I am very happy with the care mum is receiving at Sandy Banks, where she has been treated with understanding, kindness, compassion, dignity and respect. All the staff are very helpful, kind and cheerful, and they approach their work professionally. Staff levels appear to be good. The nursing staff are
always available and have involved the family in mum's care plan. Mum had her own private room and she benefits from good support services such as laundry, hairdressing and days out. Overall the family is very happy that mum is being cared for at Sandy Banks.

Mum moved into this home from residential care premises when her nursing needs increased. From the moment we first visited and met with the manager we were impressed with the professional and caring attitude which was also apparent in the staff members we saw. When Mum moved in she settled very quickly
and although she is very weak and confused, due to her condition, it became immediately obvious that she is in the right place. She has now put on some weight and this is mainly due to the lengths the catering department go to ensure that she has things she likes and that her food is fortified. The staff also take the time and have patience to ensure she eats as much as possible despite her resistance to food. Every effort is being made to make her as comfortable as possible. The care plan she has is excellent and was produced quickly in consultation with the family. It very accurately reflects her needs and is under continuous review. Well done and thank you for your support.

Dad was a resident at Sandy Banks for a few months in 2018 and into 2019. He has now sadly died but we were very impressed with both the staffing levels and the quality of the staff as well. There were always nursing staff on hand and everyone was both friendly and helpful. Dad was content at Sandy
Banks and we felt comfortable with the care provided.

My Uncle has been a resident at Sandy Banks since October 2017 following a heart attack and a gradual decline in his health. After visiting Sand Banks we were impressed with the openness and honesty of the manager and found the staff to be very helpful when answering our questions. My Uncle has now
been a resident for ten months and in that time he has been well cared for by some compassionate and dedicated staff. Just as importantly the home has shown great kindness to my Aunty who visits on an almost daily basis. She has problems of her own but nothing has been too much trouble for the staff and they have gone out of their way to make her “part of the family.” Placing a loved one into care is a big decision and can often be traumatic, but based on what I’ve seen during my Uncle's residency I know I made the correct decision in placing him in the care of Sandy Banks.

Both parents are residents with very different needs. All of Sandy Banks staff show compassion and enthusiasm in their work and have a genuine desire to help. Mum is enjoying the social side of being with so many people and is in a place that can cope with her dementia bad days. We went through a number
of agencies whilst my parents were at home who all claimed to be able to deal with challenging behaviour and couldn't. There is plenty to eat with food trolleys serving drinks and snacks between meals. The home is a credit to the entire team.

Even from the 1st meeting at the care home, the staff were very knowledgeable about various behavioural problems, mum's medication and needs.
Before mum was accepted for Sandy Banks Care Home the manager came to see her and even when mum was exhibiting challenging behaviours I was assured she would
be fine here.
Mum has calmed down she has her moments but due to the skill, care and knowledge, the staff all seem to be able to cope with her. She is now eating, sleeping and not doing so many laps of the home now. Mum has even put on weight and my visits are so much more pleasurable.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.839) out of 10 for Sandy Banks Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.864 for Sandy Banks Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.864
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sandy Banks Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
