My mother came to Charlotte House in mid February 2026, having been in residential care elsewhere for five and a half years. Mums dementia/alzheimer's had become more challenging and it was mutually agreed that she needed a different form of care, albeit not EMI. Charlotte House was just the answer.
Mum had a lovely room which was kept immaculately clean and she always had clean clothing available in her dressing table. The clothes cleaning regime was excellent, particularly as mum was incontinent and had very little awareness of her daily needs. The food was good and her carers and all staff were lovely, with good senses of humour, which mum liked, and they provided quick attention when interventions were required. Sadly mum passed away very suddenly at the beginning of May, and we received a very nice condolence card from the home.
Reply from Scarlett Ward, Relationships and comms coordinator at Charlotte House Care HomeWe were very sorry to learn of your mother's sudden passing, and we extend our sincere condolences once again to you and your family. It was a privilege to be part of her care, and we hope the condolence card brought a small measure of comfort during a difficult time. It means a great deal to us to know that she felt so comfortable and well-supported during her time with us here at Charlotte House, especially after so many years in her previous home. Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review, we truly appreciate it.

My Mum was a resident at Twyford for 20 months. The staff and the facilities were excellent and they looked after my Mum generally very well. But beware of what I believe to be unfair contract terms. In the last week's of her life she was awarded NHS funding towards nursing care. We believed that this
funding would go towards her Twyford fees. However, small print in the residents contract says that Lovett will take this funding in addition to the agreed fees. If applying for any State funding make sure you ask Lovett how it will be applied or read the contract carefully. I believe some other care homes do not take this approach.
Reply from Alexandra Fairhurst, Commissioning Manager at Twyford House Care HomeThank you for your response. Please may I offer my condolences to you on the loss of your Mum. I appreciate that this must be a very difficult time for you and your family. I am aware that the Home Manager has met with you to discuss this concern, and I am very sorry that you remain dissatisfied. Please be assured that this is a standard practice across many care homes as the FNC (Free Nursing Care) payment covers the cost of the Nurses we provide to our residents who have been assessed as requiring nursing care. You are correct in that some care home care homes work differently. In our experience this is because in those homes the fee charged initially includes an amount for the FNC payment. Therefore the reason it is repaid to the fee payer is because it has already been paid. We prefer not to do this because it would increase our resident's fees to our Nursing rate when they were in fact only receiving residential care. I am incredibly sorry if you were unaware of this.

When you arrive at the nursing home, always say "hello"; sometimes management acknowledges you. Now I am in customer service, it takes nothing to say hello. I know people are busy, but in front of visitors, always pass the time of day. When you ask a problem, you feel as if it a inconvenience, but when
being shown around. completely different. Very dissatisfied as pay a lot of money
Reply from Nikki Foster, Home Manager at Formby Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am very sorry to read about your experience and that you were not always acknowledging you when you arrived. At Formby Manor, we pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment to everyone who visits the home. A simple "hello" and acknowledging visitors is a fundamental part of good customer service, and it is disappointing to hear that this has not always been your experience. Your feedback is very important and highlights an area we need to strengthen. My parents came to The Rhallt in a respite capacity while waiting for a vacancy in an independent living home. From the outset, they received exceptional and well-balanced care that was appropriate to their needs and circumstances. The staff were consistently friendly, understanding, and attentive,
taking time to ensure my parents felt comfortable and respected.
The management demonstrated a high level of professionalism throughout, providing clear guidance and strong support in helping to plan my parents' next move. Particular efforts were made to accommodate their specific needs, which made a meaningful difference to their stay.
The home itself had an upbeat, positive atmosphere, which contributed greatly to my parents' overall wellbeing. Communication was effective and reassuring at all stages, keeping us well informed and confident in the care being provided.

My mum has been living at Twyford House Residential Care Home since last summer, and the care she has received has been genuinely outstanding. Moving into residential care, and coming to terms with a new disability, has been a huge period of adjustment for her - but the kindness and professionalism
of the staff have made an enormous difference.
I particularly want to praise Renji and Jean, who have gone above and beyond in the care they've given my mum. Both have been unfailingly kind, compassionate and morale-lifting. My mum is comfortable, well looked after, and genuinely looks forward to their chats and jokes - something that has meant more than words can properly express during a very difficult time in her life.
That said, this praise extends to the wider team at Twyford House. So many carers and staff members have helped make my mum's life not just manageable, but warm and humane. The overall standard of care has been excellent, and the dedication shown has made an otherwise daunt
Reply from Jo Hassey, Home Manager at Twyford House Care HomeDear Phillip, Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words about your mum's care at Twyford House. It truly means a great deal to all of us that you've taken the time to share your experience. We understand how significant the transition into residential care can be, especially alongside adjusting to a new disability, and we are so pleased to hear that your mum has felt supported, comfortable, and cared for during this time. Ensuring that residents feel safe, valued, and genuinely at home is at the heart of everything we do. Your special mention of Renji and Jean will be shared with them - they will be absolutely delighted to know the positive impact they've had. It is also wonderful to hear that your mum not only feels well looked after, but continues to enjoy those everyday moments of conversation, humour, and companionship.
