I looked at lots of care homes in Glasgow for my mum before choosing Mearns House. What impressed me most was the sense of a calm, inviting space with lots of natural light. The carers I met all seemed friendly, calm and engaged. And that impression persists, now that my mum has been here for about
a month now. When it was her birthday they went to a big effort to decorate a dining room with banners and balloons, providing a cake, food and music. My mum was really touched by the effort and attention. I feel like my mum is being looked out for and care is being given that she is not just looked after physically, but that her whole experience there is carefully considered. I feel like my mum has already made friends with some of the residents and carers and it's a nice space to visit her - there are different areas we can sit in and get coffee if we want to. I highly recommend it here.
Reply from Kirsty Craig, Home Manager at Mearns HouseThank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful and detailed review. It truly means a great deal to us.

We're delighted to hear that your first impressions of Mearns House-its calm atmosphere, natural light, and welcoming environment-have continued throughout your mum's stay. Creating a space that feels both comfortable and uplifting for residents and their families is very important to us, so it's wonderful to know this has resonated with you.

Your kind words about our team are especially appreciated. We strive to provide not only high quality care, but also meaningful engagement and genuine companionship. It's lovely to hear that your mum is settling in well, forming friendships, and feeling part of the community.

We're also so pleased that mums birthday celebration made her feel special. Moments like these are incredibly important to us, as we aim to make every resident feel valued and celebrated.

Thank you again for your recommendation.

Excellent staff both medical (nurses) and carers. Management are available and receptive. Food could be better, more age appropriate, residents of this generation need simple food cooked well not Chinese or the like. More meat, fish, ham etc- it would appear the cooks budget is too small! More attention
after 8pm would be appreciated.
Reply from Kirsty Craig, Home Manager at Mearns HouseThank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are particularly pleased by your positive feedback regarding our nursing, care, and management teams, and we thank you for recognising their commitment, professionalism, and openness. In relation to catering, our menus are developed in partnership with our residents to ensure their individual preferences, tastes, and wishes are respected. We aim to provide variety, balance, and flexibility, and there are no budgetary constraints placed on our catering service. Your feedback is valued, and we will continue to review and refine our menu offerings to ensure they remain enjoyable, appropriate, and aligned with residents' expectations. Staffing levels are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure care is always provided safely and effectively. Although night shifts usually operate with fewer staff, this is carefully planned and managed and does not compromise the safety, wellbeing, or direct care of our residents, who remain our absolute priority.

My initial feeling on entering the care home to enquire about respite was a very warm and welcoming Care Home. This has only been confirmed by the wonderful nursing and care staff who have looked after my husband during his respite stay. Their kindness, patience and empathy towards him meant that
he settled into the home immediately and was never upset when I had to leave him after visiting him each time. Mearns House is a big warm, safe home that you can leave your loved ones with confidence of the care they will receive.
Reply from Kirsty Craig, Home Manager at Mearns HouseThank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. It was truly an honour and a privilege for our team to care for your husband during his time at Mearns House, and he is very much missed by everyone here. We are so pleased to hear that you felt welcomed from your very first visit and that his respite stay was a positive and reassuring experience for you both. Your words about the kindness, patience, and empathy shown by our nursing and care staff mean a great deal to us and reflect the values we strive to uphold every day. Mearns House is a bright, welcoming and comfortable home, with attractive garden space and a broad range of activities and events. But what makes it a particularly special place are the caring, friendly and dedicated staff, who treat all residents with dignity and who add joy and warmth to their lives.
My stepmother has been resident for over three years, and all her needs are met professionally and compassionately. It's very reassuring to see her happy within the Mearns House family, and to know that she's fully supported and so well looked after. Huge thanks to all involved in her care.

Staff are amazing at managing my father. He has been a resident here for 3 months now. They now know dad very well, and superb at using distraction techniques to occupy dad when he is stressed or looking for my mum. I cannot praise the nursing staff and the care staff enough. They do really care about
dad and always have his best interests at heart. The family are all delighted about the care dad is receiving.

We felt my mum was very well looked after during her recent respite stay. Right from arrival through to the goodbyes staff were attentive, kind and patient. We were reassured she was safe, had the opportunity to join in activities and had company all in beautiful surroundings.
Mearns House is beautifully
decorated with lots of lovely homely touches. My mum thought the food excellent and room very comfortable.
We'd definitely recommend Mearns House to others.

My Dad went for a couple of weeks respite care and when I collected him had very much enjoyed his time at Mearns House. The staff were friendly and interacted well with the residents and accommodated my Dad's interests and hobbies. The only downside was construction work that I presume is finished now
that stopped full access to the garden He is now looking forward to his next visit which is very comforting to me.
Reply from Kirsty Craig, Home Manager at Mearns HouseWe are so pleased to hear that dad enjoyed his time with ourselves and look forward to welcoming him back to Mearns House. My Mum needed a short respite stay and we were delighted with the care provided. Staff were compassionate, caring and friendly. The establishment seems to be very well resourced in terms of having plenty of staff to provide safe levels of care. Pleasant atmosphere. Clean and well decorated/furnished.
Food offered seems to be excellent with a good choice. There is a coffee bar with coffee for the residents and their visitors. Good communication from staff.

My dad entered respite care after deteriorating quickly with cancer. From the minute I met the team at the home, the level of care they provided was exemplary. nothing was too much for them and they loved and cared for my dad in the last few weeks of his life. the support I received helped through a
very difficult time too and I have had regular contact weeks after my dad has passed to make sure I am ok. The manager runs a very good home and I have nothing but praise for her and her team. Would highly recommend.

My husband was in for nine days respite. After researching various care homes, my husband picked Mearns House.
The home was immaculate and very fresh.
The staff went above and beyond to ensure my husband had an enjoyable and relaxing stay.
His words at the end if his stay was it was more like
a hotel than a care home. We would most definitely use Mearns House again.

My mother took up residency at Mearns Court in October 2023 having been widowed in 2020 and becoming less self-sufficient. She sadly passed away in March 2024; however, my brother and I will be eternally grateful to all the staff at Mearns House for the care and genuine love they provided during our
mum's stay. They gave her a new lease of life, providing amazing entertainment and activities. They would constantly go 'above and beyond' to optimise the experience of the residents and create a joyful, safe and loving 'home.'
