Each bedroom within the County Durham home has en-suite facilities and is well furnished. Many of the bedrooms also benefit from views of the lovely garden, which ground flor rooms have direct access to. The 24-hour nurse call systems offers ultimate peace of mind.

Group and one-to-one activities are tailored to residents’ hobbies and interests, and the lifestyle team also organises visits from entertainers and regular trips out. At Stanley Park, residents tell the team the sort of home they want, and the team makes it happen.

I have been visiting Stanley Park for about 2 years. In that time I can honestly say it continues to improve. The staff and management 100% have all the residents best interests at heart. The pub that has recently opened is amazing and is a hub of activity with music and fun.

The home is very clean,

welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. There is a constant stream of tea/coffee and refreshments and my mum has not been this happy for years.

I have been visiting Stanley Park for six months now on a weekly basis to visit my close friend.
I can't praise the staff enough for what they do the attention they give is astonishing. The home is very clean and well looked after. The home is friendly with a happy atmosphere and nothing is any trouble.
We love going to the pub on the ground floor. The management always has a friendly word and smile. The staff deserve a medal for the hard work and devotion they give.

There was an entertainer on at the home. All the residents and relatives that attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves, it brought my dad back to me for a day as he sang along to all the songs. It was a very precious moment for me. The staff excel in their care and consideration towards all the residents.
I hope that if I need to go into a home, the staff are as friendly and helpful as they are at Stanley Park.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Overall we feel the staff are very good and caring but find residents are left alone to sit around and seem so lonely because the staff are very much understaffed and don't have the time to talk to them which in our minds feels would help to stimulate their minds especially the residents who can converse.
The televisions are switched on but not much thought put into what's on, a film would be much easier for some residents to relate to e.g musical or cowboy film.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Stanley ParkWe are grateful for your constructive feedback and are pleased that you are happy with the care we provide. I understand that the home manager has now met with you to explain that our staffing levels are based on a dependency tool which is updated and checked on a weekly basis, and conforms to national staffing requirements. This is then used to plan staff deployment accordingly to ensure care is safe and appropriate for all residents at Stanley Park. With regard to the televisions, there is a structured activities plan in place which is displayed throughout the home to show what activities and films are on each day. We have various themed film days, such as Golden Oldies afternoons/Saturday Matinees which include the classic musicals. The needs of our residents on the Nursing unit are very complex and activities/stimulation is very important to our team and we are continuously striving to introduce new ideas and concepts. We do take your concerns and feedback seriously and would like to thank you for taking the time to share your views.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.557)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.557) out of 10 for Stanley Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.721 for Stanley Park is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.721
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.836 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Stanley Park is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.2 = 0.986
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I served in the Scots Guards for 25 years before moving into adult social care. My military background gave me strong leadership skills and a calm, adaptable approach, which I now use every day to support residents and colleagues at Stanley Park.

Before joining Care UK, I worked as a Home Manager and was drawn here because of the organisation’s strong values and reputation for delivering person-centred care. I believe the most important part of my role is being supportive and understanding, ensuring good communication and teamwork throughout the home.

I would describe myself as flexible and patient. It’s important to me to make time to connect with both residents and colleagues. My favourite part of the day is sharing a laugh or a fun moment with the people around me. Seeing residents happy and enjoying themselves makes me incredibly proud.

One of the highlights of my earlier career was taking part in the Queen’s Birthday Parade and seeing different parts of the world through my military service.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and camping.
