Mum was only with Oaklands for a short period of time before she passed away recently, but throughout her stay, the staff were amazing. Their care and attention to detail for Mum were excellent, and my wife and I were so grateful for everything they did both for Mum and ourselves - especially in making her final days so peaceful.

I've always found staff very friendly and helpful. They work very hard to make the residents feel valued and the care they give is very appreciated.

The home is pleasant, staff are helpful they find time if you need to talk about any activities, problems etc. You may have about your patient. the staff are security conscience and apply the rules are prescribes in their leaflet. The manager is very approachable and staff are very good with my mother. All in all I would tell anyone asking about putting a parent in the home. Yes, they will be well looked after,

During my stay at the care home, my view of the staff and how the care home is run did change. From why don't they do more to how did they manage to do so much. All the residents have different physical and mental needs. So looking after then when Covid is still causing problems makes you realise that care homes and carers are on the from line of social care.

There could be more staff which would improve things. They seem to be worked very hard with long shifts and do not seem to be able to get proper breaks with no meal provided. The staff turnover is fairly high caused by the above.

The care home is an extremely well kept and clean place.

The staff always seem to be smiling and helpful. The home has a variety of things to do during the day and evening. The one let down is the lack of trips out. This is due to lack of staff available to push wheelchairs. This is very disappointing to those who look forward to the organised days out.

My mother has been in the care home for nearly 2 years. During that time, she has been cared for very well by the staff.
They have a good variety of food to choose from which promotes healthy eating.
They have regular outings which she really enjoys and my father can come along and enjoy too.

This gives all the residents a big boost to their health and wellbeing.

My husband receives good care and attention since having a very serious stroke that has left him paralyzed and brain damaged.

The staff are very kind, helpful and courteous at all times and nothing is too much trouble for them. I visit every day and have seen this for the last five months since he was admitted, so I see the care that is given and feel reassured that he is in safe hands.

My aunt spent the last 48 hours of her life in Oaklands and I cannot fault the care she received. She had only spent a couple of days in Oaklands the previous week as her first time in care and was then admitted to hospital. Despite being discharged from the hospital for palliative care on a Friday with a very poor discharge letter, the staff took all our concerns on board and took very great care of her through her last hours.

Thank you

This was the second period of respite in Oaklands. The previous week (last year) has been successful, with no concerns. We had hoped to use Oaklands regularly. However, although staff were friendly and helpful, my husbands skin was not cared for. He had difficulty negotiating the very steep ramp safely in his powered chair and there was no TV provided this time (had to rush out and get one a day of admission). These concerns were reported to management and appeared of be taken on board.

Reply from Andrew Savage, Managing Director at Oaklands Care Home

We are extremely sorry that we did not get things 100% right on this occasion, our Home Manager has addressed all concerns with care. We are also currently looking at the front entrance ramp, this is the first time we have had any concerns expressed about this ramp.

The new owners have recently invested in a new extension and general refurbishment of the premises to improve the facilities. The overall standard of care is good and the residents are safe and secure. The staff are friendly and helpful.
