Really delighted by The Priory Nursing and Residential Home. I was provided with a very thorough guided tour of the premises prior to selection and was impressed with what I observed. The setting of the home is really fantastic and my mum was given a room with an amazing view.
The team were incredibly
welcoming and provided huge support with settling my mum in for her 2 weeks respite care.
Any special requests for mum's room were addressed immediately, and conducted with a smile. Mum loved the warm engagements she had with all the support staff and found them to be most friendly and caring.
I noted whenever visiting that hygiene was of high importance and mum's room was always kept very clean, as were all the facilities. Her medical requirements were met fully, including a visit from the local GP. Mum made a great recovery during her time at The Priory enabling her to return home at the end of her stay. Special thanks to Alex as an excellent coordinator and point of contact.
Reply from Alexandra-Rae Middleton, Admin at The Priory Nursing & Residential HomeThank you so much for your kind words Barbara, we loved having mum stay with us and we really appreciate your feedback of our home. We all hope mum has settled back into home life, please do get in touch if mum requires another respite stay.

I can only say such positive things about the Care Home. I feel I can relax knowing my husband is being so well cared for.
This care home is friendly and a very relaxed and the staff always have a very friendly approx to everyone who visits.
They keep my husband clean and comfortable and that is
so comforting not only to me, as his wife, but to his brothers
and sisters and also to his children. I feel how fortunate I have been to find this Care Home for my husband. It cannot
be easy to look after the residents but the staff do a wonderful job.
Reply from Alexandra-Rae Middleton, Admin at The Priory Nursing & Residential HomeWe are so glad you feel our staff do a wonderful job here at The Priory. All our residents are extremely important to us and we love to ensure they are all comfortable and cared for at the different stages in their care journeys. I will pass your review on to the team.

My mum has only just moved into this home, but, the nursing home has treated my mum not just as a resident, but as a person who truly matters. The level of care, kindness, and genuine compassion shown by the staff is nothing short of exceptional. They take the time to know her - her routines, her preferences,
her stories - and that human touch makes all the difference.
The staff are consistently professional, patient, and warm, and they go above and beyond to ensure my mum feels safe, respected, and comfortable every single day. Communication with family is excellent, the environment is clean and welcoming, and there is a real sense of dignity and pride in the care they provide. Knowing my mum is in such capable and caring hands gives our family complete peace of mind. I cannot thank or recommend this nursing home highly enough - they truly set the gold standand

Communication with the home is good and the staff are friendly and approachable. They listen and respond promptly to any concerns raised and the atmosphere of the home is relaxed and caring. There is a helpful weekly timetable for residents highlighting planned activities. There are also links with
the local community e.g. church and village school and regular visits from the hairdresser, nail technician, chiropodist etc.

My mother-in-law who has Alzheimer's and vascular dementia has just spent 2 weeks respite care at The Priory.
I cannot recommend highly enough,
from the extremely competent management to the wonderfully caring staff who looked after my MIL, the experience has been so reassuring and stress free. I
would not hesitate to use again.
My MIL was so well looked after, She engaged in activities and ate/drank well. (Mixed dementia-challenging!) The rooms are lovely and having stunning views.

The Priory is a warm, comfortable and welcoming home for my partner, who is living with vascular dementia. Staff are generally very warm, kind and helpful and friendly. The general atmosphere is cheerful and upbeat. Housekeeping, maintenance and kitchen staff all do a great job in keeping the house
and grounds looking good. My only concern is that perhaps there could be a bit more stimulus for residents. Activities are an hour am and pm, and are done by 2.30, leaving a very long pm/evening. A room has been newly furnished for activities so hopefully this will encourage widening the scope. If one's loved one has to be in a care establishment, then I would recommend The Priory.

My husband has been a resident of The Priory for a few weeks now but recently was taken very ill and had to go to hospital. The care and support he received on his return have been outstanding and reassuring for me and his family. Despite his severe illness, his relief at being back in the warm and
familiar surroundings was palpable and the response to the staff was heart-warming. I cannot praise them or thank them enough.
In addition, the outlook and surroundings of The Priory set as it is in the magnificent Wye Valley is also uplifting. Thank you all at The Priory for making this very difficult time a little easier.

We cannot say anything negative about The Priory care home. The staff are so helpful, caring and friendly and go the extra mile to help the residents settle in and as the wife of someone needing care that is so reassuring.
The home has a cosy, lovely warm and comforting clean smell. The food is jolly
good too, there are activities and a twice-monthly Holy Communion service provided by volunteers from the local churches. The chance to sing hymns and hear a super organist and choir mistress must not be missed.
I heartily recommend a visit to see for yourself.

Mum has now been a resident at The Priory for just over 6 months. I couldn't have asked for a better settling-in process for my Mum. I anticipated a period of adjustment but within 24 hours Mum was settled After months of worrying about how she would cope with the move, she settled in beautifully.

Every member of staff I have ever spoken to has been professional and caring. Many have gone above and beyond to accommodate Mum's needs. I feel at all levels they know my Mum and understand her.

When Mum was unwell, I was told I could visit anytime, day or night, to reassure myself. This was a great comfort. Whenever I visited - day or night - Mum's needs were being met. She was calm and cared for. Regular doctor visits were organised to ensure everything was being done. Knowing Mum is cared for in such a caring and safe environment has taken a huge amount of pressure off my shoulders and has made a big difference to our relationship. I am now a daughter and not a carer.

Mum has settled in quite well, and I think is generally happy; however, she has spoken to me regarding one or two things that have upset her.
Sometimes, she feels that on occasions she spends prolonged periods of time waiting to be taken to the toilet. She feels like she has to wait for a carer, we
understand they are busy; however, this is causing quite an upset, especially if she soils herself.
Unfortunately, she does seem to require the toilet more than usual; I understand this is because of certain tablets she takes.
She likes to spend as much time as possible in the communal room, but if left alone is unable to reach the assistant button.
These two minor points are quite important to her. But she does enjoy the entertainment that has now started.
Reply from Aimee Bevan, Administrator at The Priory Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your honest feedback. We have discussed the issues you have raised and taken on board the concern. We have taken steps to ensure that this does not continue and that your mother can access the toilet as soon as needed. Thank you for your honest feedback, The Priory team.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.392)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.392) out of 10 for The Priory Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.765 for The Priory Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (95 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.765
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.627 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Priory Nursing & Residential Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4. 10 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.877
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
