  • The Grange, Selby
The Grange Care Centre is an exclusive care home in Selby and the surrounding North Yorkshire Area, welcoming short and long-term residents.

The house has enjoyed a varied history since becoming a care home in the 1960s and was largely destroyed by a fire around the turn of the century. Many of the house’s original features, including the ceilings, ornate covings, and stained glass windows in the main house have all been retained along with the staircase and large landing which is popular with those seeking quiet relaxation.

The main house has undergone extensive refurbishment and now offers studio care apartments. These studio care apartments offer all the benefits of a registered care bed, with the independence of apartment living. The studios have bathrooms, kitchenettes and space for relaxing or entertaining.

The newer build of the home has a further 30 bedrooms, some with en-suite facilities, dedicated to caring for residents with dementia, with a real focus on daily living and emotional support and care.

The home can offer enhanced dementia and residential care, as well as inviting respite and daycare. It also offers two Bariatric bedrooms within the home.

Care has been taken throughout the home to ensure that the 'old' and 'new' blend together harmoniously. Although the original house is undergoing modernisation it still retains the atmosphere of a family home. The home has a friendly experienced care team and an experienced team of cooks who create delicious and nutritious home-cooked food, which also covers special dietary requirements.

The home provides access to a secure garden.

Carers are passionate about respecting each individual's rights, privacy and dignity, with the addition of a comprehensive timetable of activities.

The home offers a range of services and facilities, including its own GP access; visiting dentist; visiting opticians and visiting chiropody.

I can not fault this care home. The care what staff give out is amazing. As soon as you step in the home you get a friendly vibe and a lovely smile when they greet you at the door. The home always smells fresh when I come in. My granddad has been in the home for over a year and a half and I can not
fault the care the staff give him. The manager and deputy manager are both amazing ladies who you can talk to about anything thing, and they will do anything for you. The staff in the home treat everybody amazingly and are always doing something with the residents, the activities that are held at the home are really good as well.

This care home is a lovely place. The setting is really inviting and the staff are all very caring. My friend has been there a couple of years and she is very happy there, she is always telling me on my visits, how helpful the staff are and how good the food is. I have visited around lunchtimes and
the food always smells lovely. I was asked on my last visit to have a meal with my friend and it was as good as it smelt - all home cooked. The Manager is extremely friendly and always involved and you always see her around the home and the residents know her well which I feel is very important. I feel she leads her team well, which reflects on the care given to the people that live there. There is always exciting activities going on and you can see everyone having fun and getting involved. I would highly recommend this home and feel as I am getting on in age, I would happily live there when and if the time comes where I feel I need to live in a care home.

The Grange was my mums home for six years. She was always well looked after, all the staff knew her likes and dislikes and treated her with love and care.
The food was good and homemade, and my mum's sweet tooth was catered for, she always looked nice and her room was clean and tidy.
During my mums
final days, the care and compassion that was shown to my mum and our family couldn't be faulted, every member of staff no matter what job they did, were kind and caring.
I know that my mum was well looked after and happy during her time at The Grange.

The staff are fantastic and always there to give help and support. My Nana has stayed in a couple of homes on respite but then we moved to the Selby area and I have to say it was the best idea. When I first called I spoke to the Manager who was very warm and friendly and told us to come to look round
anytime so we did and I don't regret it.

The home is really welcoming and the Dementia environment is lovely and while I was being shown around by the Manager you could tell how proud she was of her home which made us choose The Grange straight away, The staff are all very helpful and make you feel reassured that you can leave your loved ones and know they are cared for and safe.
I would really recommend this home to all my friends who have loved ones who need to go into care.

The Grange is a lovely home with caring wonderful staff. From the Home Manager to the cleaner everyone cares very passionately. My Aunt is very happy there and always says how good the staff are to her she wants for nothing. The food is always home cooked and the home is always clean.

The Activities

are fantastic and the knitting group has been great. My Aunt really enjoyed knitting the poppies with the other resident's even the Manager joined in which is good to see as she is always involved with the care there. The display for the 100 years is a must to see it is very beautiful.

The home is a wonderful home. The Dementia environment is amazing, really good for the people that live there. I was a little bit worried about my nana going into care but after meeting the manager it eased all my fears. The manager is extremely helpful and very approachable, very hands-on and the same
with all the staff - you can tell they genuinely care for everyone staying in the home.
There is always good activities on and the residents are always happy. I would always recommend this home, the best in Selby by far.

We moved my Mum to The Grange due to dissatisfaction with care at another home. The management attitude appeared much more responsible, responsive and very caring to the needs of Dementia sufferers.
My sister and I have been impressed so far (she moved 17/04/18).
The staff are very pleasant and caring
and Mum has improved, she is now walking more and communicating better.
We are very happy with our decision to move Mum, the care is much better.

My dad was offered a place at The Grange for a period of respite care. I've been overwhelmed with the level of care and support given by staff and carers since he joined everyone. The rooms are spacious and clean, my dad enjoys filling and tasty meals each day and staff are always on hand to help or
have a chat, which is lovely and so reassuring to us as a family who have entrusted a loved one into someone else's care for the first time. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.237)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.237) out of 10 for The Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.723 for The Grange is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.723
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.514 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Grange is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.814
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
