Overall Experience

It’s now coming up to 3-years, and as a family, we continue to be very happy with the care provided. It was a difficult time over the Covid lockdowns as we were not able to visit Mum for over a year. The staff did everything possible to keep us connected, including facilitating video calls. It’s lovely now for me and my brother to be able to see her again on a regular basis. We have siblings abroad, so we can Skype them during visits. The unit has been refurbished to a high standard, and it is a lovely environment. Mum’s care is individualised, and the staff know her well enough to be able to take care of her needs down to the little details that matter to her. An example is when they play her favourite music which keeps her calm. Despite her cognitive decline, Mum appears generally to be very content. We are grateful to all the staff for keeping her safe and well cared for.

Dear Teresa, thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. It is our privilege to look after your mum. The team has loved getting to know her, finding out her likes as well as what she needs to be happy and content in her own home, so your kind words mean the world to us, now more than ever. Thanks again.

My mother is now 90-years of age and has been at Shakespeare Court for nearly 2-years due to ill health. She seems happy with her room and the care she is receiving and gets along with the staff all very friendly. I have found the staff and management to be very caring, friendly, helpful, and understanding, also through COVID, which has been a challenging time for everyone, all staff and management have handled the situation extremely well, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all. So for all the reasons above, I would highly recommend Shakespeare Court as a great care home.

The staff are very caring. There is a lovely atmosphere. It has a homely atmosphere in that it does not feel clinical. It is good for someone who likes to socialise and have activities. It has a safe environment. We have never needed to complain about our mother's treatment, security or well-being. While she was a resident, her weight was able to increase from her initial unhealthy lightweight.
Mum's 4-year's living at Shakespeare Court has been a very positive time for Mum and ourselves (daughter and son).

Sometimes it has been difficult to get through to staff on the phone. Also, it can take a few minutes to answer the door when we have come to visit.

I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they gave my mother during her time in Shakespeare.
The staff were caring, even when Mum was difficult due to her dementia.

The staff were also so supportive of all the family, during my mother's final days.

Since my father has moved into this home, he is happy, he has gained weight, he previously had a lot of sleepless nights and had a lot of aggression. But now the home has monitored him and made changes to his tablets, we have our dad back. Although our father's speech has gone, he had full understanding as to what you are saying. Dad joins in with the activities and the carers have expressed how happy he is in himself.

Overall, this is a fabulous care home and I would highly recommend the home the staff and the management.

It's simple. This place wouldn't be where it was if it wasn't for the staff. They offer a huge amount of support to both me and my Dad. They connect with him on a personal level and this was seen in all its glory when he was taken ill in hospital. The reaction from the staff was as though one of their own family members had been taken ill. They create a positive relaxed environment for their residents and really know how to get the best out of each and every one of them. A great team working together to provide the best possible care for their residents. This doesn't just feel like a job to them.

It was very upsetting for my mother and her family when the time came for her to be admitted into a home. The staff have been great when supporting my mother and reassuring the family. My mother went through a difficult time and took a while to settle into her surroundings, the staff were professional and caring throughout and always make the family feel welcome and keep us updated throughout my mothers care.

Friendly staff, they are very helpful. Always seem to have staff interacting with patients. There is a real sense of love for all who live in the care home. Always find time to give an update on general mood of my father whether it be good news or not so good so making it easy to help or keep up to date with my father. It is a great place and I can see an improvement in him, he's put on weight, laughs more, even tries to chat. 360% turn around from last care facility because that place wasn't a 'home'.

Shakespeare Court has made a huge, positive difference to my mum's and my family's life. She is well cared for, happy, settled and calm. My relationship with my mother is now the best it has ever been. Knowing my mum is safe, clean, eating, taking her medication is such a massive relief. Instead of being a mum to my mum, I can visit and just enjoy the time with laughing and relaxing. I can't thank the staff enough for their care, patience, manner and kindness to all residents. They have given my life back and no longer worry about my mother not eating, washing and wandering the streets. A huge thank you. I have already recommended this care home and now my friend's mother also is a resident.

The staff are very caring and take a lot of interest in my mother, learning about her needs and little quirks. They comfort her when I have been around and inform me of what she has been like, (without me even asking).

The room and facilities are 10 out of 10 and looks very homely, She is always clean and well dressed, I feel that she is in a very good place.

I have always been passionate about caring for others, and supporting people to feel safe, valued, and respected is at the heart of everything I do. I chose to work in social care because I genuinely enjoy making a positive difference in people’s lives, no matter how small. Originally, I was only going to be working in care for 3 months; however, I fell in love with my work. I love being able to make a difference in someone's life. When people used to ask me what I did for a living, I used to say, "I help make people smile every day and help to improve their quality of life, and I get paid to do this. How lucky am I?" This still stands true to this day, fifteen years later. I have worked as a carer and then as a senior carer. While I am now an administrator, it is still in the care sector, as this is where my heart is.
