If we felt mum needed something, we were able to speak to staff on duty and they would attend to her needs.
In the last days of mum's life, the nurses and carers would ensure she remained comfortable and attended to escalating matters if she needed medical attention.
On the day mum died, the family were by her bedside and we were given the space to spend those last precious moments with her. The staff on duty were so caring and attentive and treated mum with the dignity she deserved.
I would not hesitate to recommend the care home to others looking for a suitable place for their loved ones

I am a qualified nurse and trained at the University of Central Lancashire, qualifying in 1999. Totalling 30 years of care/nursing experience, my passion lies with care homes, and I have extensive management experience as a home manager, including troubleshooting, care home turnaround and Regional management. These areas have given me a wealth of knowledge, and decided to come back into the daily running of the care home after being out and about, travelling many miles. I am proud to be part of the team here at The Grand and to work for New Care, working towards its vision. My team and I are dedicated to making each day different and special for residents.
The care we deliver is person-centred, ensuring that individual needs and requirements are met. It is important to us that residents retain as much independence as possible with support to continue pursuing the interests and hobbies they have always enjoyed.
Personal hobbies and interests include family, Horse riding and my three West Highland Terriers, Dave, Dottie & Alfie, A family unit themselves – you may see them in the home occasionally.
I have worked at New Care for 4 years and enjoyed my time at Ruddington Manor, but transferred to The Grand for a new challenge a year ago. I enjoy my job as a Care Manager and am now ecstatic to be successful in my new role as the Deputy Manager. I am able to have autonomy in my role, which helps me thrive and feel satisfied in my role. It's ‘Grand at the Grand’ as we say, and New Care look after their staff members really well with excellent opportunities for promotions, I can vouch for that. Every day is a different day, and I love that we can make our residents' lives special. I love seeing them smile every day.
I have worked for New Care for over 4 years. When I first walked into The Grand, I was amazed that a care home could look like a hotel; I was lost for words. I began as a Senior Carer and then transferred to the Wellbeing Team. I was then given the opportunity to lead the Wellbeing team.
New Care is a very family-oriented and person-centred company; nothing is too much trouble to meet the residents’ needs and wishes.
I look forward to coming to work each day, and I can’t believe I get paid to do a job that I love!
I only started working in the care sector in 2021 as a carer at the Grand, and in 2022, I was encouraged to become a Team Leader. I have to admit that it was very difficult at the beginning for me; however, with great support from our Management team and colleagues, I have learnt a lot and completed my Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care in 2023. I have been given the amazing opportunity to step up as Head of Care in 2024, and I am enjoying learning and developing within my new role. I love our wonderful team and am very proud of the care and support we provide to all our residents, families and staff. In my spare time, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, visiting interesting places and spending time with my family.
I lead our dedicated culinary team with over 15 years of experience as a Head Chef, specialising in the care sector. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding that food is at the heart of our residents’ well-being and dignity.
I believe dining should be a joyful, fresh, and engaging experience for everyone. As Head Chef, I oversee all aspects of our kitchen, from menu planning and meal preparation to ensuring that every dish we serve is freshly made and full of flavour.
One of my key strengths is working with my team to create meals that meet a wide range of dietary needs. Whether that means preparing diabetic-friendly options, catering for allergies, or producing modified texture meals, we always strive for nutritional balance, great taste, and appealing presentation.
I’m incredibly proud of our team. We work closely together to meet the individual dietary needs of every resident. I genuinely enjoy the challenge of creating food that not only nourishes but also brings a little joy to the table each day.
For me, mealtimes are one of the highlights of the day - a chance to connect, care, and make a difference through good food.
I joined The Grand in January 2024, bringing experience as a care home administrator from a small residential home. Since joining the team, I've made significant progress in my role and am currently studying for my Level 3 Business Administration qualification, with wonderful support from the company throughout. I'm passionate about my work and deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of The Grand Care Centre team.
Outside of work, I love travelling and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world. Before moving to England, I spent two years living in Canada. I arrived in England at 19, and in the years since, I've built both my life and career here. It truly feels like my forever home, which is why I recently began the process of obtaining my British citizenship.
I have been proud to be part of The Grand Care Home for the past five years. I began my journey here as a Hospitality Assistant, and after two years, I was given the wonderful opportunity to progress to the role of Head of Hospitality. I am deeply passionate about delivering an exceptional dining experience and take great pride in ensuring that every meal is prepared and served with care, quality, and attention to detail.
For me, dining is not just about food; it is about creating moments of comfort, connection, and joy for our residents. I am dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those who call our care home home. Together with my devoted team, I strive to make every mealtime a pleasant, meaningful, and uplifting experience.
My name is Chris, and I’m the Maintenance Manager at The Grand. I joined the team in July after spending 16 years in my previous role, and I’m really glad I made the move - I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here.
I’ve been working in maintenance for the past four years, and I take great pride in helping both residents and staff by resolving issues and repairing faults quickly and effectively. I’m an approachable and friendly member of the team, always willing to lend a hand and ensure everything runs smoothly around The Grand.
I feel very lucky to be a part of The Grand team. I started my journey as a housekeeping assistant and have recently been promoted to Head Housekeeper due to the love and devotion I put into my work. I take great pride in everything I do within the home, often coming in early so I can always give that little bit extra.
I'm highly motivated and care deeply about making sure our residents have a clean, safe, warm and welcoming environment to call home.
Nothing is too much trouble; with a caring and hardworking housekeeping team, we work together to ensure our home is the best it can be.
It's not work when you love what you do.
