The home is welcoming, friendly and maintains a person’s individuality. All staff groups - carers, nurses, cleaners, management and caterers showed empathy and consideration in abundance.
Exceptional care by exceptional people.
We really appreciate your time in submitting this review. We value your comments and kind words. It was a privilege to look after Mum and as you know she has a very wonderful and unique personality. Huge thank you to you both and the extended families. May her soul rest in peace.
However, in early February 24, (17 months after going into the home), she suffered an inoperable condition and was transferred to the hospital. She knew that she was dying, and started palliative care there, but all the time, she wanted to go back to Glan Yr Afon to die, because she said that she loved it there and had so many friends among the staff. She was so happy to go back, even though she passed away a couple of days later. I (and all the family) cannot speak highly enough of the home... they gave her 17 additional enjoyable months of life!
We can't thank you enough for taking the time to review us. Thanks a lot for your kind words, which we truly appreciate. Her memories haven't gone away from our minds and hearts. You both and other family members have been incredibly kind, considerate, supportive, and above all very straightforward.
Five stars would never be enough to rate the care and compassion given to my father and my family, especially in the last few weeks of his life at Glan-yr-Afon care home. Management and staff were outstanding, nothing was too much. I speak on behalf of my dad, myself and my family when I say we couldn't have got through it without this special team. The care and dignity they gave him was unbelievable and so special. I couldn't thank everyone enough.
Thanks a lot for taking your valuable time to review us. Your kind words make us more humble and committed. Dad has been so special and you all were absolutely a pleasure to associate with. Many, many thanks once again for giving us the opportunity to care for Dad.
Our mam was transferred here as she needed more care than the old home could give. She was always immaculately dressed and taken care of. The staff are so helpful and friendly. It really had a family home feeling. It was a real pleasure to visit. Always arranging family days of fun and entertainment. Amazing care home and would highly recommend to any person who needed care for a family member. Thank you for loving Mam as much as we did.
Dear A, we are so grateful for your lovely words and all your care and support in the last two and a half years. We are truly indebted to you.
Following a fall at his residential home, my dad spent four weeks in hospital. Due to him becoming bedbound he was unable to return to the home and needed a nursing home. As a family we had no hesitation in choosing Glan-yr-Afon as our mum spent the last two weeks of her life there in 2017. Sadly, Dad passed away on the 10th of October 2023, with his family by his bedside constantly for the last four days of his life. The love, care and support given to Dad, Mum and us by the Glan-yr-Afon family was amazing, loving, totally professional, compassionate and considerate, from the management team right the way across all staff, including carers, nurses, maintenance and catering team. We felt like we were part of the family that is Glan-yr-Afon, they laughed and cried with us and gave our parents a dignified passing. Their support and love in 2017 and in 2023 helped us through the darkest of times and we cannot thank or praise them enough.
Dear Caroline, thanks a lot for your kind words. We do really appreciate it enormously. It was really a privilege and honour to have Dad with us, although for a short period. In the absence of your dad and mum, we all here at Glan, hope and pray that the Lord will console you all and send His angels to watch over your families.
My aunty has received excellent care at home. All staff are caring and courteous, very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Many activities to occupy residents, including days out to local tourist spots and meals out. Well done to all.
Regards,
Ash
My wife transferred from hospital to the Glan-yr-Afon care home after several long stays in hospital where it became obvious that she was not capable of caring for herself in her own home even with a care package in place. The move was a little traumatic at first and she took a little time to settle into her new environment. The staff and management were excellent in welcoming her and trying to make her feel part of the home. Her health has improved greatly since taking up residence at the home. It is extremely encouraging to see how the staff and management work together with a hands on attitude which gives a sense of team effort and a clear commitment by all. Nothing is too much trouble for them and a welcome for visitors is always there and encouraged. A well-run and managed home to a high standard.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to review us. It is indeed very encouraging to see her improving, despite her complex medical diagnosis. We are also glad that you appreciate what we do for your lovely wife.
My dad is currently a resident of Glan-yr-Afon and has been since February 2022. As a new process for myself, I can't thank the manager enough for his help and support throughout my dad's transition from the hospital. Dad resides in a ground-floor room which provides views out over the garden. All staff I have met or become involved with shows empathy, compassion and professionalism in all aspects of their daily roles. Any member of staff is approachable and will do their utmost to help you with any issue/concern you have. As my dad has swallowing problems, all his dietary needs are met and always fresh, hot and provided in house every time. Such a happy and supportive home which provides a warm and caring environment for all who reside there. I really like the feeling of belonging to a large family unit and know I can approach any member of staff and be helped with any problem I have.
Thanks a lot for taking your valuable time to review us. Much appreciated and I am sure the staff will really love to hear that. Your help, regular visits and ongoing support are great and Dad is highly appreciative of the same. I just can't believe it is over a year since Dad joined...
Mam has been a resident at Glan-yr-Afon for four months, all the staff are very caring and considerate and always keep me up to date with how Mam is doing on a day-to-day/weekly basis. Nothing is too much trouble for them, I know Mam is safe, well looked after and all her needs are being taken into account, she is happy and I can see she loves the company of all the staff. The staff become your second family and the nursing care is second to none. I would highly recommend Glan-yr-Afon.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to review us. We really appreciate it. Thanks a lot for your ongoing support. I hope Mum will continue to remain well. It is very interesting to watch her singing whether it is a 1:1 session or a group activity.
High nursing care standards throughout my stay. A sympathetic ear if needed. General advice is always on offer.
Thank you. We are so glad that you are back home on your feet. Feel so proud that we have been instrumental in your journey to recovery. In fact, you did almost everything... well done.
Whilst we have had some teething problems, the manager and the staff always work with us to overcome these. The manager always strives to do what is right for the residents and you can see that he genuinely cares about all of them. The home is lovely and Mam is clearly receiving very good care. The food at the home is exceptional, very good quality and always presented nicely for the residents. Overall, my sister and I feel that Mam really is in safe hands and for that we will be eternally grateful.
Thanks for taking the time to review us. Your review is highly appreciated. I am so glad that Mum is doing really well. She is more communicative and alert now compared to admission. Thanks a lot for your continued support and daily visits. We look forward to working with you more closely.
My mother has been a resident here for 5 months, in that time I have found the staff and manager very caring and kind, what was a very difficult time having to go into residential care was made so much easier for my mother and myself. I am so glad she was able to get a place here, nothing is too much trouble and my mother's needs are looked after very well.
Dear Sara, thanks a lot for taking the time to review us. I am aware of the difficulties that you all went through when taking that difficult decision for Mum. We are glad that you all took the right decision and Mum is definitely happier. Thanks for your continued support and feedback.
We have been involved in all aspects of their care needs, especially my father, who has been included in social activities which have stimulated his mind, which is essential as he has Parkinson's. Many thanks to the activity nurses who work tirelessly with the residents to ensure their interests are taken into account.
The nurses and care workers are very approachable and helpful, as are the manager and office staff who do all they can to offer us, as a family, ongoing support.
The setting is very welcoming, clean and in good order.
Family members are encouraged to visit loved ones and are encouraged to attend fundraising activities and coffee and cake events and I look forward to the Christmas activities at Glan-Yr-Afon.
Dear Sue, we really appreciate your review. We will continue to do our best to make sure that your dad and mum are safe and comfortable here at Glan.
What can we say, on behalf of our family member, they are so well looked after in every way and we cannot thank you enough for being there, not just for her but for the family as well.
It was a difficult decision for Mum and our family as Mum has always tried to be so independent in caring for herself, but the time had come when she needed full-time professional nursing care.
From day one on going to Glan-yr-Afon, we all knew we had made the right decision in choosing this place.
Everyone has made Mum feel so welcome and they go above and beyond to make sure all her needs are met.
From catering for her dairy allergy to arranging her medical care very quickly.
The manager and all the staff keep us informed of any updates at all times.
It really is a lovely place and there are always lots of activities going on which Mum can choose whether to participate or just have a quiet day in her room should she feel like.
I would not hesitate in recommending this care home to anyone needing care.
Thank you all so much for all the love and care you have shown to Mum and our family.
My family and I would like to thank the manager and staff for caring for our mother. When she arrived she was really unwell, the manager always had time to fit us in for visiting and feeding and within weeks our mother was up in the lounge with other residents eating and feeding herself, all through the love and care she received. We can't fault the home thank you so much.
Thank you for the feedback review, very much appreciated.
I cannot fault the care and accommodation of the manager and staff of Glan-yr-Afon even with the Covid restrictions. We were able to attend for feeding and kept up to date with my mother's welfare. All the staff were kind, caring, encouraging and very patient with my mother and all my worries and concerns were put to rest. I am very great full to Glan-yr-Afon and would highly recommend them to everyone.
The staff keep the residents amused with quizzes and bingo and get them all involved with different activities.
So thank you to all the staff and management for all your hard work and for looking after my mum so well.
We would like to thank the manager and all the staff at Glan-Yr-Afon for all the love and care that was given to my aunty. We could not have asked more for her from everyone at the home. They went above and beyond for us and respected my aunt's wishes. She was loved, cared and always looked clean and beautiful, which was very important to her in her last days. We were well informed of everything that was going on in the home. The whole experience from day one has been a pleasant one. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a new home.
No words can express how great I feel about the care and attention Mum received at Glan-yr-Afon. It has been hard due to the Covid restrictions, but the manager and his team always did beyond and above to make sure that we were fully involved and informed. Very approachable, accommodating, caring, friendly place. Mum had the best care during her 4 months stay at Glan-yr-Afon. I would recommend this home for anyone looking to place your mum or dad.
