The staff are so happy, they greet us as friends, we're made to feel welcome and most of all we're given the comfort of good care. The home just seems to go from strength to strength and it's a pleasure to see. The activities ladies, all we can say is wow, they make every effort to bring as much joy to a person's life. Our dear friend has been in care settings for some time now and by far this is the most assured we have ever felt. Thank you to everyone, you do your home every justice.

The food is wonderful, they do a Christmas dinner on Christmas Day for the residents and family so we can spend Christmas together, they always celebrate birthdays with cake and afternoon tea for all. They arrange raffles and anything made from raffles etc go to residents' fund so they can have good outings and entertainment. I don’t think my next of kin would still be with us if not for the caring loveliest staff.
We thank you very much.

Southwoods care home and staff have supported both Mum and our family with professionalism, compassion and kindness. The care is excellent, we make regular visits and it is lovely to hear the staff chatting with Mum whilst feeding her the meals. Excellent team. Thank you for your service.

During my mother's stay at Southwoods, I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Living 300 miles away, I could not visit very regularly. My daily contact by phone to speak with Mum was never a problem and the staff cheerfully took the phone to Mum so that I could have a conversation. If...
Not having to pre book a visit, I could turn up anytime and always found Mum's cleanliness to be extremely good.
The staff were very accommodating and cheerful.
Mum had daily visits from her friends in the area and not a single one raised any concern about Mum's care.
Thank you all for caring for Mum in what sadly turned out to be for only a short time.
Dear Mark

My aunt was admitted for end of life care directly from the hospital. She was immediately happier and eating hearty food provided by the home. She talked about each member of staff and how kind they all were. When we visited, we were warmly welcomed and shown where she was at that time (eg, in the dining room or her bedroom). They were in regular contact giving us updates on her medical condition. Sadly, my aunt's illness meant that she deteriorated quickly, after only a month in the nursing home, but during that time, we were able to sit with her for as long as we wished, and the staff provided us frequently with refreshments, including freshly prepared food. Every member of staff - nurses, care assistants administrative and support staff - were so kind. Our family cannot thank them enough.

Thank you isn't enough for all the love and care shown to my mother.

I really think that there are loads of things that need to be looked into at the home. Staff and training; staff need more understanding of the residents in the home and their needs, understanding of what residents can and can not do for themselves. For example, leaving tablets in a cup when that person can't grip or hold things due to arthritis in the hands. Or knowing that the resident has also got a swallowing issue and could choke and the staff should have a little more time with the resident rather than rushing in... there is your dinner, tea, etc. then rush back out. Staff should check in more times on the resident, not leaving them alone for long periods of time. One member of the staff tells my mother she has to get out of bed to change her stoma and yet other members can do the job whilst in bed, that gives me the impression that the staff are not trained enough.

Dear Gordon,It is with regret that despite the best efforts of our manager, deputy manager and our provider trying to call you (to which you did not answer), you have made these false accusations against the staff, to which our documentation proves to be incorrect. We understand that during the pandemic, it is extremely stressful not being able to see your mother as normal, but at times we have found your behaviour to be very threatening and extremely difficult despite our best efforts. Whilst dealing with the challenges of the pandemic, we have done our best to answer your queries and emails immediately, explain to you and keep you updated regarding your mother's care. We asked your mother's GP to call you and explain your mother's health to you, to which you seemed to understand and be grateful for.
Despite this malicious review and our explanations to you, we are still trying to reach out to you and we hope you will accept our offer to meet for the best interest of your mother.

Fixtures and fittings could be improved, e.g. some carpets and furniture look past their best.

Dear Jill, thank you for your review and your constructive feedback. I understand it has been a little while since you have been able to see the home because of the pandemic. However, I would like to assure you that in that time the corridors and lounges have all been redecorated and a lot of the furniture, fixtures and fittings have all been replaced. Bedrooms are being redecorated as they become available. The corridor outside your mother's room has been redecorated. We can also assure that activities are a major part of the wellbeing of our residents and you are more than welcome to discuss this with our management. We look forward to welcoming you to Southwoods when possible to show you the new improvements that have been made.
Wishing you health and safety during this difficult time. Kind Regards.
Excellent care. Lovely people, great food and a lovely place where I leave my loved one with no worries knowing that she will be looked after. Staff are always lovely and well prepared for any situation.

Meet the Team (1)

"Dear All....
"Dear All.I am delighted to be joining the team as Care Home Manager and look forward to getting to know our residents, their families, and our dedicated colleagues. My career in health and social care has spanned over 15 years, during which I have held leadership roles focused on delivering high-quality, person-centred care and supporting teams to achieve the very best outcomes for those they care for.
Throughout my career, I have been passionate about creating environments where residents feel safe, valued, and able to live fulfilling lives. I believe that excellent care is built on strong relationships, compassionate leadership, and a culture where residents, families, and staff are listened to and respected. I have experience leading teams through service improvements, developing staff, and maintaining high standards of care, quality, and compliance.
In this role, I hope to bring a positive and collaborative approach, supporting colleagues to grow and succeed while ensuring residents remain at the heart of every decision we make. I am committed to fostering a warm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels part of the home community and where families have confidence in the care their loved ones receive.
What excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to build on the home's strengths, develop meaningful relationships with residents and their families, and work alongside a dedicated team that shares a commitment to excellence. I am looking forward to celebrating successes together, creating new opportunities for residents to enjoy life to the fullest, and helping shape a positive future for the home”
