My father has recently been placed in care. The management team were very helpful, polite and empathetic to our situation. My father's room is airy and satisfactory. The nursing staff are friendly, approachable and treat my father with kindness and dignity.
The lounge/dining areas are furnished in
a homely way to make residents feel comfortable in their surroundings.

We have been delighted with our relative's experience. The staff are excellent - at all times polite, helpful and treat our relatives with respect. Having visited many care homes during recent years, we believe this to rate very highly - for surpassing many of the others. (I am unable to comment on
activities as his stay did not include them).
Generally - excellent in all aspects.

My 99-year-old father is treated with care and dignity. All the staff are incredibly empathetic and help my father with activities of daily living. They are quick to get help from the local GP and/or hospital if my father isn't feeling well and in cases of medical care. They make dad feel like he is
at home, taking time to have a laugh and a joke with him. I am grateful (very) to see dad settled and contended whilst knowing that he is being well cared for. Thank you team Rhiwlas.

Generally care is very good. Laundry loses a lot of clothes even though labelled. Not notified when my sister has a hospital appointment.
Reply from Lindsey Crone, General Manager at Rhiwlas Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review us, I will call you directly to discuss your concerns regarding laundry as I am not sure if you have brought this to our attention. Likewise, the hospital appointment, we need to understand.

Generally, mum's care has been good and the staff have been welcoming. On occasions, we have received conflicting advice as visitors. For example, can we sit in the resident's lounge? Staff seem sometimes rigid in their approach and unwilling to compromise when any difficulties or tricky situations
arise.

Thank you for your review, I will contact you directly to discuss your concerns as you will understand that during the last 2 1/2 years there have been many changes coming through from the government in terms of managing the pandemic and so I'm sorry if some advise was confusing for both you and the team and we continue to try our best to keep all of our residents safe.

All good, our relative is happy.
I do feel the front of house could be more approachable. Maybe as they get to know people better.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.330)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.330) out of 10 for Rhiwlas Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.748 for Rhiwlas Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.748
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.582 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rhiwlas Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.682
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
