Stanley Park is a bright, welcoming home, where the skilled and caring team delivers personalised care with dignity and compassion. This includes short-term and permanent residential, nursing and care for people who are living with dementia.

Each bedroom within the County Durham home has en-suite facilities and is well furnished. Many of the bedrooms also benefit from views of the lovely garden, which ground flor rooms have direct access to. The 24-hour nurse call systems offers ultimate peace of mind.

Group and one-to-one activities are tailored to residents’ hobbies and interests, and the lifestyle team also organises visits from entertainers and regular trips out. At Stanley Park, residents tell the team the sort of home they want, and the team makes it happen.

The whole experience has been nothing short of excellent It's not just care that is given it's love and I love to see how happy and comfortable they make my mam The work undertaken is exceptional The manager and his team senior staff cleaners younger staff members are amazing It has taken me personally
a lot of time to recognise that this is what mam needs but they have made me feel comfortable too my family have all been made so welcome and encouraged to engage with her asking our advice what we want for her and encouraging her to do it too
There is lots of activities on for her to do and gradually she is coming round and engaging in them The Christmas activity programme was amazing Such a lot of hard work goes in by all the staff and any worries or concerns we have are dealt with appropriately We are kept updated with everything Any correspondence Any concerns they have about mam
They ensure her dignity is preserved and her personal care we are so thankful for everything

From the time my wife arrived her mood and body language changed. She relaxed and became positive. This was because she was made to feel welcome. The staff have been professional, conscientious and caring. They get things done promptly, this has enabled my wife to settle quickly, and also there are
many activities and areas to relaxed. My wife is lively and commutative, so her days are full of interest in order to please her, no stone is unturned. I am extremely grateful and relieved that my wife is so content.

Overall very happy with the care our mother received. Couple small issues but soon rectified. Home was warm, clean and smelt pleasant not like some others I've been in. The care our mother received towards the end was excellent and the food trays we received. Those last 2 days was a surprise and a lovely
touch.

The chief had rang in the morning sick. The residents had pizzas and chips for lunch. There was general chaos as staff numbers were low. There weren't enough chips for Mam, and her pizza was cold by the time the staff were able to serve her in her room. I felt for the staff who, without a manager or
deputy, had to resolve the situation. They did well and were cheerful about this. However totally unacceptable for staff & residents.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Stanley ParkThank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding Stanley Park. We are very sorry to hear about the disruption to service during your visit and fully acknowledge that the experience you described was not acceptable.
On that day, the chef called in sick unexpectedly, and unfortunately, both the manager and deputy were also unavailable. This placed additional pressure on the team, and while they remained positive and did their best under challenging circumstances, we understand that delays and meal quality suffered as a result.

I would like to assure you we have now taken several steps to ensure this situation will not happen again. We now have a bank chef in place who is on call and available for any such eventualities, providing immediate cover when needed. In addition, we have sourced a supply of high-quality, pre-prepared meals that staff can use if needed, making our system more robust and responsive moving forward.

It’s also worth noting that, on the day in question, residents were asked and chose the meal option provided, which was pizza and chips. However, we recognise that not everyone received their food in a timely or satisfactory manner, and for that we sincerely apologise.
We appreciate your understanding and your recognition of the staff’s efforts. We remain committed to learning from these situations and ensuring high standards of care and service for all our residents.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly if you would like to discuss this further. Best wishes

The only TV lounge with noisy disruptive residents, shouting, squealing and banking. His bedroom is bare because ornaments and possessions go missing or get trashed. His new TC set after seven months and the screen is cracked. His bedding isn't changed regularly/for six weeks and even when soiled, he
is prescribed two Tena pants by his GP but he is not given them by carers. On three occasions when visiting, he was still in his pyjamas at 2 pm, afternoon. So have to wash and dress him myself. I am 85 years (no towels in room). I have seen other residents wearing his clothes, and I can't afford to provide other people with clothes/need locks on wardrobes.

The staff are amazing and do everything they can to look after my nanna. We know it’s a very busy home but nothing is too much trouble. My family have never had a problem with my nanna being well cared for and she looks so much better than when she was at home alone.
The home is spotless and Nanna
says she really enjoys her meals and has even put weight on.

The staff are very approachable. Residents are treated with dignity and respect. Relative opinions are listened to - suggestions in the main are implemented, but reminders are needed on a regular basis of routine/personal hygiene requirements! Feel confident that staff are caring. It would be nice if
residents received support and encouragement to be involved in routine "household" tasks, dusting and making a snack or drink. Staff are excellent at communicating any concerns and allaying our anxieties in the event of any falls etc. 100% confidence in them keeping residents safe.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Stanley ParkWe are delighted to hear that your experience of care at Stanley Park is a positive one. As part of our person-centred approach, our activities are arranged around residents’ preferences and, where requested, this can include day-to-day routine tasks that help to provide a purpose. All residents receive regular and appropriate support with personal care; however, we will raise your concerns with the team leader.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.557)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.557) out of 10 for Stanley Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.721 for Stanley Park is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.721
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.836 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Stanley Park is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.2 = 0.986
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Andrew Astin-Rae

Job Title: Home Manager

I served in the Scots Guards for 25 years before moving into adult social care. My military background gave me strong leadership skills and a calm, adaptable approach, which I now use every day to support residents and colleagues at Stanley Park.

Before joining Care UK, I worked as a Home Manager and was drawn here because of the organisation’s strong values and reputation for delivering person-centred care. I believe the most important part of my role is being supportive and understanding, ensuring good communication and teamwork throughout the home.

I would describe myself as flexible and patient. It’s important to me to make time to connect with both residents and colleagues. My favourite part of the day is sharing a laugh or a fun moment with the people around me. Seeing residents happy and enjoying themselves makes me incredibly proud.

One of the highlights of my earlier career was taking part in the Queen’s Birthday Parade and seeing different parts of the world through my military service.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and camping.
