Thames House is situated in a quiet, suburban area of Rochdale and has been specifically designed to provide the best possible care for service users.
Making every day better for service users is the aim at Thames House, working with them to achieve personal goals and outcomes. Staff actively encourage care and activity plans to be updated regularly, enabling the service user to be happy and well cared for.
Hollingworth and Pennine are the two 10-bed units within the home. Each unit has a lounge and dining room. Service users and families are encouraged to decorate bedrooms to suit personal tastes; each room is also fitted with TV and telephone points and an accessible en-suite wet room.
Within the dining rooms, service users are encouraged to eat together at mealtimes. The varied restaurant style dining menu is developed with the service users to ensure everyone enjoys foods to their taste, and personal preferences, condition-specific and dietary requirements are all taken into account. Thames House specialise in the use of food moulds, which make pureed foods more appetising for those who experience difficulty swallowing.
Service users at Thames also benefit from NHS specialist consultant visits. Neurologists, psychologists, GPs and Huntington's Disease Association experts visit the home on a quarterly basis to avoid changes in routine for service users. Families are also given the opportunity to be directly involved in the consultation and benefit from first-hand information regarding their loved ones.
Social activities within the home are run by both activities staff and service users. As well as group activities, staff facilitate individual hobbies and interests, as well as supporting access to education where possible.
Staff routinely catch up with service users to ensure they are happy with life at Thames House. Family and friends are also encouraged to be involved in the life of their
