Our mum came into the home in early June and the staff have been amazing, our angels. They not only look after Mum but also ensure that we are OK. We truly feel part of the family. The care and attention they give to Mum is first class. The food options are great, it is very clean and tidy. We were struggling to look after Mum at home but the team here are like angels and have enabled us to enjoy time as a family. We would be lost without them. I can't thank them enough for what they do for Mum (and for us )

My mother came into the home on the Dementia ward in early June when we found, as a family, we were struggling to look after Mum at home. The care and attention that has been given to her is wonderful. The well-being team have made sure she has Irish music and have printed off a number of different Irish articles to enable us to read to her. Where it is possible, they will also try and engage Mum in the activities. The care from the team is amazing, sadly my mother is losing her ability to feed herself and the team are kind, help her with dignity and are willing to go the extra mile. As a family, we feel very lucky and privileged

to have found a home which has so much care.

Overall Experience

My wife was admitted with dementia and the staff and care are excellent. They have time and patience to sit and help her, they help her feed, wash and dress. There is dignity in all they do for her and the kindness is exemplary. The room is cleaned and washed every day, there are numerous options for food and they are prepared to make anything my wife requests. I am treated with respect and they will sit and talk with me as I go through the difficult experience. There are activities that run every day and there is even communion offered to those who wish to partake. I cannot speak too highly of all the staff from the Manager to the cleaners. The care staff need the highest praise for their great attention to detail and time with the resident. In a very difficult time, the whole home has made it easier to cope, for which I am very, very grateful.

Bearing in mind that I would rather have been at home, I found the Grand to be a pleasant place for respite care with some very nice and helpful staff. It was a pity that there was little access to the outside. A more frequent breath of fresh air would have been welcomed.

Fabulous home, the care for my mum has been all I could have wished for. She has been in the home for two and a half years, all through the difficult Covid period. She wasn't very well when she came in and since being here she has looked better than she has for years, putting on weight etc. She is treated with respect and kindness and is always looking clean and well cared for. The staff are amazing with her and always friendly to her family visiting. I highly recommend.

Review from T B (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 25 April 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My great grandmother moved into The Grand Care Centre due to requiring end of life nursing care. She received a high level of care with the staff being very sympathetic to the family's situation and took the time to explain everything to us so that we knew what to expect, they were so respectful. My grandmother’s room is beautiful with a lovely view of the garden, it is very clean and well equipped for her needs. The food is of high quality and she soon started eating more and settling into her new environment. Everybody made her feel so welcome and genuinely cared for. The manager of the home, whilst on night duty, even changed a mattress for my grandmother to make her feel more comfortable, this action really moved me. My grandmother is still with us three months later and doing incredibly well. My family and I will be eternally great full to everybody at The Grand Care Centre.

My relative has been in The Grand Care Centre for 6 years where she is very happy. She has thrived in her social life, and activities and eats enjoyable food. She loves her spacious room and most of all the friendly and caring staff who make her feel safe and secure. The medical care she receives is excellent and I am kept fully informed of any concerns or treatments. There are also excellent facilities for visitors to dine with the residents and the whole atmosphere is warm, light and airy, with comfortable lounges and an attractive garden, where residents are encouraged to participate in the gardening if they want to. I would highly recommend The Grand Care Centre to anyone for its outstanding care, management, facilities and caring staff.

My 91-year old Dad was given excellent care. He arrived in poor health and this deteriorated quickly, simply because he felt comfortable, saw family and relaxed and so his body gave out. However, the staff kept him comfortable and at all times considered his dignity and his right to eat or not eat, which was exactly what we as a family had requested. I can heartily recommend this care home.

My family and I will be forever grateful to your moist wonderful and caring staff on 3rd floor. The compassion and care shown to my uncle, my elderly parents and myself has been exceptional. The whole team are a credit to the health and caring profession. The care and compassion shown is so natural I am an NHS employee and know how difficult your job can be, but nothing was ever a bother. Special thanks.

Tracy
Tracy Job Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2020

I am a qualified nurse and trained at the University of Central Lancashire, qualifying in 1999. Totalling 30 years of care/nursing experience, my passion lies with care homes, and I have extensive management experience as a home manager, including troubleshooting, care home turnaround and Regional management. These areas have given me a wealth of knowledge, and decided to come back into the daily running of the care home after being out and about, travelling many miles. I am proud to be part of the team here at The Grand and to work for New Care, working towards its vision. My team and I are dedicated to making each day different and special for residents.

The care we deliver is person-centred, ensuring that individual needs and requirements are met. It is important to us that residents retain as much independence as possible with support to continue pursuing the interests and hobbies they have always enjoyed.

Personal hobbies and interests include family, Horse riding and my three West Highland Terriers, Dave, Dottie & Alfie, A family unit themselves – you may see them in the home occasionally.

I have worked at New Care for 4 years and enjoyed my time at Ruddington Manor, but transferred to The Grand for a new challenge a year ago. I enjoy my job as a Care Manager and am now ecstatic to be successful in my new role as the Deputy Manager. I am able to have autonomy in my role, which helps me thrive and feel satisfied in my role. It's ‘Grand at the Grand’ as we say, and New Care look after their staff members really well with excellent opportunities for promotions, I can vouch for that. Every day is a different day, and I love that we can make our residents' lives special. I love seeing them smile every day.

Bridget
Bridget Job Title:Wellbeing CoordinatorJoined: 2015
I have worked for New Care for over 4 years. When I first walked into The Grand, I was amazed that a care home could look like a hotel; I was lost for words. I began as a Senior Carer and then transferred to the Wellbeing Team. I was then given the opportunity to lead the Wellbeing team.

New Care is a very family-oriented and person-centred company; nothing is too much trouble to meet the residents’ needs and wishes.

I look forward to coming to work each day, and I can’t believe I get paid to do a job that I love!

Selma
Selma Job Title:Head of CareJoined: 2022

I only started working in the care sector in 2021 as a carer at the Grand, and in 2022, I was encouraged to become a Team Leader. I have to admit that it was very difficult at the beginning for me; however, with great support from our Management team and colleagues, I have learnt a lot and completed my Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care in 2023. I have been given the amazing opportunity to step up as Head of Care in 2024, and I am enjoying learning and developing within my new role. I love our wonderful team and am very proud of the care and support we provide to all our residents, families and staff. In my spare time, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, visiting interesting places and spending time with my family.

Paul
Paul Job Title:Head Chef

I lead our dedicated culinary team with over 15 years of experience as a Head Chef, specialising in the care sector. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding that food is at the heart of our residents’ well-being and dignity.

I believe dining should be a joyful, fresh, and engaging experience for everyone. As Head Chef, I oversee all aspects of our kitchen, from menu planning and meal preparation to ensuring that every dish we serve is freshly made and full of flavour.

One of my key strengths is working with my team to create meals that meet a wide range of dietary needs. Whether that means preparing diabetic-friendly options, catering for allergies, or producing modified texture meals, we always strive for nutritional balance, great taste, and appealing presentation.

I’m incredibly proud of our team. We work closely together to meet the individual dietary needs of every resident. I genuinely enjoy the challenge of creating food that not only nourishes but also brings a little joy to the table each day.

For me, mealtimes are one of the highlights of the day - a chance to connect, care, and make a difference through good food.

I joined The Grand in January 2024, bringing experience as a care home administrator from a small residential home. Since joining the team, I've made significant progress in my role and am currently studying for my Level 3 Business Administration qualification, with wonderful support from the company throughout. I'm passionate about my work and deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of The Grand Care Centre team.

Outside of work, I love travelling and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world. Before moving to England, I spent two years living in Canada. I arrived in England at 19, and in the years since, I've built both my life and career here. It truly feels like my forever home, which is why I recently began the process of obtaining my British citizenship.

I feel very lucky to be a part of The Grand team. I started my journey as a housekeeping assistant and have recently been promoted to Head Housekeeper due to the love and devotion I put into my work. I'm highly motivated and care deeply about making sure our residents have a clean, safe, warm and welcoming environment to call home.
