My wife has been a resident of Aaron Court care home in Princes Road Ellesmere Port Cheshire for 18 months and as her husband, I have spent a lot of time on visits. Sometimes care homes around the country do not get a very good press for various reasons, but I found it necessary to report that in my
experience, the service provided by Aaron Court is nothing less than excellent.
The caring standard, the nursing, cleaning staff and the management response to issues that arise are also excellent, sometimes in demanding situations.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the home to anyone.

Aaron Court have cared for my dad for the last 18 months until he passed last week. All the staff continually went above and beyond their job to give him the best care and a happy experience. We chose for him to stay in Aaron Court in his last few weeks and we felt all the staff tried so hard to encourage
him to eat, to try and stimulate him and chatted and tried to make his life as comfortable as possible.

My mum has been a resident of the Dementia unit for 5 years. In that time we have noted a drastic deterioration of the decor and cleanliness. Whilst the residential side has been redecorated and new hygienic chairs put in place, the chairs in mum's unit are disgusting (if a swab test was taken I dread
to think what the outcome would be) we have complained about the chairs over the last 2 years and keep being told that they are being replaced? I also raised the decor in the last resident meeting yet again last Thursday, I just feel that this falls on deaf ears. We are paying the full fee for mum's care and expect a standard and quality to be maintained at all times. As a family, we feel quite strongly about this and would like your comments, please.
Reply from Liz Daykin, Customer Relations at Aaron Court Care Home

Hi Leslie, Thank you for taking the time to review Aaron Court care home, we are truly sorry you feel your previous concerns have fallen on deaf ears. As you will be aware Hill Care group purchased Aaron Court care home as part of a portfolio of homes back in March this year. As a result of our new acquisition, we have now planned our redecoration and refurbishment projects for our new homes. I understand that all new furniture has been ordered and the decorators will be in the home within the next few months. Please speak with the home manager who will be able to provide more details on the plan for Aaron Court. Thank you for raising your concerns and if you have any further feedback for us please do not hesitate to speak to the home manager.

Rooms dismal, no air con in the building, tired state, constant urine smell, can't keep staff, constant turnover, night care abysmal, meals choice poor for the cost of care charged.
Patients left in bed for hours on end.
Terrible place.

My father-in-law was resident here for 4 weeks during early 2017.
I wrote a letter raising a number of issues, it would be nice to receive a reply.
Issues included poor assessment process and the wrong environment for my father-in-law's needs.
Restricted areas for socialising, lack of activities.
Understaffing
and strong unpleasant smell.
On a positive, all the staff were lovely and were working very hard.
Reply from Lindsey Bevan, Home Manager at Aaron Court Care Home

Dear Debra,

Please accept my sincere apologies for your father-in-law’s experience in Aaron Court earlier this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to advise you that Aaron Court is now under new management, as of August 2017, and an extensive, inclusive Activities Program we have, lead by two excellent Activities Coordinators.

Any assessment of residents choosing to move into Aaron Court are completed by myself, the home manager, and one other registered Nurse so please be assured the placement of residents is suited to their presenting needs.

There are many improvements underway, and more planned for 2018, including that the home is freshly fragrant and staffed to appropriate ratios.

We are pleased to hear though that you found the staff to be lovely, we do agree, and certainly strive to maintain this staff morale and relationship with residents and relatives.

If you would like to discuss any of the concerns you had, I would welcome your phone call here at Aaron Court, and the opportunity to reassure you of the positive direction the home is taking.

This is the second care home my mum has been in permanently. I was heartbroken having to make this decision, but since she ahs been at Aaron Court Care Home her wellbeing has improved and she has gained weight. The staff at Aaron Court have helped reassure me in the way they care and provide for her
needs and I believe they work very hard to keep my mum comfortable and safe. When issues have occurred the staff and management are very proactive to resolve and improve. I am very happy my mum is here.

My uncle has recently passed away after spending 3 years in Aaron court, spending the last 12months in palliative care suffering from Alzheimer's. The staff have been wonderful, treating him with respect and compassion. We have never had any cause for complaint.

A fabulous home with caring staff. Everyone is so dedicated, compassionate and very caring. They are also there for the family giving support whenever it is needed. Very clean, lovely food and always welcoming. They love their job, and we're very glad that they do. We couldn't have wished for better
for our mum. She died 29th June and the staff were wonderful.

Our mum has been at Aaron Court for 3 years. I would just like to say how brilliant, caring and dedicated the staff are. From the sisters, carers, domestics and kitchen staff. Our mum passed away June 29th and the months leading up to that were quite upsetting. We could not have managed without these
amazing people. Many times they loaned us their shoulders whilst we were upset and always managed to give us a hug. Our mum was treated like royalty. A big thank you to all the staff.

My Aunty has been a resident for a while, generally things are ok but the problem seems to be the food quality. My aunt is not very demanding and only complains when something is wrong. Most of the staff are fine but as always a few are not so pleasant. From my side of things, I have difficulty getting
any information from the home about any problems. I have looked at most of the care homes in the Chester area and this was the best we came across. If they could organise things better, this would be first class.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.144)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.144) out of 10 for Aaron Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.796 for Aaron Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (18 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 113 Ratings = 3.796
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.348 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aaron Court Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.6 = 0.548
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
