My aunty had been in this home for over 4 years and if you were to ask her she would say it’s wonderful, my opinion is every time I go to visit the staff cannot do enough for us. The home is spotless, the food is excellent, they all go above and beyond to make sure my aunty is happy. I had to give her
some bad news today and they came to make sure she was ok and will go and keep an eye on her. If she needs a hug I’m sure they would give her one, they have activity days which all the residents love. I can not find one bad thing to say about The Priory Nursing & Residential.

My lovely mother really enjoyed her last three years at The Priory. Like most folk of her generations, she was fiercely independent and did not want to go in care - the first few months were difficult for all concerned - but as an intelligent woman, she realised that the love and care given to her at
The Priory was in her very best interest. She passed away at 102-years in dignity, comfort and contentment. Thank you to The Priory team.

My dad has been here for almost 3-years. The Priory has the most amazing views and outlook, but it’s inside that is the most important. Dad has been very happy here, and the staff are amazing and kind and work so hard. It’s been such a difficult year with the Covid restrictions, but they had no Covid
related deaths and kept everyone very safe. Before the pandemic, it was good to be able to visit any time you wanted.
With his dementia, Dad can be quite a character, and they know what he’s like and make allowances for him. He enjoys the food and will often say that the meals are very good. When he’s been poorly, I have been informed and kept up-to-date on his progress. Recently, the nurses have been particularly fantastic, and I would like to thank everyone for their kindness.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.985)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.985) out of 10 for The Priory Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.771 for The Priory Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.771
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.214 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Priory Nursing & Residential Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.614
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Responsible Individual Joined: 2001

Scott started his working life as a drayman delivering beer for Whitbread out of the Gloucester depot before deciding to change career and help run the family Nursing Home, The Regency in Cheltenham, opposite Pitville Park in 2001.

When the Regency closed, Scott moved to The Priory in Llandogo, which was also owned and run by the family. Scott has been there for over 20 years and gone from Registered Manager to Responsible Individual and Managing Director of the company after the retirement of his father 2 years ago.

Unusually for a Responsible Individual, Scott enjoys being close to the business and is very hands on, working 5 days a week alongside his step brother Phil, who is the Home Manager.

Scott prides himself on having a fantastic team at The Priory and considers himself lucky to work with such fabulous people who are dedicated to the care and high standards of service at the home, especially in what has recently been a very difficult time for the care industry.
