I have been visiting a resident for at least six months now. I'm a retired nurse with experience in the care of the elderly for many years - my friend always speaks highly of the carers, treatment and food. Quite often in care homes, there's a smell of incontinence - bit not so at Swansea Terrace. I
feel the residents are treated with dignity, which I feel is so very important to the elderly. I have found all staff to be pleasant, welcoming, attentive and professional. I like the feeling of space at Swansea Terrace. If I need care in future years, I would definitely choose Swansea Terrace - so compliments to all management and each and every one of your lovely staff.

The staff are very rude when you find them. My friend was left in bed until after dinner and was never changed all morning. The food was cold and disgusting. Would definitely not recommend. There is no care at all. We had to take our friend out after a week.

We realise how difficult it is for families and friends when they have to make the difficult decision to move a loved one into a care home, particularly when they have been caring for them at home for so long. We are sorry that you have taken the decision to remove your friend after such a short time, rather than allowing her a settling and adjustment period within the new environment.

Early phone call with desk very helpful and obliging.
On arrival, shown to my friend's room, using a lift, by a kind male carer.
My friend lay almost flat with meal on tray. My friend was attempting to eat.
I helped her to raise the back rest - easier to eat that way.
A cup of tea was requested
- took an age to come. My friend does not require a beaker to drink from - the staff changed for a cup and plastic glass.
Bedding blood stained.
Medication delivered, not observed taking/swallowing it by a carer.
"Solid pads" bin in bathroom overflowing. Asked a carer to dispose of waste.
No handwash in the dispenser.
Bins too full to dispose of - paper towels.
Staff very kind and helpful.
Heard discussions of being short staff and redundancies.

Some top carers, very helpful and friendly. Original manager (March 2022) excellent but shipped out to another site. Some excellent professional nurses but also some examples of unprofessional/abrupt/argumentative behaviour from other nursing and other staff. The current manager and admin are pleasant
and keen to help but emails often unanswered. Some practices seem focused on convenience rather than person-centered care (e.g. putting residents to bed way too early). Regularly occurring phone faults after 5 pm (meaning you cannot talk to anyone) reported without fixing. Care staff reduction I believe by We Care Group. Gather evidence of any problems as a few staff (minority) can be defensive. Recent substantiated safeguarding concern. Ask specific questions about how relatives are faring. To repeat lots of good work and thank you again to the many carers (unfairly low-paid as a profession) and other staff, who were kind, open, responsive, and do the most valuable work. Room for improvement, however.

My mum has been in Swansea for 3 years now. All the staff I have met during her stay have been helpful, supportive, polite, and of course, caring. I've seen activities being provided plus entertainment such as singers etc. The food is good quality, well presented and based on the needs of the individual
residents. I feel my mum is safe and her medical needs are well managed by the nursing staff. Thank you.

My uncle was discharged from hospital to Swansea Terrace to be 'greeted' by the nurse with a barrage of verbal anger towards the ambulance personnel for arriving at 6.30 pm when their cutoff time for arrivals is 5 pm! In front of myself and my distressed uncle. Discharge times is nothing to do with
ambulance drivers. But this did not stop her from venting!
After being taken to his room and care assistants being wonderful in helping to get him into bed, I then went to talk to the nurse as there was no staff anywhere on the 1st floor to inform them of his particular needs. Was told to 'just go and find someone, they will be in a room somewhere' she's 'too busy putting his medication on the system' I went to another nurse and asked does nobody want to know anything about my uncle before I leave him here? Was told, No! She'll read the notes!
So first impressions, nurses are rude, no concern for the needs of patients or their family members. Priority was getting clocked off and not being late to leave work.

My father spent the last few weeks of his life at Swansea Terrace. The staff could not have been more caring and alert to his every need. They even arranged visits from the local clergy and SVP, which my Dad found extremely comforting. I cannot speak more highly of this establishment and I am so glad
that we chose Swansea Terrace as his final home when we as a family were no longer able to care for him personally.

Sometimes there does not appear to be enough staff available on the floor - I do know there have been problems in the number of staff available over the months. I hope this is rectified for the future.

Thank you for your review. The staffing levels are calculated using a dependency tool and we always try to recruit, train and retrain staff. If any staff should unfortunately leave, then we try and recruit new staff to replace them but sometimes, there can be a delay when following the correct recruitment procedure.

When my wife was admitted to Swansea Terrace mid-September 2017 after breaking her hip and also suffering dementia, we were told by surgeons the chances of her walking again were remote. She was 5 1/2 stone then, now she's 8 stone and can walk unaided. No need for a sling to get Mum up now, thanks to
the great people who care for her.

Our auntie and friend was a resident for 10 years at Swansea Terrace.
Thankfully throughout her time at the above nursing home, all staff worked hard to preserve her independence and respect her dignity. As her physical health deteriorated, appropriate care was always available. Despite changes in
ownership during the 10 year period, we were always confident that this did not impact on our relative, due to the very caring staff.
We visited frequently and can confidently say that every aspect of her care was met. She died peacefully in February, having received excellent end of life care.

Rachael is the Home Manager at Swansea Terrace with several years of care experience. Her main interest and experience are in managing successful care homes housing elderly and frail Residents. Rachael is very experienced in care home management and is committed to providing a high–quality service.


She is ultimately responsible for the effective and professional running of the care home but will allocate time to discuss any aspect of our Resident's care or any problems they may be experiencing. Rachael is keen to work closely and in partnership with our Residents, their relatives and significant others to benefit the Residents in her care. She is a dynamic team leader and has an ongoing interest in professional development and career progression.
