My wife has been a resident for over a year now. After an extended stay in hospital, the family was eager to get a suitable nursing home. This was not without some concerns. We were confident that her social needs would be catered for (which, obviously was not something the hospital could do) but her
clinical care exercised our thoughts.
We needn't have worried - the nursing care has been beyond exemplary to our everlasting relief.
It is one of the most important decisions anyone can face to choose a nursing home for a loved one. That EVERY member of staff we meet works to the highest standards to ensure a safe and comfortable stay is beyond our (admittedly very high) expectations and we are eternally grateful for the peace of mind this gives to all our family.
Well done REDWOODS.
Reply from Cameron, Team Member at Redwoods Nursing HomeThank you so much for your heartfelt words. We understand how significant and emotional the decision can be when choosing a nursing home for a loved one, especially after a long hospital stay. Knowing that your wife feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for means everything to our team. Your recognition of both the clinical care and the social support we provide is incredibly meaningful. Every member of our Redwoods team works with compassion, professionalism, and dedication, so hearing that this has brought your family real peace of mind is deeply appreciated. Thank you again for your trust and for taking the time to share such a generous review. We're honoured to support your wife and your family.

We have always found all the staff very caring, professional and compassionate towards our friend who is under nursing care in Redwoods nursing home. Our friend suffers from the results of a severe stroke which rendered her immobile and with very limited speech. The staff spend time with her and put
huge effort into communicating with her and we have seen first hand, how she interacts with them. So a huge thank you to you all!!

My father became a resident at Redwoods Nursing Home 4yrs ago & I can honestly say the care & attention he has received has been exceptionally brilliant.
He has not always been the easiest to deal with but all staff have been brilliant.
Due to the care & kindness my father has received my
mother decided there was no better place for herself to see out her last years but in Redwoods also.
She has been a resident there now for nearly 6mths & I am amazed how well she has settled in.
She is looking so much happier & healthier since going there.
She's never been one for mixing with others but the staff have made her feel so welcome.
She says she's feels like part of a family
Huge thank you to you all,You have all taken so much pressure off of me and I can now enjoy my time with my parents and not have to worry about them.xx

The team at Redwoods are professional, compassionate and simply put, the very best. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who finds themselves in need of the service they provide. My mother has been cared for at Redwoods for nearly two and a half years. I see the staff go above and beyond
to make their residents as comfortable and happy as possible. There are lots of activities, interaction with the local schools, and music. Nursing care is of the highest standard and everyday care is carried out with the greatest of respect , dignity and good humour. Food, laundry, maintenance and other behind the scenes work is clearly done by people who care. Well done to everyone at Redwoods Carehome.

I'm very happy with the staff at Redwoods and would like to note my appreciation of their patience, care and kindness they show my friend. I am well aware that my friend "has his days" and can take it out on the very people who are helping him. I am concerned about the situation regarding my friend's
TV. I first raised the issue with his faulty remote control several weeks ago. Nothing has changed sadly- the remote doesn't work. I'd like to see my friend set a new flat screen TV so that he can choose what to watch and maybe even watch music or online streaming services.

My father has been a resident in Redwoods for the past 3 months. Both I and the rest of my extended family are delighted with the level of care that our beloved father receives. The staff are always patient, friendly and very professional. The staff have a wonderful way with Dad who can be very stubborn.
They have a great relationship with him incorporating fun into the situation, something he enjoys immensely. The recent Christmas Party organised for the residents was excellent. A party that we all enjoyed immensely, especially Dad. All-in-all, as a family, we are delighted with the care home. A real highland gem.

My husband came to Redwoods in March 2023 and settled much quicker than I thought he would. The staff are so caring and treat him with respect. Nothing is too much trouble, and we know he can be quite challenging at times.
We were pleased to see him participating in some of the activities. The staff
are so patient and encouraging.
I would recommend Redwoods to anyone needing a caring, efficient home from home.

My mother has been a resident at Redwoods Nursing Home for the past nine months. The caring and supportive staff eased the transition for both the resident and relatives. The home has an open and inclusive feel - all staff are very welcoming. Mum settled very quickly in this secure environment. The
recent appointment of an activities co-ordinator, and the wide spectrum of activities on offer has led to a much greater level of engagement and stimulation. The quality and variety of food provided is first-class. The home is very well-managed which instills great confidence in relatives.

Our mother moved care home to Redwood in April 2022. She was in another care home prior to this period for six months, and the nursing care was awful. Since moving to Redwood, the care has been fantastic - so, so much better than the nursing care she received in the previous care home. The staff at
Redwood are brilliant - so caring!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.708)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.708) out of 10 for Redwoods Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.883 for Redwoods Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (139 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.883
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Redwoods Nursing Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Situated in the picturesque village of Alness in the Scottish Highlands, Redwoods is a purpose-built home, set within the walled garden of an impressive Victorian country estate. The home provides high-quality nursing care to elderly people, including those with dementia and associated conditions.

A complete care programme

Featuring well-appointed ensuite rooms, Redwoods utilises some of the latest technology to make residents as comfortable and safe as possible. This includes a progressive secure dementia unit which complements the existing nursing care facilities. As part of this, we encourage residents and their families to be involved at all stages of care planning and other aspects of care home life.

A social experience

Ensuring that residents can retain as much independence as possible is a priority at Redwoods and with four spacious lounge and dining areas and a dedicated activities/reminiscence room, those in our care are able to enjoy socialising and participating in many of their favourite hobbies and activities. These spaces are also pleasant spots for residents to enjoy high-quality nutritious meals produced by the highly skilled catering team.

Peaceful surroundings

The beautiful wooded surroundings make for a wonderful sense of tranquillity, and our secure gardens are extremely popular with residents wanting to sit and relax or perhaps indulge in a spot of gardening.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2014

I have worked at Redwoods since 2014, starting in the Kitchen as an assistant while studying Psychology at The University of Highlands & Islands.

Once I Graduated with a degree in Psychology, I changed my role to work the night shift as a care assistant for 2 years, where I continued to work on my personal development, completing my SVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.

I then moved onto dayshift where I applied for a Senior Care Worker position and was successful. I completed the 6-month course at Meallmore, and then the SVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care. While working for the next couple of years I continued to learn and completed a course in Diabetes Management as well as taking on more responsibility within my role.

I then decided I wanted to progress further, and was successful in my application for the Senior Care Practitioner post at Redwoods. During my time working in this role, I completed more Meallmore training which taught me both Clinical & Leadership and Management skills. I took on a Lead position within the home Continence care, Learning and Development of staff as well as other champion roles. This helped me continue to develop my skills and practice.

I then applied for the Deputy Manager position in 2023 where I was offered the role. This is the current role I have within Redwoods which has been fantastic in continuously improving my practice and skills. I am currently working on a Leadership and Management course within Meallmore, as well as the SVQ level 4 in Health and Social Care.

Person-centred working is at the heart of my practice. I have worked over the years to support other care home staff to adopt this ethos in their work. This means supporting every resident in our home, in a manner in which they wish to be cared for while encouraging and promoting independence at all times.
