looking after Mum so well. We really couldn't have asked for more.

The last three days have been horrendous for us as a family. We have cried, laughed, and reminisced on the life of our relative. We have sat with him and helped him through the last two and a half days of his end of life pathway. We cannot thank the manager and the rest of the lovely staff at Gorsey
Clough enough for their support, love and care to our father and to us, they have fed us, kept us going with endless cuppa’s and biscuits, but most of all, they have shown compassion, love and support to each and every one of us. You guys do an amazing job, and for that, we thank you and will never forget you. From the bottom of our hearts, keep doing what you do how you do it. It’s worth more than gold to us that need it. Much love to you all. Thank you.

It was an extremely sad and distressing time for us when Mum reached her end of life pathway. However, the staff at Gorsey Clough were just amazing. They treated Mum with the utmost dignity and care. Equally for us as a family, they were so caring, tremendously supportive and understanding. They understood
our needs and our anxieties, nothing was too much trouble. With the restrictions imposed due to Covid, we worried whether we would all get a chance to say our 'goodbyes', however, the manager and his staff understood the need for Mum to have her family close by and arranged a system whereby we could all be there for her. Mum had been suffering from dementia and was admitted to Gorsey in the summer. The difference in her demeanour was unbelievable. She was obviously very happy there. I would like to thank the manager and all his staff for the wonderful treatment and care they gave my mum during her time there, and for allowing such a peaceful and dignified end to the life of a great lady.

The staff at Gorsey Clough, and the level of care that they provide, brought my mum back from the brink after she had given up on life. The challenges that Covid brought, together with being separated from family, accelerated my mum’s dementia, and sadly her previous care home failed to meet her needs.
Following a hospital admission back in July, it was decided to change Mum’s provider and Gorsey Clough was recommended to us. The change in my mum after only a week was extraordinary! She regained her spark, her appetite, and her love of food. She is now always clean, well-dressed, happy, and smiling and it is evident that Mum is comfortable with all staff, and in her surroundings. It is so important to us as a family that Gorsey Clough take great lengths to maintain Mum’s dignity and enhance her quality of life. I no longer have to worry about Mum while I am not there, as I know she is content, happy, and well cared for and I put total trust in Gorsey Clough and all that they do.

My father spent his last 3 months in this lovely home, the manager and his staff were always helpful, kind, and caring, in particular the nurses who looked after him in his final week, I am thankful and grateful. The home is bright and clean with a lovely feeling and fabulous view, a great menu, and
lots of activities going on and are regularly put on social media which has been a godsend throughout Covid. I would highly recommend Gorsey Clough Nursing Home they manage to make very difficult and challenging care easy and as comfortable and homely as possible. Well done.

Absolute top-class nursing care provision at Gorsey Clough. Mum's been in Gorsey Clough a little over a year now in the most challenging of times. It is a testament to both the management and care team at the home that we have nothing but praise and thanks for the way they have looked after Mum during
this time. The team goes above and beyond to look after Mum and also to keep us updated, which hasn't been easy given the backdrop of Covid. Just an extremely well-run nursing/care home. As a family, we wholeheartedly recommend the home.

After transferring my grandma from another nursing home where my family were not very happy with the level of care, it's been a very positive move and I can see my grandma is so much happier now. Every single staff member I’ve encountered throughout my visits have all been very welcoming and friendly.
The nurses have been fantastic with putting a very structured management plan in place, which meets all my grandma's needs. The room, which my grandma is in, is very spacious and always clean, the domestics do a great job. My grandma is always complimenting the food, and this shows as she’s now putting the weight back on which she had lost in the other nursing home. I feel very reassured that my grandma couldn’t be in a better place.

I would just like to say how brilliantly organised Gorsey Clough have been regarding visiting in these unprecedented and difficult times. My husband has been a resident for 3 years. It has now become his home and I regard the staff as my family and dear friends. I understand how difficult it has been
for homes to manage to visiting during the covid outbreak but Gorsey Clough, led by the determined and caring manager have been incredible at offering a safe environment for us to visit our loved ones albeit across a room in a safe but still warm manner. When Christmas was looming the manager was aware that I would be on my own for the first time ever. He discussed possible ways in which I could visit my hubby and along with another relative who was alone we spent the most wonderful time with our loved ones. He made this possible by PCR testing the week before and a lateral flow test on Christmas morning. I will be forever grateful to the manager and his wonderful team.

I was a visitor to the nursing home on a couple of occasions. The home manager was so welcoming and friendly and so we're all the staff I met. I couldn't have felt more welcome on my visits. The residents are well looked after, clean and content in their environment. The home is extremely clean and
well represented. The manager has done fantastic with the decor of the home. The home is well led with a great team. I rate this nursing home 5 stars.

After transferring from a very large corporate-run care home facility, it has been an extremely positive move that could not come soon enough. All the care staff, reception, health care assistants, nurses, the well-being team and the manager have been truly supportive and caring with a genuinely holistic
approach to care. The change is going from no visits (even window waving) to being able to have face-to-face visits (at a designated safe distance) within the home has had a truly remarkable impact on my father-in-law and the wider family as a whole. Within a few days of being a resident at Gorsey Clough there was a marked change for the better in personality and overall well-being. The face-to-face visits have been invaluable after not seeing a loved one for months on end and where 'facetime' for Dementia sufferers is not appropriate or viable a lot of the time. Covid awareness and safety have always been a top priority within the home and I have always felt safe on visiting.

Gorsey Clough is a nice nursing home. Great management team and lovely staff which makes it feel like home for my mum. She has done brilliantly over the last 12months with medical needs and walking problems. She has just improved so much! We are very happy with her process. The manager is forward-thinking.
Staff are brilliant with my mum as if she is her daughter. She has helped me with knowledge over lockdown. So leaving this review is a pleasure.

My mum has Alzheimer's and has lived at Gorsey Clough for 2 years now, in that time the care, compassion and love she has been given is outstanding. The manager is very friendly and approachable, the staff are all amazing, so caring and compassionate. The 2 ladies who take care of the activities for
the residents have made it possible for us to visit our mum at times during COVID by going above and beyond to keep everyone safe - truly exceptional ladies. Thank you Gorsey Clough on behalf of myself, my family and especially my mum - you are all amazing.

My grandma has been at Gorsey Clough since March 2020 (just before the pandemic began). Since moving, she seems much happier, cleaner and well looked after. The staff are really friendly and have been excellent during the pandemic with visiting and video calls. They have kept us updated throughout;
uploading pictures, updates and upcoming activities. I feel much more relieved and happy that I know my grandma is in excellent hands and being well cared for. I cannot describe the change we’ve seen in my grandma since moving her and I would highly recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.700)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.700) out of 10 for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
