My Dad has been at the Spinney since September. Since he has been here, my sister and I, have been really impressed by the way that he and all the other residents are looked after by all the staff. There is always an activity for them to be involved with, from music, games, crafts, guest dancers and
singers and many more. There is always a lot of attentive staff whenever we visit and they are also available to talk to relatives whenever we need. His bedroom and bathroom is always clean and tidy and his personal care is excellent. The kitchen staff work so hard too and provide lovely meals, snacks and special events food e.g afternoon teas. Everyone who works there should be recognised for the excellent standard of service they provide, the domestics, carers, nursing staff, kitchen staff, events co-ordinator, office staff, maintenance staff and the managers (apologies if I've missed anyone). My sister and I can't thank you enough for the way you are looking after Dad. 'Simply the Best'

My mum has been here since January 2025. She is well cared for. The staff and management are wonderful. Caring, compassionate and trustworthy. My mums needs are met daily. She is relaxed and feels at home here. She is always well fed. Clean and dressed well. She has a nice room . She spends her days
sat in the day room with other residents because she prefers this to being in her room all day. She is treated with dignity. The staff are consistent and there isn't a huge staff turnover which speaks volumes. The staff that I speak to daily know my mam well and know her needs again this is reassuring. The manager Toni works hard to address any issues and resolve them quickly if needed. There is a lovely homely feeling it's not clinical. Visits to view the home are walk and not made by appointment... this speaks volumes ... it says we have nothing to hide .. come look around any time. I found this very reassuring when deciding where to place my mam. I am extremely happy with Moss Cottage.

My husband,a resident at Marsden Manor, recently had an appointment at Burnley General hospital . He needs an ambulance to accommodate his stretcher, said vehicle came and he left home at 12/30 for a 2/30 appointment. After the consultation the ambulance was again booked and came at 5pm. It seemed
as if we were having a tour around Lancashire as it was as 7pm when we returned to the Manor. The staff were waiting for him, they were genuinely concerned about how he had coped, they got him into bed, had a warm drink waiting for him and food. You would have thought they were looking after their beloved father and that's what's good about the Manor the care the staff give your relative the best

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
On arrival the home looks very outdated from the outside. Inside is still outdated too and repairs still have not been attended to. This is unfair on the staff and also poor hygiene control with no running hot water for staff & visitors. I have a lot of respect for the staff as it is not easy. At
times personal care is not as it should be , We understand there are staff shortages but personal care is paramount. The staff are fabulous and are trying their best with limited resources in the home. The food always looks nice and smells lovely. Mum has no complaints with this and has a varied good diet. Activities are varied in and around the home to suit one's need but it would be nice to see the residents going out on short day trips. Families may be able to help with this.
You are straight there putting the fees up yet Mum's room as never been attended to since becoming a resident in 2018 and has been reported many times.

From the first telephone call, to visiting and subsequently my Dad transfering from hospital to Nelson Manor, as a family we were shown nothing but kindness, professionalism and care that went way beyond our expectations.
The management team are superb and this transfers to the staff. The atmosphere
is calm and welcoming. The residents are clearly happy. We are so grateful to you all for making our Dad's time with you as comfortable and dignified as possible. Nelson Manor is a very special place.

My mum feels safe here and on the whole the nursing home is good. However, the activities, I feel is the weakest point of this home. Most of my mum's interactions are through family and friends visits. My mum loves to craft but in the 6 months she has been in the home, she has done no craft.
Reply from Olivia Entwistle, Manager at Nelson Manor Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're really pleased to hear that your mum feels safe and well cared for - that means a lot to us. We also appreciate your honest comments about our activities programme. We're sorry to hear that your mum hasn't had the opportunity to take part in the crafts she enjoys. Please be assured that we are reviewing our current activities provision to ensure it offers greater variety and reflects the individual interests and preferences of all our residents.Thank you again for sharing your thoughts - they help us provide the best possible care and experiences for our residents.

My husband has been resident in Larchfield Manor for just over one year and has been well looked after during this time. He has a lovely room and access to a patio weather permitting.
He has recently had cataracts removed from both eyes and has been well cared for with medication and eye drops given
frequently there after. He is settled there which is a great relief to me.

The care home is well kept and clean, and the rooms are tidy and comfortable. The staff are very helpful, friendly and caring, but it does seem that it is a little under staffed at times. I'm kept regularly informed on my mum's condition and consulted immediately if anything occurs or if she needs anything.
In general, I'm pleased with the care she receives at Saxondale.

Whilst the home looks tired from the outside , inside it is clean , Senior nurse was open and honest re the CQC reviews and steps being taken to address record keeping . Staff looking after my Dad have been caring , taken time to get to know his needs and how he communicates them. Dad is always clean
washed and shaved . His meals have to be individually prepared and he gags put on a bit of weight since being there . My mum still likes to take him something she has made when she visits and this is never a problem . My daughter visits and takes her dog also not a problem .

There is a consistent main care team supported by Agency staff which does mean there are always new faces. Although Dad's carer when he had 1to1 was the same person .

Dad has been there just over a month and so far we are pleased with the care he is getting . He has Alzheimer's, poor hearing , vision , speech and now struggles to stand unaided . Following two strokes and a seizure in April / May this year .

Initial observations show that the building is tired and in need or some repair and tlc. However, the care team are amazing. The care, support and dignity the care team show and give is second to none. The friendship and support is also extended to myself and other family members. The food always looks
amazing and is a mix of traditional and seasonal. Entertainment is organised as best as possible and is always suitable to residents needs and capabilities. A social media Page keeps me updated with up coming events, photos of my mum enjoying in house and external organised entertainment and other general information. Regular updates with mums care plan keeps me involved too.

0verall there has been an improvement with systems in place for visitors entering and leaving the care home.
The staff have always been friendly and helpful.
The standard of care has varied from agency carer to carer as I feel attention to detail has not always been accountable. For instance, knowing
what a nail brush is for, or a feminine hygiene spray is for.
The food and menu has been varied and enjoyed.
The building itself is looking more cared for and the maintenance chap does a great job.
Just outside that needs more attention perhaps.

One criticism would be that the returned laundry isn't always the owners!
Perhaps putting socks or underwear in a laundry bag with the room number or residents name on would make sure these items were returned to the proper owner? There has been several occasions when mum has clothes that don't belong to her on, or in her wardrobe and she has plenty of her own, with names in.

Reply from Laura Booth, Home Manager at Saxondale EMI Nursing HomeThank you kindly for your review Janice and highlighting key areas that our wonderful staff team excel in! I sincerely apologise for the mix up with Mum's laundry and will speak with her keyworker to rectify this. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and I will be sure to pass on your suggestions on how to improve the laundry system with the team. Thank you again.
