St Olaf Care Home

My family relative moved to St Olaf from another care home. The difference in care standards between the two providers is notable with St Olaf being better by some margin in my estimation.

My relative has mobility issues. They were previously left in bed for days at a time, perhaps being transferred

from bed to a comfy chair just a couple of times a week. At St Olaf they are transferred from their bed every day and are then able to participate in some of the activities and to take meals in a communal setting rather than in isolation.

St Olaf has a more homely ambiance than other care homes that I've visited which have had an unappealing institutional atmosphere. Furthermore, the interior condition is better than I've seen elsewhere. There is an attention to detail that is typically lacking in other care homes.

My only criticism to date is with the billing: So far I've received two incorrect invoices. There is scope for improvement in the back office function

Reply from Kath Allan, Care Home Manager at St Olaf Care Home

Thank you so much for your comments - at St Olaf we strive to provide an inclusive and homely environment. I will certainly take your comments forward and ensure accuracy regarding invoices.

St Olaf Care Home is an excellent home in Nairn. My aunt was here for over a year. I found the home, plus all the staff, amazing. Anytime we would visit, we were made so welcome, and the home is spotless. The staff were not only very caring and professional but also very friendly to all. My aunt was
so well looked after; they were so good to her. It was heart-warming to see this, also comforting to know she was in a lovely, caring environment. Sincere gratitude to all involved, thank you.

I'm very happy with the staff at Redwoods and would like to note my appreciation of their patience, care and kindness they show my friend. I am well aware that my friend "has his days" and can take it out on the very people who are helping him. I am concerned about the situation regarding my friend's
TV. I first raised the issue with his faulty remote control several weeks ago. Nothing has changed sadly- the remote doesn't work. I'd like to see my friend set a new flat screen TV so that he can choose what to watch and maybe even watch music or online streaming services.

I can only comment on my visits during the week I have been in Nairn from abroad.
All the staff have been courteous and helpful to us as family of a resident.
We are very impressed with the level of care provided and the facilities available.
The rooms are spacious and provide for families to make
their loved one feel most comfortable and homely.
We are confident that our family member has settled well within the location desired and especially nearby to close friends and is being cared for in the most appropriate way at this time.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and homely. All departments are efficient, and any queries or requests are dealt with promptly. The facilities

The dignity and exceptional standard of care my mother receives during her short time at Daviot Care Home, has gone so much further than words can share. You have given us peace where there was none, and a period of time we though had long gone from her world. I have been a nurse for a long long time
and I can say with complete honesty that the palliative care he received was everything and more we needed for her. Thank you.

My father has been a resident of Culduthel Care Home for the past 3 months, during which time I have been very happy with his care. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There is an extensive range of activities to suit all capabilities and I have accompanied my father to many
of these, which he has enjoyed. The food is varied and nourishing and should he not want anything on the menu there is nothing the staff are not able to provide for him. He eats well and has gained weight in the time he has been there.
The surroundings are beautiful, furnished to the highest standard and there is always tea, coffee and soft drinks available to visitors, along with delicious home baking.
I am always made to feel welcome and can visit any time and stay as long as I like.

Really appreciated being included in some of the Christmas entertainment that was organised in December. Thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime and party. My sister appreciated being able to attend the Christmas lunch.
All the activities we went to started earlier than was indicated on the information
sent out/weekly planner. Now we know this happens we'll try and be more organised for future events. Both of us travel a distance so quite a bit of planning is involved and timings are also dependent of traffic and road conditions.
