My mother has only been in Hafan y Waun for just over a week, but we, as a family, have seen a vast improvement in her. She is walking everywhere (when at home she would sit in her chair and sleep most of the day). She is eating better as she says the food is lovely. She enjoys all the various activities
they have during the day, especially the service on a Sunday. She also enjoyed the bath she had (she hasn't been able to have a bath for years). She says all the carer's are really nice to her and help her with all her needs. We are so grateful that we found Hafan y Waun. Thank you very much for all your hard work. I myself have worked at other care homes and I would say that Hafan y Waun is the best care home I have ever seen.

Personal cleanliness could be better.
Clothing could be cleaner - changed more often and bibs issued at mealtimes more frequently.
Food quality, especially meat, very poor at times.
Food choice limited and difficult to manage due to cutlery handling issues. More one to one help needed.
Clothing
labelling needs improving.
Personal items eg hairdryer and photo album go missing.

Hafan-y-Waun gives my father the care and support that enables him to be happy and retain his integrity and self-esteem. We appreciate that he is treated in a person-centred manner and his wellbeing is important in decisions made.

This gives us a peace of mind that he is safe and well cared for.

(The

local authority are relieving the financial position and therefore we have no knowledge of the costs and to this end I'm unable to comment on the value for money option below).

My mum is very settled and seems a lot less anxious. As a family, we are very happy with her care. We also feel that she is safe which makes us less anxious. Over Christmas there were a variety of activities which helped as this was her first Christmas away from her home.

My dad has been living at Hafan y Waun for about 3 months now since his dementia made living at home too difficult. The care he has received has been great - all staff are kind, give their time and expertise and treat all residents with dignity and patience.
We couldn't be happier with the care he
has received.

My Mother has recently moved to Hafan Y Waun following over 3 months in hospital. She was not keen to move and it has been a difficult time for the family to fully coming to terms with Mum having dementia. The support and help from all the staff to our Mum and ourselves has been amazing during a difficult
family time.
Mum is now being fully cared for in a happy, pleasant environment.
The accommodation is great, both the bedrooms and communal areas with plenty of things going on to look after the residents.

I was very concerned about my relative entering Hafan Y Waun - I thought they would hate it! The staff were there to make everyone feel welcome and at home. Tea and coffee were offered to us immediately while the staff did their work, whether that be settling the new resident into their bedroom, giving
a friendly chat about the location of the dining room and telling us about Dave (the cat). The resident was told that it was now their bedroom and they could decorate it the way they wished. Doubted that, but shocked last week when on entering the bedroom, three personal photographs were hanging on the wall. This meant a great deal to the new resident. Yesterday, I had been promised that the resident would be taken home for a look around their house. Firstly, I had to wait for the hairdo to be completed, then, another wait, as the resident wanted to have her nails done first! Took her home and was delighted to know that she had to get back to the home in time for 5pm tea. She is so happy there.

My mother receives excellent care overall. The majority of staff show a deep understanding of the condition and illness. She is treated fairly and as an individual.
Hafan y Waun has an excellent timetable of activities and she is encouraged to take part.

Care and support/treated with dignity/staff is very much dependent on staff on duty. There are some excellent, understanding and caring staff but there are some that maybe it is not their vocation.
The room my mother was allocated had a hole in the wall, which we were told about, it was filled in a
few months later but my mother was told that she would need to move out of the room in order to plaster and finish the work. We feel that this option would be an upheaval and there must be an easier option. The fact that the wall is not perfectly rendered upsets our mother when she has visitors and we have taken to hiding the 'hole'.
When she is well, my mother enjoys the range of activities and joins in when she is able, the staff involved have an excellent rapport and make everyone feel included.
Not quite sure what this comes under but the quality and sizing of the bedding is poor.
My mother would probably appreciate a slice of fresh bread and butter for afternoon tea.

Client has been at Hafan y Waun for over 2 years and during that whole time we have noticed that staff never help to clean/wipe their face after meals. This has been pointed out to staff many times. A number of clients at Hafan y Waun are local to us and visitors to these clients have commented to us
that their face and hands are not cleaned after meals. Being a professional mechanic this meant he used his hands continuously. He now finds it frustrating with nothing to do all day. He was given stickle bricks but they have now disappeared. Clothes and slippers disappear regularly.

Happy with the care my mother is receiving. All staff are very friendly and helpful.
Nursing staff are particularly friendly and there is always a welcome and a friendly/homely atmosphere. They are always happy to talk.
It was very emotional when my mother was admitted - a welcome package for relatives
would be useful.

I am confident that my mother is well cared for and in safe hands at Hafan y Waun. The staff make great efforts to understand her physical and emotional needs.

The home seems to have good working relationships and medical services.

I feel that most of the carers have a genuine love and concern
