My mum went into Aaron Court in July after a hospital stay. We were told it was rehabilitation to get her home, but by early September she was back in hospital severely malnourished, dehydrated, and with stage 2 pressure sores. We were told she was dying. She'd lost so much weight she was fiddling with
her wedding ring - worn every day for 56 years - and a staff member threw it in the bin. No apology. She was often left in bed all day, unwashed, in mismatched clothes that weren't hers, with matted hair and dirt under her nails. We raised concerns about pain she was in, but nothing was noted. The pressure sore was only picked up at hospital, who raised a safeguarding alert. The home smelled, felt unclean, and senior staff were dismissive. We were led to believe this was the right place - it wasn't. Our family will never forget what she went through at Aaron Court.

Not being cleaned, hair matted and filthy. When I have enquired apparently lots of agency staff this is still not acceptable. My mother's teeth went missing and all care staff could do when we asked was to shrug shoulders. My mother is not being treated with dignity. Yes I have complained and will continue
to.
Reply from Ellen Sharp, CRO at Aaron Court Care Home

We are disappointed to hear that your experience at our care home hasnt been the positive one we would like it to be, and would like to reassure you that we take all complaints seriously. Treating people with dignity and looking after the health, hygiene and wellbeing of those residing in the home is of paramount importance to us and we take pride in all aspects of the care we provide. We aim to keep agency use to a minimum but unfortunately there some occasions, like staff sickness, where we have no other option as we need to maintain staff numbers on the floor to support our residents. We have an open-door policy and always encourage relatives to contact the home if they have any concerns so that we can assist in resolving them immediately. We aim to use all feedback in a positive manner to continuously improve our service and care for our residents and their families.

Since my Mother's admission from hospital to Aaron Court in March to her being almost ready to go home, my Mother's care has been exemplary, even when my Mother was very challenging to deal with in the early days of her stay. As my Mother has improved, the staff have fully encouraged her to move about
and become involved with activities around the home.
From a family perspective, it has been reassuring to see and talk to Mother's carers at all levels including management, who have all been nice, caring people who, without exception, all made time to see me and discuss anything. This put my mind to rest in so many ways.
I have never seen my Mother eat so much before, as the food has been superb from what I have seen and my Mother told me. The portions were perfect - my Mother hates waste and so her portions were just right for her every time.
I cannot speak more highly and thank everyone.

Mother is happy and flourishing in the environment of Aaron Court. All personal care taken care of very well. The home is bright and pleasant. Staff are caring and take the time to spend time with each resident. They genuinely care and often go the extra mile. Residents would benefit from an activity
when feeling restless.

My father is in respite and he loves it here. He is well cared for and the change in him since being in is amazing. The care staff are lovely hard working and look after his needs. He loves having a banter with staff. He was bed-bound at home so to see him up dressed and shaved is lovely to see. I am
very happy with Aaron Court and know my dad is getting the care he needs.

The second in command is fantastic. Came with us to make sure the resident's next placement was the right choice, came in her own time. She wouldn't take any money for her brilliant help and asked all the right questions for our needs. All the other staff are really friendly.

The manager and her staff have been fantastic with my mother-in-law from our initial enquiries onwards. She was meticulously careful in assessing her suitability for the dementia unit, providing us with a certainty that her needs would be met. We were given a lot of support upon admittance and my mother-in-law
has been well looked after ever since. The care staff are extremely compassionate, despite dealing with challenging behaviour on occasion and always have the latest information on request, no matter who is asked. There is consistently a high level of professionalism which means we can relax in the knowledge that my mother-in-law is receiving the best of care. We are really pleased to have chosen such an excellent facility.

Initially, I was hesitant if not reluctant to place my wife in a care home. It is a big decision after being together for 68 years. On meeting the manager who was extremely professional and reassuring, she explained what I would need to provide for my wife. The care staff were excellent in handling
my wife, making her feel calm and relaxed in her new environment. My wife settled in well and any small problems were easily dealt with. I feel that I have chosen the best care home in the locality. All the staff look after my wife to a very high standard.

Dad is still quite a new resident who seems to be settling in ok. He has a lovely room. He seems to enjoy the food.
Although usually a very sociable man, he doesn't seem to want to join in with the others, but the staff are helping him to change that. If I have any queries/questions the staff are always
happy to answer. The staff seem to genuinely care for the residents, and look after them well.

My mother-in-law spent the last eighteen months of her life at Aaron Court and I have to say that she had a new lease of life whilst in the care of these wonderful people who treated my mother-in-law with such compassion and dignity, especially towards the end of her life. I cannot praise them enough
for all the happy days they gave her and they are truly amazing. They are caring, dedicated and truly focused on giving the best care they possibly can to all their residents in all circumstances. I would like to thank them so much for everything they did in caring for my mother-in-law, they are a credit to the healthcare and I would recommend them without question to anybody.
I was even blown away when two of the care workers who attended her funeral showed just how much they cared about her as a person, what can I say but a huge thanks again I will never forget what you did for her.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.144)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.144) out of 10 for Aaron Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.796 for Aaron Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (18 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 113 Ratings = 3.796
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.348 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aaron Court Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.6 = 0.548
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
