My mother was placed at The Grand in March 2019, myself and my brother chose the Grand as we felt the rooms, facilities, staff and overall presentation of the Grand would be the type of facilities she would choose for herself if she had the capacity. My mother is a very difficult person to manage, exacerbated by her recent diagnosis of dementia and she has presented many challenges to the care staff, however they have patiently overseen these challenges, always with a smile, and when I raised a personality clash between my mother and a carer with Yana, she dealt with it immediately. The Grand has been very patient with our family whilst we had problems gaining deputyship and we are grateful that there was no threat to our mothers care during this time. I would highly recommend the Grand.

The standard of care is excellent throughout. The staff are friendly and caring towards the residents and there are lots of planned activities. They respond positively to suggestions made by the residents and their families. The accommodation is of very high quality.

I found the staff and management to be very considerate and caring. They tried their best to make you feel your opinion and wishes matters.
They brought in singers and entertainers regularly to try and make the residents enjoy the music and remember the lost times. Visits to the garden centre and shops were arranged accompanied by carers. Staff seemed very caring and helpful with residents who had dementia and injuries and couldn't feed themselves were assisted at mealtimes. Always a nurse available to issue drugs and medicine at appropriate times.

Night staff made frequent visits to check the health of the sick.

High quality care home. The place is so well designed and understated and the cleanliness is great. It feels much more like a hotel than a care home! I was there visiting my Mum and stayed for about 2 1/2 hours and at least 7 people (staff) came in, all speaking to my Mum. They were all very polite to me. It has a very good vibe to it. We are pleased our Mum is there!

My sister joined the family at The Grand, West Bridgford in September 2018. I had no concerns placing her there as everyone was so helpful and sympathetic to my sister's needs and also my needs. I am on first name terms with most of the staff and any questions I have they will always help me with. I can only say that the care my sister gets is second to none. She is happy there and has settled very well.

Looking for somewhere to convalesce post surgery. The Grand was recommended to me by friends who had visited. The Grand in a professional capacity regularly. After visiting myself I booked in for two weeks. I found the staff kind and caring. It was a good environment in which to rest and recover and if were to require further surgery I would return again.

This month has been a happy time for my husband as he now seems comfortable with the high standards of care and the surroundings, catering and most importantly the therapy sessions have achieved great results and he is enjoying and participating on a daily basis. He suffers from dementia, heart problems, arthritis, diabetes, incontinence of bowel and urine.

The Grand are coping well with all this and perhaps, more importantly, welcoming him into the company.

My Grandmother made her home The Grand over the last few years, as a highly independent woman it was not easy for her in the first instance to make the switch to living as part of a community. However, The Grand small scale, personal and respectful approach to its residents, staff and wider family - made my grandmother feel more like she was part of a caring village than in a care home.

As her care needs increased through advancing dementia the staff and other residents at The Grand were simply wonderful, they were kind, professional, loving ensuring her dignity and safety at all times. A remarkable place, and people for a remarkable woman. Thank you all.

Thank you to everyone on the 2nd floor for the care and kindness shown to my mothe during her recent stay for rehabilitation following a fractured hip. The food was varied and beautifully prepared and presented. The room was clean and as good as any hotel accommodation. Since it was over the Christmas and New Year period it could have been a sad and lonely time for my father, but for a minimal charge, he and I were able to join Mum for lunch on Christmas Day. Thank you to all the staff, you made a difficult time so much easier for us all.
Both my parents have said they would actually consider the care home if needs changed as they become older (only 90 and 93 now!)

Thank you all on the 2nd floor. You were brilliant. Happy New Year to you all.

The facilities are good and the care is good but there is not enough staff and not enough staffing levels. There are too many falls, inadequate risk assessments and moderate seating for some residents. Some senior staff should take greater notice when concerns are raised.

My mum stayed in the short stay unit recently. The facilities and care she received was exemplary.
Beautifully decorated throughout with spacious rooms made her feel as if she was in a hotel not a care home. All the staff we met were happy and enthusiastic.

The menu offered a wide choice of food options and was well presented, well cooked lovingly by the chef, the only downside is the poor design layout of the bathrooms.

The review refers to a period when my father was receiving respite care for the first time, so a difficult and worrying time for the family. A good introduction to the centre included an orientation visit for myself and my father. This gave us an idea of the excellent catering facilities. My father particularly enjoyed the glass of wine. When a resident, my father received good care given by willing friendly staff. I noted their effective communication skills when talking to him. My father always looked well cared for when I or other family members visited. Beautiful room with excellent activities inside and outside the building.

From the moment you walk through the doors at The Grand, you can't fail to be impressed. Apart from the lovely décor, all staff are welcoming and friendly. The care my mother received was excellent. Her dignity was always maintained and kindness always shown. My mother was not always able to partake in the numerous activities/entertainment organised by the activity staff but there are lots to keep residents occupied, which is wonderful.

I have no hesitation in recommending The Grand.

My mum was a resident in The Grand for just over 2.5 years as her vascular dementia worsened. Her care, comfort, safety and dignity was foremost in the minds of all the staff working there. At each stage they adapted to her increasing need for support, helping her stay as mobile as possible. They are the loveliest of people and are so genuine in their care for the residents.

When my mum's health deteriorated they were happy and in fact, wanted her to remain in The Grand and not go into hospital. Their care for her was as if she were their own relative. They sat with her, and with me, offered reassurance, tea and hugs whenever needed and their clear love for my mum was very touching to see. They are a credit to their profession and I cannot thank them enough for making my mum's passing as comfortable and gentle as was possible.

A first class care home. Incredibly clean, lots of space. Rooms are all en-suite and well kept. The carers, nurses and all the staff are very cheerful, polite and do genuinely care about the residents. The dining area is fantastically laid out and the food is of a high standard and there's plenty of it. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they have always been very helpful to me too with any questions I've had. The garden is beautiful and very well used, a beautiful setting for the residents and their families to use when the weather permits such as now. I only have good things to say about The Grand. Thank you for looking after my mum so well.

Tracy Job Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2020

I am a qualified nurse and trained at the University of Central Lancashire, qualifying in 1999. Totalling 30 years of care/nursing experience, my passion lies with care homes, and I have extensive management experience as a home manager, including troubleshooting, care home turnaround and Regional management. These areas have given me a wealth of knowledge, and decided to come back into the daily running of the care home after being out and about, travelling many miles. I am proud to be part of the team here at The Grand and to work for New Care, working towards its vision. My team and I are dedicated to making each day different and special for residents.

The care we deliver is person-centred, ensuring that individual needs and requirements are met. It is important to us that residents retain as much independence as possible with support to continue pursuing the interests and hobbies they have always enjoyed.

Personal hobbies and interests include family, Horse riding and my three West Highland Terriers, Dave, Dottie & Alfie, A family unit themselves – you may see them in the home occasionally.

I have worked at New Care for 4 years and enjoyed my time at Ruddington Manor, but transferred to The Grand for a new challenge a year ago. I enjoy my job as a Care Manager and am now ecstatic to be successful in my new role as the Deputy Manager. I am able to have autonomy in my role, which helps me thrive and feel satisfied in my role. It's ‘Grand at the Grand’ as we say, and New Care look after their staff members really well with excellent opportunities for promotions, I can vouch for that. Every day is a different day, and I love that we can make our residents' lives special. I love seeing them smile every day.

I have worked for New Care for over 4 years. When I first walked into The Grand, I was amazed that a care home could look like a hotel; I was lost for words. I began as a Senior Carer and then transferred to the Wellbeing Team. I was then given the opportunity to lead the Wellbeing team.

New Care is a very family-oriented and person-centred company; nothing is too much trouble to meet the residents’ needs and wishes.

I look forward to coming to work each day, and I can’t believe I get paid to do a job that I love!

Selma Job Title:Head of CareJoined: 2022

I only started working in the care sector in 2021 as a carer at the Grand, and in 2022, I was encouraged to become a Team Leader. I have to admit that it was very difficult at the beginning for me; however, with great support from our Management team and colleagues, I have learnt a lot and completed my Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care in 2023. I have been given the amazing opportunity to step up as Head of Care in 2024, and I am enjoying learning and developing within my new role. I love our wonderful team and am very proud of the care and support we provide to all our residents, families and staff. In my spare time, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, visiting interesting places and spending time with my family.

Paul
Paul Job Title:Head Chef

I lead our dedicated culinary team with over 15 years of experience as a Head Chef, specialising in the care sector. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding that food is at the heart of our residents’ well-being and dignity.

I believe dining should be a joyful, fresh, and engaging experience for everyone. As Head Chef, I oversee all aspects of our kitchen, from menu planning and meal preparation to ensuring that every dish we serve is freshly made and full of flavour.

One of my key strengths is working with my team to create meals that meet a wide range of dietary needs. Whether that means preparing diabetic-friendly options, catering for allergies, or producing modified texture meals, we always strive for nutritional balance, great taste, and appealing presentation.

I’m incredibly proud of our team. We work closely together to meet the individual dietary needs of every resident. I genuinely enjoy the challenge of creating food that not only nourishes but also brings a little joy to the table each day.

For me, mealtimes are one of the highlights of the day - a chance to connect, care, and make a difference through good food.

I joined The Grand in January 2024, bringing experience as a care home administrator from a small residential home. Since joining the team, I've made significant progress in my role and am currently studying for my Level 3 Business Administration qualification, with wonderful support from the company throughout. I'm passionate about my work and deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of The Grand Care Centre team.

Outside of work, I love travelling and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world. Before moving to England, I spent two years living in Canada. I arrived in England at 19, and in the years since, I've built both my life and career here. It truly feels like my forever home, which is why I recently began the process of obtaining my British citizenship.
