The staff here deserve a six star review. We visited my mum in law frequently over the last two years.
She has received wonderful care.
Health issues have been identified early, addressed quickly, and treatments well and carefully managed.
The staff have been attentive, concerned for her well being,
and looked after her with kindness. They have always been pleasant and helpful.
The home is spotless, Mum's room cleaned daily and thoroughly.
Food is good quality home cooking, varied menus.
Whilst Mum wasn't always able to join in, we were pleased she was in such a happy home environment, where there was always something going on to entertain and keep residents engaged.
A caring home, not just a care home . A marvellous team, wonderful people. We would highly recommend.

Mum was well looked after whilst she stayed at Springfield, the nursing staff in the day time were particularly lovely and caring, we have spent many hours a day at the care home and have found the care to be exceptional . Even if there is anything that we wanted to speak with the staff about they would
act on it straight away and always help where possible. I would definitely recommend Springfield if you are looking for a care home , it may not be as modern or as fancy as some care homes but when you need care for a loved one competent, caring staff matter and that's what you will get. The standard of care is brilliant.

For the first year of Mum's care I was very impressed with the level of personal care Mum was getting. There had been a number of items lost such as false teeth, personal expensive pod hearing aids, glasses and a handbag. Things where found and lost again and eventually the home arranged for new hearing
aids and new glasses to be provided.
Over the last few months general care, cleanliness and personal care had gone down hill quite quickly to the point that myself and my sister had to clean her fingernails which were filthy and clean her wheelchair & harness on every visit. We brought her own wheelchair and recliner from home as she is very small & they were bought specially for her. Anyone & everyone were put in those chairs despite the fact that they were known to be mums & the wheelchair has her name on it.
Gradually new procedures are being put in place and both Mum,s room and herself seem to be cleaner & better looked after

Overall care is reasonable. But there are several improvements that ought to be made. Every employee should wear a name badge. The lower floor carpets are not clean - they need replacing. There is not always sufficient staff to answer resident's needs - for example, getting to the toilet. The new system
of access/exit using a bell ring is not efficient and is certainly not fair on over-worked staff. There are many small improvement that should be made. For example, the lids are not replaced on commodes after use. There is not sufficient care in keeping rooms tidy - some clothes are just shoved into places and not carefully hung on hangers. The telephone system needs one small improvement - when calling from a car phone, it is not possible to "press button 1" etc using a key pad. The phone therefore should default to one person/office. Springfield could be excellent with more attention to small matters of concern.
Reply from Danielle Ball, Registered Manager at Springfield Care HomeThank you for your review. As discussed previously we are in the process of acquiring new name badges and this issue will soon be resolved. We have an active improvement plan and this is reviewed and updated all the time, we need to prioritise certain improvements and unfortunately not all tasks can be completed at once. The carpets are clean but are worn as this is a high traffic area, we do plan to change the flooring throughout the home. We have implemented a new fob system to access/exit the home, this is in place for resident safety and is currently proving to be very successful. There may be extra waiting times to be let into the building however, the safety of the residents is priority. Staffing levels are reviewed regularly and currently we have 7 direct care staff and 2 seniors from 8am-2pm and 6 direct care staff and 2 seniors from 2pm-8pm. Overnight we have 4 direct care staff and 1 senior. I appreciate your feedback and will continue to take on board your comments.

Staff caring and respectful of patients. Rooms are spacious and patients are allowed to make them homely which helps them. All members of staff are friendly and aproachable and will help with anything they can.
Home is managed well and patients and family are kept up to date of any changes.

The home always appears to be short staffed. Resident's room is not particularly clean with commode often not emptied stained and smelly. When meals are delivered the "carer" often leaves resident to move her table so she can eat. Bids aren't always supplied. Clothes are left strewn on chair or bed,
unfolded, creased and untidy. Drinks are often luke warm and hardly ever how the resident likes. My wife (resident) has had district nurse visits without ONE word being reported to me despite the fact I have lasting power of attorney. Its unacceptable.
Reply from Danielle Ball, Registered Manager at Springfield Care HomeI am deeply saddened by this review. I feel this is somewhat out of the blue considering you visit regularly and have not brought any of these concerns to my attention. You have a family member who works in the care home and i would assume that if any concerns needed to be discussed they would have raised. During the last 17 months i felt we had built up a bond and felt you would be able to approach us about any issues, so i apologise as this is clearly not the case. I can confirm that the home is not short staffed and the resident to staff ratio is currently 1:4. (Direct care staff) Your wife is able to position herself for her meals and is able to move her table in a position that suits her so the carers allow her to do this for herself as this promotes her independence. The cleanliness of her bedroom will be monitored. Lasting power of attorney comes into play when the other person lacks capacity, at this time your wife is able to relay information to you. Thank you for your review.

My mother in law was fortunate to be accepted into Springfield Care Home and I will be eternally grateful for their kindness, compassion and understanding. Every one of the staff have been amazing. There is so much going on activity wise too.My mother in law enjoys knitting and crocheting, and I approached
the Manager to see if they might take her to the local library to a class, and they agreed. Which is just fantastic as my mother in law enjoys it so much. They are 100% in favour of anything that stimulates and helps. A massive thanks to the whole team. Your kindness is very much appreciated.

Overall it's a very friendly and welcoming home.

Mum moved into Springfield in March 2024 and she settled really well quite quickly.
This is down to the staff at Springfield making her feel welcome and a part of the Springfield family.
All staff at Springfield are wonderful with the residents and their families, they are very patient, they give
residents time and are very kind and caring and encourage them to join in with the wonderful activities that are organised each week.
The food is also lovely for the residents.
As a family we are very happy with Springfield and the love and care that Mum has had during her time there.

Springfield Care Home was the perfect choice for my mum. From day one the staff have been very professional and reacted to any needs quickly. Care staff are all attentive and look after the residents to the best of their ability but to us as relatives, the home seems short-staffed. Communication from management to relatives is lacking, for example, we as relatives have to ask instead of being kept informed after doctor visits etc.
Reply from Danielle Ball, Admin at Springfield Care HomeThank you for your review, it is much appreciated. Your kind words about the staff team will be passed along to them and I am sure they will be grateful as they work very hard caring for all our residents. Staffing levels are regularly reviewed and our current ratio fluctuates between 1:4 and 1:5. Staffing levels are dependent on resident needs and resident occupancy. A dependency scoping tool is used to determine safe staffing levels. You feel the staff are attentive and care for the residents well which I also take into consideration when determining staffing levels, so I am confident that levels are currently safe. Your aunt has only been with us a short time therefore I feel we have not yet had the opportunity to build up communication channels. Effective communication is very important and I would be more than happy to discuss your concerns in person. I operate an open door policy so please feel free to come and chat when it is convenient. All feedback is welcome.

We recently moved my mum into Springfield after a stressful time at another local nursing home. The staff at Springfield are very professional and easy to approach. The whole atmosphere is friendly and the residents are given the attention and care they need.
Since moving here, my mum's whole personality
and well-being have improved, and we are very happy and satisfied with our choice.
Reply from Danielle Ball, Registered Manager at Springfield Care HomeThank you for your feedback; it is appreciated. We understand the pressure that occurs when finding the right home for your loved ones, especially after a prior negative experience. If we are able to reduce the stresses and pressures involved in this process then that it what we do. As a family, we visited lots of homes before deciding on Springfield Care Home. Since Mum has been here - 4 months, she has improved immensely from the daily stimulation of company, activities and the care she has received. The staff and management are friendly, caring, approachable and have a generally
welcoming, caring and friendly approach to both residents and their families. This is definitely the right place for our loved one.

My mum was in the home for just two years. She passed last Sunday. I can't praise the staff enough for her care. Over the two years, she had the best care, food and activities. Last week has been very hard, and the staff have looked after my sister and I so well. They made sure we were eating and taking
care of ourselves. The last day was amazing. Even at the end, Mum showed how much she loved the staff and was loved by them. Again, we can't thank you enough.
Reply from Claire Charnock, Admin at Springfield Care HomeThank you for those kind words. We were able to care for mum so well in no small part due to the input and teamwork we had between the management, the care staff and you as a family. We are happy to hear that, as a family, you had a positive experience in our home over the last two years and would ask you not to be a stranger and keep in touch.
Thank you again,

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.241)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.241) out of 10 for Springfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.491 for Springfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (122 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.491
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springfield Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
