After making the decision to move mum to The Grand Care Centre, we received ongoing support from the time we visited through to the day of the move.
Move day could have been challenging for mum and potentially disorientating but from the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from reception and encouraged to take our time to let mum adjust.
There is no cure for dementia but the positive change we have seen since mum has been at The Grand is remarkable. This transformation is undoubtedly a testament to the care and attention she receives from staff across the whole of the care home, as well as the open, clean and welcoming physical environment. We've seen glimpses of mum we thought we had lost forever.

The care has been personalised to ensure mum can feel at ease and safe. She looks healthier and her demeanor has improved more than we could ever have hoped for. Seeing mum happy and relaxed allows us to feel at ease, knowing she is in safe and caring hands.

Firstly there are some very caring staff there but also staff who are not so caring. The main problem is lack of staff which leads to problems. 1) Not answering the alarm bell swiftly. 2) My father had 2 showers in 10 months, he's now showered daily at new care home. 3) We had to get the physio to push for Dad to use a commode, staff left him to wee in a pad, he was not incontinent - he now uses a bottle and normal toilet.

I can't speak highly enough of The Grand. The standard of care, the activities, the food and the facilities are excellent. Most of all it was the genuine sense of being welcome and cared for as part of a family which my mum and I valued the most.

My father stayed 2 weeks for respite. I cannot praise the helpfulness and professionalness of the staff and managers both to my father and to us when we visit. The bedroom and bathroom were clean, modern and comfortable. A choice of good meals and snacks were available and there were regular activities going on throughout his stay. The staff were understanding of my father's dementia, and able to patiently reassure him of where he was, and any other concerns he had. They also looked after his medicine and hygiene care very well. Highly recommended from initial planning, through to end of stay. And the building and floors were very secure too.

My mum was admitted back in 2017 and is still there to the present day.
As I live in London I was worried about Mum's care, I didn’t have to.
Since day one Mum's care and well-being have been the homes priority.
All the staff are so lovely and kind and see to mums every need.
I have a video call with Mum every Friday without fail and she is always so happy.
I couldn’t wish for a better place for Mum to be than here.

Also the activities and she looks forward to the days out and lifts her spirits.

This care home and all its staff have a very special place in my heart. My father was a resident on the dementia floor for the past 8 years. Everyone who looked after dad and I dealt with were outstanding. The level of care was excellent and the love and thoughtfulness in his last days was lovely. This is a special place.

Our mother was admitted to The Grand Care Centre after a stay in hospital following a fall. We have been extremely pleased with her care. All members of staff who have been involved with her have been excellent, showing kindness and professionalism. They reacted promptly to her medical needs and we were always consulted if a change was necessary. Mum was treated with dignity and compassion at the end of her life.

My father was a resident at The Grand Care Centre after being discharged from hospital. He was made to feel welcome immediately. The team made him feel comfortable and encouraged him to take part in activities which he enjoyed.
The care overall, for the few months that he was in there was outstanding.
The team communicated to me what they were doing for him and was transparent with any concerns.
They were responsive in making sure he attended all hospital appointments and was on the ball with medicine and care need changes.

I appreciate everything they did for him and recommend The Grand as an amazing care facility.

The management and staff went out of their way to ensure Mum had a fabulous Christmas, spending the day with her husband for the first Christmas in three years due to the lockdown in previous years. Both parents are very elderly and immobile, they don't see each other very often so for them it was such a huge excitement, they both enjoyed the day and it went smoothly thanks to all the staff and management. Well done and thank you.

Just want to say thank you for looking after our mum so well. Very much appreciated. The time and encouragement with eating. The patience of many fresh varieties of choices is offered. The chat, advice, company and care. The home is clean, safe, hygienic and modern, appealing in style, mixing a bit of nostalgic glamour too. I really like that! Printed out individual planners for daily structure and fun. Good staff, happy residents, family and visitors. Nice to see smiles and hear joy. Very welcoming and comforting.

Tracy Job Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2020

I am a qualified nurse and trained at the University of Central Lancashire, qualifying in 1999. Totalling 30 years of care/nursing experience, my passion lies with care homes, and I have extensive management experience as a home manager, including troubleshooting, care home turnaround and Regional management. These areas have given me a wealth of knowledge, and decided to come back into the daily running of the care home after being out and about, travelling many miles. I am proud to be part of the team here at The Grand and to work for New Care, working towards its vision. My team and I are dedicated to making each day different and special for residents.

The care we deliver is person-centred, ensuring that individual needs and requirements are met. It is important to us that residents retain as much independence as possible with support to continue pursuing the interests and hobbies they have always enjoyed.

Personal hobbies and interests include family, Horse riding and my three West Highland Terriers, Dave, Dottie & Alfie, A family unit themselves – you may see them in the home occasionally.

Rebecca
Rebecca Job Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2018

I have worked at New Care for 4 years and enjoyed my time at Ruddington Manor, but transferred to The Grand for a new challenge a year ago. I enjoy my job as a Care Manager and am now ecstatic to be successful in my new role as the Deputy Manager. I am able to have autonomy in my role, which helps me thrive and feel satisfied in my role. It's ‘Grand at the Grand’ as we say, and New Care look after their staff members really well with excellent opportunities for promotions, I can vouch for that. Every day is a different day, and I love that we can make our residents' lives special. I love seeing them smile every day.

Bridget
Bridget Job Title:Wellbeing CoordinatorJoined: 2015
I have worked for New Care for over 4 years. When I first walked into The Grand, I was amazed that a care home could look like a hotel; I was lost for words. I began as a Senior Carer and then transferred to the Wellbeing Team. I was then given the opportunity to lead the Wellbeing team.

New Care is a very family-oriented and person-centred company; nothing is too much trouble to meet the residents’ needs and wishes.

I look forward to coming to work each day, and I can’t believe I get paid to do a job that I love!

Selma
Selma Job Title:Head of CareJoined: 2022

I only started working in the care sector in 2021 as a carer at the Grand, and in 2022, I was encouraged to become a Team Leader. I have to admit that it was very difficult at the beginning for me; however, with great support from our Management team and colleagues, I have learnt a lot and completed my Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care in 2023. I have been given the amazing opportunity to step up as Head of Care in 2024, and I am enjoying learning and developing within my new role. I love our wonderful team and am very proud of the care and support we provide to all our residents, families and staff. In my spare time, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, visiting interesting places and spending time with my family.

Paul
Paul Job Title:Head Chef

I lead our dedicated culinary team with over 15 years of experience as a Head Chef, specialising in the care sector. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding that food is at the heart of our residents’ well-being and dignity.

I believe dining should be a joyful, fresh, and engaging experience for everyone. As Head Chef, I oversee all aspects of our kitchen, from menu planning and meal preparation to ensuring that every dish we serve is freshly made and full of flavour.

One of my key strengths is working with my team to create meals that meet a wide range of dietary needs. Whether that means preparing diabetic-friendly options, catering for allergies, or producing modified texture meals, we always strive for nutritional balance, great taste, and appealing presentation.

I’m incredibly proud of our team. We work closely together to meet the individual dietary needs of every resident. I genuinely enjoy the challenge of creating food that not only nourishes but also brings a little joy to the table each day.

For me, mealtimes are one of the highlights of the day - a chance to connect, care, and make a difference through good food.

I joined The Grand in January 2024, bringing experience as a care home administrator from a small residential home. Since joining the team, I've made significant progress in my role and am currently studying for my Level 3 Business Administration qualification, with wonderful support from the company throughout. I'm passionate about my work and deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of The Grand Care Centre team.

Outside of work, I love travelling and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world. Before moving to England, I spent two years living in Canada. I arrived in England at 19, and in the years since, I've built both my life and career here. It truly feels like my forever home, which is why I recently began the process of obtaining my British citizenship.

For me, dining is not just about food; it is about creating moments of comfort, connection, and joy for our residents. I am dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those who call our care home home. Together with my devoted team, I strive to make every mealtime a pleasant, meaningful, and uplifting experience.

My name is Chris, and I’m the Maintenance Manager at The Grand. I joined the team in July after spending 16 years in my previous role, and I’m really glad I made the move - I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here.

I’ve been working in maintenance for the past four years, and I take great pride in helping both residents and staff by resolving issues and repairing faults quickly and effectively. I’m an approachable and friendly member of the team, always willing to lend a hand and ensure everything runs smoothly around The Grand.

I feel very lucky to be a part of The Grand team. I started my journey as a housekeeping assistant and have recently been promoted to Head Housekeeper due to the love and devotion I put into my work. I take great pride in everything I do within the home, often coming in early so I can always give that little bit extra.

I'm highly motivated and care deeply about making sure our residents have a clean, safe, warm and welcoming environment to call home.

Nothing is too much trouble; with a caring and hardworking housekeeping team, we work together to ensure our home is the best it can be.
