St Olaf Care Home

from Iain A (Nephew of Resident) published on 26 August 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My family relative moved to St Olaf from another care home. The difference in care standards between the two providers is notable with St Olaf being better by some margin in my estimation.

My relative has mobility issues. They were previously left in bed for days at a time, perhaps being transferred

from bed to a comfy chair just a couple of times a week. At St Olaf they are transferred from their bed every day and are then able to participate in some of the activities and to take meals in a communal setting rather than in isolation.

St Olaf has a more homely ambiance than other care homes that I've visited which have had an unappealing institutional atmosphere. Furthermore, the interior condition is better than I've seen elsewhere. There is an attention to detail that is typically lacking in other care homes.

My only criticism to date is with the billing: So far I've received two incorrect invoices. There is scope for improvement in the back office function

Reply from Kath Allan, Care Home Manager at St Olaf Care Home

Thank you so much for your comments - at St Olaf we strive to provide an inclusive and homely environment. I will certainly take your comments forward and ensure accuracy regarding invoices.

Sadly my mother passed away in Parklands this month and the care given to her and my family at the end was overwhelming. We were called in the early hours of the morning to attend as soon as possible, and unfortunately we arrived minutes after mum passing. The nurse in attendance was so warm, welcoming
and understanding at such a difficult time. While myself and my wife were in shock she spoke to my mother with such care and dignity, wishing her peace going forward. She truly melted our hearts and spoke to us with such compassion and professionalism we were truly thankful that she was with mum at the end. To have a nurse with such high qualities, being warm-hearted, tender and affectionate at such an emotional time, we were truly blessed.

Thank you so much for sharing such a moving and personal reflection. We are truly sorry for your loss, and it means a great deal to hear that your mother's final moments were met with such compassion, dignity and care. Supporting families through such an emotional time is a profound responsibility, and your kind words about our nurse's warmth and tenderness will be shared with immense pride. We are honoured to have been there with your mum at the end and deeply grateful for the trust you placed in us during such a significant moment. Our thoughts remain with you and your family.

My Dad went for a couple of weeks respite care and when I collected him had very much enjoyed his time at Mearns House. The staff were friendly and interacted well with the residents and accommodated my Dad's interests and hobbies. The only downside was construction work that I presume is finished now
that stopped full access to the garden He is now looking forward to his next visit which is very comforting to me.
Reply from Kirsty Craig, Home Manager at Mearns House

We are so pleased to hear that dad enjoyed his time with ourselves and look forward to welcoming him back to Mearns House. We are happy to report that the balcony works have now been completed and we have full access to our beautiful garden grounds which we fully intend to take full advantage of given the recent sunny weather!

Both myself (step- daughter) and my mum ( partner) of new resident (6weeks) can not emphasise enough how good we feel about Airthrey Care Home at this particularly difficult time!
As new 'clients' experiencing putting a loved one into care for the first time-we can not praise ALL staff enough!
The
support and communication has been superb, keeping us as a family fully updated and involved in our loved ones care plan, progress etc.
The care home itself is friendly, inviting, homely and very well kept with every attempt made to cater for each individuals needs.
We have been made to feel so welcome- everyone has been extremely helpful and reassuring without judgement.
The patients appear to be so well looked after and are encouraged to participate in organised activities.
The meals look great too! So good in fact, our family member has actually put some weight on!!
All in all, even at this early stage, we as a family are so happy to have found this excellent care home! THANK YOU

My mother has recently spent 4 weeks at Greenan Manor for respite. From the welcome at reception, to every member of staff, we could not speak more highly. Not only for the care and compassion shown to my Mum but also to the kindness shown to myself. We cannot recommend Greenan Manor highly enough.

St Olaf Care Home is an excellent home in Nairn. My aunt was here for over a year. I found the home, plus all the staff, amazing. Anytime we would visit, we were made so welcome, and the home is spotless. The staff were not only very caring and professional but also very friendly to all. My aunt was
so well looked after; they were so good to her. It was heart-warming to see this, also comforting to know she was in a lovely, caring environment. Sincere gratitude to all involved, thank you.

My husband is well looked after. The staff are caring and professional. Yet, I have an issue with the regular swapping around of the staff. They get moved to other floors, when they do an excellent job on my husband's floor. It takes a lot of time to entrust someone new and for them to get to know the
resident's needs and what makes them comfortable. I do not see anything beneficial in this practice.

Kincaid is a beautiful care home, very well-kept, and the staff are always very approachable and accommodating. They go above and beyond for residents as if they were part of their own family. They always have plenty of activities and outings to keep the residents busy and happy. My grandmother went
in after having a stroke, and we had no idea what the future held for her; however, the care and support she has received has made a life-changing difference, and our family is extremely thankful.

Choosing a care home for a parent is never an easy choice but I can honestly say I have never had a days worry since my Dad moved into Kelvinside Manor. I now he is well looked after and the staff all seem to genuinely care for him and I know he cares for them. There are so many little things that they
do for him that make such a difference and have eased his transition into the home, making him feel safe and at home. Kelvinside Manor is very luxurious and has many amenities but it's the staff that make it a home.

I have found the staff to be caring and compassionate
They have reacted promptly and appropriately when my Dad's condition deteriorated. I am always kept informed if there have been any changes.
Personally everyone has shown me kindness and understanding which helped me cope with the transition
of having to admit my dad for long term care from home. I feel he is safe and well cared for.

Forthland Lodge

from Alex B (Husband of Resident) published on 23 July 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My initial observations was that Forthland Lodge was not like a "normal" Care Home and could be described as a large bungalow integrated in a housing estate with a Conservatory looking onto an open well kept garden supplemented by other outdoor seating areas - excellent environment. Internally, the
no of clients was just under 50 making it quieter than other Care Homes I viewed.

As most people agree, it is the level of care that is the most important factor and again my observations showed the staff displayed a high level of care in all aspects of my wife's needs along with showing empathy and some fun where appropriate. This was also the observations of my wife's friends and relatives who were always offered a cup of tea and biscuits on arrival.

I have not heard of any complaints of the meals provided, and the room was clean and tidy and equipped with full en-suite facilities (unlike some other Care Homes). Finally, there is generally no problems of getting parked.
