When my uncle entered Leven Beach Care Home in June 2022 I was assured they would look after him for the rest of his life and that is exactly what the staff did. In spite of his increasing dementia, he enjoyed the food, chats with staff and entertainment in the first five months. When he fell and broke
his hip at the end of November and had to go to the hospital, the manager immediately told me that they would have him back after the op and six days later he returned to the home. He received excellent nursing care for the next difficult four weeks until he slipped away aged 95. I live 200 miles away and could only visit every 2 weeks but never had any concerns about his care. I found later that when he died the staff had laid him out, dressed him in his own clothes and tucked his favourite toy cat in beside him for that final journey to the undertakers. I could not have asked for anything better. My heartfelt thanks go to all the staff at Leven Beach.
Reply from Karen Radford, Manager at Leven Beach Care HomeThank you for your kind review. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to look after your uncle and we all miss his chats here especially when he was reminiscing about his dancing days.

Leven Beach Care Home has been very kind and thoughtful over the last few weeks as my mother-in-law has been at her frailest time. The staff are very friendly and help in every possible way that they can. We cannot fault the care that she has received since she first went into the home almost four years
ago. Very quick to pick up and act on any medical needs that occurred.

Whilst it saddens me to leave a poor review, given the hard work of the staff at Leven Beach, the disrespect and deceit shown by the management team to myself and my dad cannot go unchecked.
After a series of events, my dad was sent to hospital for psychiatric evaluation. It was explained to me that
Leven Beach would keep dad’s room for a reasonable period depending on the outcome of the assessment. After 6 weeks I discovered that Leven Beach had stated on the day of transfer that there were no circumstances in which my dad would be accepted back.
We have received no apology.
In addition to the dishonesty and disrespect, my dad’s room had a very strong odour (made me boak even with a mask on!) and the floor was always sticky. Despite several reports this was never rectified.
Reply from Lee Andre, Marketing and Communications Lead at Leven Beach Care HomeWe would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are focused on ensuring everyone at Leven Beach receives the highest standards of personalised, quality care and support, and so we apologise that you have had cause to submit a complaint. We are currently reviewing the issues raised with the management team, and we would like to invite you to discuss your concerns further with our Area Manager.

My experience of Leven Beach Care Home is a mostly happy one, the staff are very helpful and friendly. My partner has been in their care for nearly 2 and a half years. She is happy and clean so I'm happy about that. I must say they are very strict and safe with the pandemic scare.

I can't begin to say enough good things about Leven Beach Care Home. The way they looked after Dad for the two years he was with them was exceptional. It felt like he (and indeed we) became part of their extended family. Nothing was ever too much bother or hassle. Any questions or requests we had were
responded to willingly and quickly. We always knew that Dad was in great hands with people who knew how to, and showed a real desire, to do a friendly and professional job.

I find the care home caring and friendly to my wife, guests and visitors. Its location also provides for outdoor activity which both myself and my wife enjoy.
Whilst I have no issue with the care home, I do feel that my wife has been treated like a prisoner over the past year to 18 months, owing to
Government controls.

My dad has been in Leven Beach Care Home since August 2020. He arrived very poorly, underweight and with minimal mobility.
His health has improved, weight has increased and mobility vastly improved. The various activities brighten his week and he hasn't a bad word o say about the staff. He is happy
and settled and I#m happy to see him so.

I find the staff and management in the home good and find no reason to give a review on them. My only concern is the food and meal options. I have already asked to have my friend's dietary needs looked into as this seems to be the only thing that concerns me up until now. I am still getting bad reviews
about the meal plans. I understand it must be challenging to please all residents but plain food would be the answer in my opinion. Apart from this happy with all other aspects.
Reply from Ruth Kinnear, Manager at Leven Beach Care HomeThank you Grace for your comments. We are saddened to hear the food is not meeting your expectations. Can we take this opportunity however to reassure you we are meeting with your friend regularly and trying our best to provide alternatives from our already extensive menu. All the staff at Leven Beach Care Home have been extremely supportive and caring during the difficult time of my parents having to go into a home at the worst time in history due to COVID-19. They treated my parents and their family with respect. Never slow to answer our questions and help us. The activities
coordinator is worth her weight in gold and kept us up to date with plenty of photos and videos that kept me sane.

Once the decision had been taken for Mum to go into care, the one place we wanted her to go was to Leven Beach. My father spent the last 4 and a half years of his life there and staff became our extended family. We could not fault the home or staff on any level and Mum is extremely happy where she is.
She has very little company at home and through her jigsaws and DVD's were all that she needed until she went to Leven Beach and discovered lots of people to talk to, sing with and take part in so many activities, not to mention the wonderful meal selections! We will be eternally grateful to the staff for the amazing work that they do for all the residents at Leven Beach.

Mum became a resident in the home during the pandemic at a time when she was becoming increasingly more depressed and lonely in her own home. The change in her is wonderful! She has company and lots to keep her busy. As she is becoming less independent, she is well cared for by lovely and caring staff.
Activities are well organised and varied which is great for Mum as she likes to be involved and busy.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.706)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.706) out of 10 for Leven Beach Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.831 for Leven Beach Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (148 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.831
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Leven Beach Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
