My mum has deteriorated massively in the four weeks she has been at Alston View and has already had a fall there, making her terrified of falling. She could stand and walk when she went in but now cannot currently do either. From day 1 we frequently found her alone in her room during the day distressed.
She has been offered drink against her SALT diet guidelines putting her at risk of aspiration pneumonia/choking (now with safeguarding). The manager was helpful before admission but day one after admission has been defensive, even hostile and difficult. Do not put your relative into care at Alston View, some lovely carers but little concern from management for my relative, only their convenience. From walking & sharing company with others she is now depressed & now practically bed bound. Desperate to get a move.
Reply from Lazarus Staziyo, Group Clinical Operations Lead (Gray Care Group) at Alston View Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your review which expressed concerns about your mum’s fast deterioration since being admitted to Alston View Nursing Home. While it may be improper to detail our conversation on this platform, I am glad that we agreed on the issues around your mum’s care needs and how staff will try and support her. May I reassure you that Alston View Care Home management and staff are committed to ensuring that all residents are supported with their needs as much as possible. We look forward to the MDT meeting where discussions about your mum’s future care needs will be discussed. Meanwhile please feel free to contact management or myself should you have any other concerns. Once again thank you for reaching out with your review.

My mother has been a nursing care resident since December 2018 and although there have been a few ups and downs along the way, we have always had confidence in Alston View. It would also be fair to say that there has been a dramatic improvement over past few months and I put this down to the open and
transparent management style of the manager. Whenever I have concerns, she always finds time to speak to me and puts my mind at rest. I firmly believe the overarching principle of the management team is to ensure all residents are treated with the utmost respect, empathy and understanding and I am pleased to report that this sentiment is shared across the board and that all the staff consistently uphold these high standards. Most importantly, I would unreservedly recommend Alston View as a first-class nursing and residential home.
Reply from Kylie Radcliffe, Manager at Alston View Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your kind words, Bruce. The feedback is greatly appreciated. All of the staff at Alston View work extremely hard to keep the residents happy safe and to meet all of their needs.

Think the Nursing Home could 'up' their standards a little. My mother's room could benefit from cupboards being wiped along with bumper on side of the bed. Door handles need sorting been like that for 2 years! I feel sad to think that because she is bed-bound and not able to express herself then all
these things do not matter. But they do. One carer last week fed my mother with a spoon and failed to wipe her face. I had to ask the carer to wipe it clean, which she did but with total disinterest. It's the basic kindness and care towards my mother is what I wish for but do not see much of this. There is much more I could say but things happen each time we visit and I come away upset.
Reply from Gaynor Abrams, Business Development Manager at Alston View Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your review. I believe that the home Manager has arranged to meet with you next week to discuss these matters, which I am confident will be resolved.

My experience of Alston View and the staff is extremely positive. The attention to detail and care is second to none. My mum has been so ill but the staff and nurses have taken such good care of her. I cannot praise them enough.

Before she came here, she was adamant she would never go into a home

but now she has totally changed her view on that.
It has been marvellous. Thank you so very much to everyone for taking such excellent care of my precious mum.

I visited my grandmother recently at Alston View Nursing Home. I must say that all the staff were lovely and my grandmother seemed to be really happy there. My grandmother's room is so cosy that it doesn’t look like it is in a care home. We could not be happier with her care. Thank you to everyone.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.982)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.982) out of 10 for Alston View Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.207 for Alston View Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 135 Ratings = 4.207
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alston View Nursing & Residential Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
