My mother has settled into the home, it's all new to her and her family as she previously lived in sheltered accommodation, but due to a fall and a long stay at hospital she was not safe to be on her own anymore. It's taken a while for her to adjust but she has now settled in with the routine of the
nursing home. The staff are friendly and helpful and treat her with respect. The food is cooked on site and is always nice. Any problems have been reported to the management and dealt with promptly. I would recommend this home to families with elderly relatives.
Reply from Gemma Howells, Head of Marketing at St Mark's Court Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share this thoughtful review. We are delighted to hear that your mother has settled into life at St Mark's. Moving from sheltered accommodation into a nursing environment can be a big change, and we're pleased that with time, support and routine, she has begun to feel comfortable and at ease.
It's wonderful to hear your kind words about our team. We take great pride in providing friendly, respectful and person-centred care, and feedback like yours means a great deal to the staff who support your mother every day.
Thank you again for your recommendation , it truly means a lot.

My father has been in St Marks for three months and despite a few settling in issues I am delighted with the care he receives. He enjoys all his food and has gained weight. He is well looked after at St Marks. He especially enjoys the music man's visits. The staff are always polite and helpful. Thank
you everyone for taking care of him.

Dad moved into St Mark’s Court early Jan 2020, and we were concerned that we had made the ‘right choice’ for him - we need not have worried in the least as Dad has been extremely happy there. We have been extremely happy with everything offered to Dad including care, support, friendship and a great
sense of community so often lacking everywhere these days! Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have not been able to see as much of Dad as we’d have liked, but fully applaud how effectively the manager and staff have struck the correct balance between keeping our loved ones safe but also keeping us in touch with them! Summer 2020 saw regular ‘garden visits’ managed and the weather was kind too! Staff always supported voice or video call for us families to keep in touch with loved ones. Sorry to say, we lost Dad in Jan 2021, but the manager and staff did all possible to support Dad and us through this sad time, and Dad passed peacefully. Fully endorse this as a great care home!

What a fantastic place. The staff really care and go out of their way to make the residents comfortable and go the extra mile in keeping relatives informed. I really can’t thank the staff and the manager enough. We all go on a guilt trip when our loved ones can’t look after themselves and their needs
are too complex to be looked after by the family. I spent some time in assessing care homes before making the decision to go with St Mark's Court and I have to say it was one of my best decisions.
From the bottom of my heart thank you for all the care and support you provided to my mum.
Reply from Dan Ward, Manager at St Mark's Court Care HomeThank you for your very kind words. Positive feedback like this is really uplifting for our staff. It was a pleasure looking after your mother, and we send our best wishes to your family.

My mum came to St Mark's in November 2019 and the standard of care she receives is amazing. There is a relaxed family feeling there and the staff are willing at all times to help. It can be upsetting when loved ones are there but they do and we do adjust and it helps knowing how kind everyone who works
there is so dedicated to their jobs. When I visit now it is more like a family gathering as we get to know the staff by their names. This care home is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone needing help. Reach out, they will help you.

I am very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff who are very obliging to assist. We frequently ask for the gentleman we visit to be put in a wheelchair so he can be wheeled into either the downstairs or upstairs lounges for private conversations. Also, the staff are always helpful in putting his
hearing aid right to we can have a conversation as he fiddles with it in such a way that it is non-operative. Thanks all.
Reply from Daniel Ward, Home Manager at St Mark's Court Care HomeThank you for your kind comments – I’m very glad the gentleman you refer to is happy at St Mark’s and it’s a pleasure to be part of providing his care.

I am writing a well-deserved review as I feel I can't praise St Mark's enough. They were all kind, loving and caring for my Dad. They catered for all of my Dad's needs and gave him such a wonderful life. He was encouraged to join in with the many activities available. They treated me as one of the family
and made me feel so welcome. I will miss them all dearly.

When I first arrived at the care home I felt weakened after an operation and also I felt sorry for myself. The atmosphere in the home soon changed my view.
Everyone from the manager, the lady accountant, nurses, carers, kitchen and cleaning staff have made me feel at home here and are a joy to know.
Also, our lady entertainment officer does a wonderful job. Lately, children from an infants school visit us for talks and reading sessions.

My mother has been in this home for 15 months and me and the other members of her family haven't had any reason to complain about her care.
She is always warm, clean and well fed and is treated with respect, kindness and dignity.
The home manager is very approachable so if we did have a concern I
am sure it would be dealt with promptly.

My dad moved to St Mark's Court Care Home in Swansea in Feb 18 after diagnosis of mixed vascular dementia. He deteriorated quickly and passed away on 21st May 2018.
I would like to extend my gratitude to all of the staff who looked after him with such care and patience.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.958)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.958) out of 10 for St Mark's Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.800 for St Mark's Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.8
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.158 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mark's Court Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.658
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
