Each of the 63 rooms has en suite facilities and is light, spacious and stylishly decorated. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms and make them as homely as possible. Mum entered Craven Nursing Home on 2nd November 2020, the week the second lockdown started, which was really bad timing. The staff have been great, keeping us informed about how she was settling in (slowly at first!) and facilitating Skype calls as we were unable to visit until the New Year. They are
always ready to discuss her care and issues and keep us well informed of developments. All this has helped us as a family tremendously: she had moved in very reluctantly.
When I first visited her this year (2021) I was surprised how much better she looked physically, which is a testament to the great care she's received. We can relax knowing that she's being monitored 24 hours a day.
There are less expensive care homes around, but you get what you pay for. I'm happy we made the right choice.

My friend had to go into respite care for a few weeks and I found on my visit (full PPE and very safe visiting regime) all the staff are friendly and go the extra mile, she loved the friendly atmosphere and activities that were arranged. My friend has told me she wants to go back. So to me that says
it all.

Mum has been resident here for more than two years and the last four months has been during the coronavirus pandemic. During that time mum (and her family) have been attended by friendly, helpful and professional staff, the fact that the home has remained Covid-19 free throughout this dreadful time
is testimony to their care. All the residents are treated with respect and dignity but most importantly with care and kindness. The home itself is modern and kept immaculately clean and odour free, unlike some that we visited whilst looking for a place for mum. The manager is very approachable and has proved more than helpful with help and advice, as, I hasten to add, have all the staff without exception. We looked at a number of homes before selecting Craven and I can thoroughly recommend it for those needing full-time care. Thank you all.

I would highly recommend Craven Nursing home. The staff were excellent at caring for my mum, who sadly passed away this month, not only were they good with mum but they were very kind and understanding with me. The facilities are very good with plenty of activities, the rooms are very nice and well
kept, the food seemed very good and the lounges and social areas were nice. Everywhere was very clean and pleasant.

Friendly cheerful staff. Inclusive game - activity. The menu looked varied and healthy.

My wife recently had a short end of life stay at The Craven Nursing Home. She was treated with the utmost care, respect and tenderness from all the staff who are a credit to the manager.
The rooms are light and airy and being allowed to have your own possessions in your room is a big asset to the
residents there.
Once again a big thank you to all the staff who help all the residents there.

Mum was in Craven Nursing Home for the final 9 months of her life and we feel very grateful for the excellent care she received. On one occasion when I raised a particular need she had, it was addressed immediately. Activities staff work hard to involve all residents in activities and where possible
outings. The little touches, like fresh flowers and white tablecloths on the dining table, gave Mum a sense of dignity. As well as being friendly, professional and caring the staff also paid attention to Mum's individual needs, especially in the final weeks of her life when she received truly outstanding care. We felt like part of a large caring family and shared so many hugs and tears with many of the staff - cleaners as well as carers and nurses.

Very clean and well-equipped nursing home.
Meals are plentiful and varied.
The rooms are modern and really nice.
Views are by the canal at the back and gorgeous.
As for the staff, outstanding.
The nurses on duty are highly professional and know exactly what to do at all times.
The carers are handpicked
I imagine for their caring nature.
They looked after dad through his latter stages of dementia like he was family.
Palliative care was given with great dignity and lots of attention.
A true credit to nursing and caring.
I felt welcome always and part of the whole big family.
My gratitude will be eternal.
I never worried about dads care and thank god I could sleep at night, unlike a previous care home.

My mother has been resident in this care home for over two years and has, at all times, been treated with respect, empathy and good humour. Across the board, staff are not only kind and polite to residents but also to relations and friends, willing to spare the time to chat and discuss any concerns
we may have. As a family we couldn't be happier with The Craven Nursing Home and are thankful for the support it provides.

The main thing for me is the wonderful care she is being given from all the staff. This has given me the assurance that she is in the best place to be in. I now have the confidence to take holiday breaks. I also like the regular update I am given on her condition.

Hi, my name is Steph. I am the Registered Manager at Craven Nursing Home.


I have worked here for over 20 years, starting as a Care Assistant in 2002. I have been a Registered General Nurse now for over 15 years. I was Clinical Lead on nights for a year before being promoted to Deputy Manager in January 2020, and subsequently Home Manager in June 2023.


My passion has always been Palliative/End of Life Care, being able to deliver Person-Centred Care, in a respectful and dignified way to our residents and giving support to our relatives.


I enjoy delivering the very best care to our residents with kindness, dignity, and compassion. We have very experienced and caring members of staff at Craven, and I am proud to be part of this fantastic team!

I always knew I wanted to be a nurse when I was a child, and from a young age, my passion allowed me to make this a reality.


Growing up in the East London Borough of Hackney, with strong family values and a proud, caring Mum, I always had a great desire to help and care for my community.


I started my career working in a Stroke Unit in London, progressing to become a Sister in a Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic Ward in Manchester. Here, I was promoted to Ward Manager, where I led a close-knit and effective team. I was proud to have championed many new initiatives, ultimately leading to us achieving and maintaining a Gold standard Ward Accreditation for several years running.


My husband and I decided to leave the rat race of the big city and move to the countryside, where we could bring up our three-year-old son on a farm in Lothersdale and pursue our hobbies of gardening, veg growing and walking.

Working as a Nurse in a Dementia Unit was always challenging yet fulfilling. Now, as the Swan Unit Manager, I’m excited to continue making a difference in the lives of both our residents and their families. It’s truly a great honour for me to be part of their journey.

I thoroughly enjoy driving residents on outings to various destinations, working as part of the Spellman Care Activities Team.


Outside of work, I’m a keen guitarist, composer, and music producer. I’m also a co-organiser of “Groovy Happening,” a music event based in Howarth that has been running for 13 years. We’ve raised over £55,000 for Manorlands Hospice to date.
