My Mum is extremely happy in Auchtercrag Care home Ellon. I am well informed about her well being and any issues at all that may come up in her day to day care. She struggles with accepting personal care and the nurses and carers try so hard to help her overcome this although it can be difficult at
times, they persevere. There are lots of activities for her to join in with and although I can't attend the relatives meetings due to work we are kept well informed and there are plenty opportunities for discussion on the phone or at care reviews. The dentist ,doctor and chiropodist all attend if needed. Only tricky thing for me is the hospital prescription she needs can not be sent to Ellon I have to arrange and pick it up but that is an NHS problem not the homes fault. Thanks for making mine and my Mum's life so much easier

Since mum went to live at Auchtercrag 9 months ago she has thrived under the care of the staff involved with her. She tells us there is "nowhere she would rather be" which is indeed the highest of compliments. The home is always welcoming, is kept beautifully, food is very appealing and staff interact
well with residents. Staff contact me quickly with any concerns and I feel that mum is treated as an individual in the home. Very happy to recommend to any potential residents and families.

My Dad stayed at St Modans for just under 2 1/2 years before he passed away. He had mixed dementia and was in the Dementia Unit. I have nothing but praise for all the staff, the care Dad received and the support I received during his time there. His room was always clean. The meals were delicious and
nutritious. He was always clean and tidy. There was always activities and entertainment to keep residents occupied should they choose to take part or attend. I was always informed promptly about any changes or incidents. I always felt welcome when visiting and the Carers always took the time to answer any of my questions and have a little chat. The compassion and care shown to Dad at the end, and the support I received made a sad time much easier. I can't thank them enough.

My husband moved in recently, he is living with dementia. I visit almost daily, and he always appears content in his relatively new surroundings. I am made to feel welcome, and the Care Staff are always mingling with the residents, so available to approach. There is evidence of a huge emphasis on
meaningful activities and community inclusion; residents and staff are seen in the local village.

Mum was only resident in The Grove for six weeks as awaiting a room elsewhere, however the care and attention she received has been second to none, and we simply cannot fault it.
All the staff have been absolutely lovely, cheerful and helpful. Her room was always spotlessly clean and fresh, as was
the rest of the home. Mum obviously enjoyed the specially prepared food as, following a stroke she was very underweight, but the improvement in her condition in such a short time is remarkable.
Grateful thanks to all the staff.

We completely understand how important activities and social events are for keeping residents engaged and stimulated. January can sometimes be a quieter period due to all the excitement over Xmas and New Year, a time for relaxation and reflection. But to that point, we're excited to have our new activities coordinator on board, and there are lots of great activities planned for the coming weeks and months. We truly appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing our residents enjoy a variety of engaging experiences soon.

My husband is a resident of St Modan's suffering from early onset mixed dementia. St Modan's rooms and communal areas are immaculate and the food is excellent. I am always encouraged to eat meals with my husband to sustain social interactions. My husband is extremely well looked after, being supported
with personal care on a daily basis with clothes regularly laundered.
The staff have developed a very positive relationship with my husband and they encourage him to socialise and take part in the varied activities provided. This is especially important to me as I work full time and it's very comforting to know he is so well looked after both socially and medically.
I would also like to commend St Modan's social media page. Our daughters stay abroad and it's great for them to see their dad having fun and being happy.
All staff have been so welcoming and supportive and we cannot thank them enough for the care shown.

Grove Care Home

from J C (Wife of Resident) published on 11 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My husband arrived after being in hospital. Certain drugs that he was given in hospital were not prescribed at the care home so he was very confused, unsettled and became aggressive. This was our first experience of a care home. We all realised (ourselves and care staff) that they could not cope with
his condition of Lewy Body Dementia. He was asked to find somewhere else. Some of the carers were good and did genuinely appear to care; however I certainly felt that most staff never really properly supported either of us. I felt we were being talked about behind our backs and there was no real caring support. I was willing to support my husband and his carers. His care notes did not depict what was happening. The staff did little to encourage my husband to walk despite the fact that I managed to get the council physio to visit him regularly. My husband moved to another care home and is now home. On his first day at the new care home he had a shower which was never given at The Grove after a 6 week stay.

Reply from Cameron, Grove Care Home Representative at Grove Care Home

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are committed to providing compassionate, individualised care and welcome the opportunity to address concerns while respecting the confidentiality and dignity of our residents. Any adjustments to hospital prescriptions are made under medical guidance to prioritise our residents' well-being. Our team collaborates closely with GPs and specialists to provide tailored care, particularly for complex conditions like Lewy Body Dementia, which we are highly experienced in managing. We prioritise personal care and mobility support, ensuring these are documented and aligned with professional advice for safety. It is disappointing to hear you felt unsupported, as clear and respectful communication with families is central to our approach here at Grove. We aim to create a safe and compassionate environment. While transitions to care homes can be challenging, our team is trained and dedicated to meeting our residents' needs.
