Mum has been at Winsford Grange for 20 months now. I've been impressed with all the staff from management, nurses, care workers, cleaners and activities team. I feel mum is being looked after very well and professionally.

The care home has improved over the last few months in many ways. Management, staff and building improvements in all areas. The care and attention to the clients is also much better. We would like to thank all staff on the units for their work and support and hope that those improvements will continue
in the future. The home has a lot to give. The place has a nice feel when you walk in now and a much happier place all round.

My dad went into the home in February 2024 when it wasn't that good. NO organisation staffing was an issue - level of care was non-existent, the home wasn't a happy place then in June 2024 everything changed for the best. - The manager was removed a higher nurse and staff. A particular staff member
was amazing confronting all the families saying things were on the the up after an awful time then we had a new manager. Wow what a change he has made, he is amazing, all staffing and nurses. It really is amazing the decoration is amazing and the staff are so much happier. :)

Christmas Day our daughter, son-in-law and myself had our dinner with my husband, we were warmly welcomed, had an excellent delicious meal, three courses, drinks all serviced by the activities staff and kitchen staff who had all worked on Christmas Day to look after and take care of the residents and
their families. My husband thoroughly enjoyed having his family with him. I often have lunch with my husband which he loves me to do. I look forward to these meals which are always well-cooked, well-prepared and tasty with a good variety, fresh vegetables and a pudding. The care staff were attentive and helpful.
Reply from Phil Benson, Executive Director of Operations at Winsford Grange

My wife came into Winsford Grange at the beginning of June 2024 after 3 weeks in hospital, prior to that, she had been in another care home for approximately 3 and a half years at which she was settled. My wife, at first, was placed on Austin wing which was unclean and messy, there was even an ants
nest in her room of which I complained and she was moved. Since then, there has been a dramatic change at Winsford Grange. She was moved to Chaucer Wing, this has had a wonderful effect on her, after a few weeks she became happier and more content than at any time in a care home. This is without doubt down to all the staff on Chaucer.
Reply from Phil Benson, Executive Director of Operations at Winsford Grange

Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We're so glad to hear that since your wife's move to Chaucer Wing, she has become happier and more content. We appreciate your understanding regarding the initial concerns you raised, and we're grateful that the changes we made have had such a positive impact on her experience. Our staff are dedicated to providing the best care, and we'll be sure to pass on your kind words to them. Thank you again for your support, and we're committed to continuing to provide excellent care for your wife.

I can’t fault the staff but the general upkeep of the place is terrible. The gardens are overgrown and walking towards the reception is covered in weeds and dead plants the place looks really rundown.

My husband was a resident for 3-months, from June to September 2021. In the short time, he was there, he was well looked after and was always clean and tidy. Due to Covid, I could only visit twice a week, but the staff kept me informed between visits. Sadly he passed away peacefully in my arms, but
the staff were very supportive at the time.

Mum receives excellent care at Winsford Grange. She is kept safe and clean and when I visit, she always seems happy. The first time in a long time she says she is ok instead of being in floods of tears like she was in her previous home. The staff are excellent and genuinely care about her.

My mum has been in this care home for over 4 years. The staff have always been very kind and caring towards her. There was a spate of a lot of agency staff but this seems to have been addressed. During the pandemic, they have kept me updated and Facetimed so I was able to see her, due to her severe
dementia window visits would not have been appropriate. Excellent care.

I desperately didn't want our lovely mum to go into a care home but from day one, Mum was treated with dignity and respect. All the staff supported our family in coming to terms with Mum needing care and I felt comforted by their compassion and dedication to caring for all the residents. I will always
be grateful to all the staff that looked after my lovely mum and made sure that I could be with her, as she passed away. Thank you.

I have found Winsford Grange caring and helpful in all matters. Although the last year has been difficult because of Covid-19, for all of us, I feel reassured that my husband has been looked after expertly, with both care and affection. The staff are not only there for him, but for his family too. I
would highly recommend this care provider. Thank you for all you have done for us.

Couldn’t have asked for a better place for Mum to spend her last few weeks. We were all treated with the utmost care and respect at all times.
Mum was cared for in a loving way, by staff who clearly do not just treat it as a ‘job’.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.676)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.676) out of 10 for Winsford Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.393 for Winsford Grange is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.393
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.283 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Winsford Grange is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.583
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
