I have worked at Bradshaw Manor care home for the last 3 and a half years. I moved to Rhyl 4 years ago with my partner and son. I have worked in care for over 30 years.
I knew when I was at school that care was the profession for me. I've always looked after my nan and parents. I wanted to make a difference.
When I started to work at Bradshaw Manor, I worked as a carer. I then transferred to the activities team, which I really enjoy. I am passionate about my career in care, and I really enjoy the activities, seeing a smile on the residents' faces, enjoying a chat and taking them out on trips. I’ve always enjoyed dementia care; this area has always been very close to my heart. Listening to individuals' stories and seeing their strengths and achievements.
The highlight of my career was winning a gold in the Lovett Care Awards in 2024 for promoting fulfilled lives. This was not just for me but for the whole team at Bradshaw Manor. ‘Care is a passion, not a job’
‘Remember, we work in residents' homes, not that they live in our workplace’
I spend my time at home with my partner, David. We have an allotment and enjoy growing our own vegetables. I had two children and four grandchildren. So I enjoy spending time with them. I support Aston Villa.
