Saxondale is built on two levels and caters for 36 Service Users of 55 years and over. Day and Respite Care is also provided.

This well established home is involved in the local community and has an excellent reputation for providing a high standard of individualised care. Saxondale has been awarded the Silver Award for catering by Barnsley District General Hospital for nutrition and variety, for the past 2 years. This is currently the highest award that is offered and the Home have made it their goal to achieve Gold when it is introduced.

I would like to say how proud of you; a truly amazing manager, for keeping our Dad, other residents, your team and their families safe as you always do. Obviously, you and all your staff have been working seriously hard following policy and procedures to keep Covid 19 out of Saxondale. We have had peace
of mind as I know you and your staff care for our Dad, other residents, families and each other as one big family. The care you give is the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve been nursing a long time.
Keep strong together as a team keep doing what you’re doing. We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for your hard work and commitment to staying safe. We love you all millions.

During the past two months, my wife was admitted on 9th October. The staff of Saxondale have been both efficient and sympathetic in helping to come to terms with a difficult situation. I would describe Saxondale as a no-frill but very caring nursing home.

Words cannot express the thanks, admiration and respect I have for all the staff at Saxondale. Making the decision to place someone you love in a care home is one of the most difficult you will ever make. My mum and our family have been treated with dignity and respect. The tender, loving care shown
to my mum is second to none. They are very special people who work here.

Caring staff who make his life comfortable, safe and as pleasant as possible.
The home has improved over the past year. The environment is ok. Furnishings need improving and the sitting rooms are quite stark. Overall very good as staff are pleasant, caring and support residents. Outside spaces need
improvement. Needs investment in the building.

All the carers at Saxondale EMI Nursing Home are the nicest ladies you will ever meet. They are lovely to talk to and their dedication to the patients is lovely. Credit to them.
My opinion is that they are overworked and underpaid, God bless them.

My wife suffers from dementia and incontinence and because of my health problems I am unable to care for her. Having had to move her in and out of several homes we found this to be unbelievably good. If I didn't know better I would think she was getting better. She seems so happy and contented. I don't
know hat they do to stimulate her but she seems to remember some things/people she had forgotten. The staff are unbelievable in their kindness and care, not just with my wife, but all the clients in their care. When anyone asks about Saxondale I always praise it, it's a Godsend.

My husband has vascular dementia and has been a resident for 1 year. I have 100% confidence in his care. He is treated with warmth and dignity and all the staff are extremely helpful. I can visit anytime and am always welcomed. I would not wish him to be anywhere else. His needs are now very complex
but the staff treat him with such patience and understanding.

My wife seems very content and well cared for. She has been in several care homes for short periods, but this is the first home where she seems happy and contented.
The staff here are amazing and vigilant and caring. I have seen a big improvement in behaviour.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.814)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.814) out of 10 for Saxondale EMI Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Saxondale EMI Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.147 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Saxondale EMI Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.147

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
