Hi, my name is Dean, and I am the Home Manager here at Chestnut Lodge Care Home.
I have worked in care since I was 19 years old. I started as a night care assistant, and since then, I have worked in various roles throughout social care. I have a long history in turnaround and support management roles. I hold my Level 5 in social care and management. My aim as manager of Chestnut is to ensure that all our residents have a happy and safe home and receive care and support in the way they want to.
I am a Registered Nurse with over 11 years of experience in social care and currently work as a Deputy Manager. I have always been passionate about caring for others, and supporting people to feel safe, valued, and respected is at the heart of everything I do. I chose to work in social care because I genuinely enjoy making a positive difference in people’s lives, no matter how small. In my role, I take pride in supporting both our residents and staff, helping to create a warm, homely environment where people feel comfortable and cared for. I really value the relationships I build with residents and their families, and I feel privileged to be part of their journey while leading a compassionate and dedicated team.
Originally, I was only going to be working in care for 3 months; however, I fell in love with my work. I love being able to make a difference in someone's life. When people used to ask me what I did for a living, I used to say, "I help make people smile every day and help to improve their quality of life, and I get paid to do this. How lucky am I?" This still stands true to this day, fifteen years later. I have worked as a carer and then as a senior carer. While I am now an administrator, it is still in the care sector, as this is where my heart is.
