I couldn't recommend Greenan Manor highly enough. My mother lived there for two years with gradually worsening vascular dementia and she deteriorated physically too. However the staff, every single one of them from every department, was caring and did everything they could to make mum comfortable
and add enrichment to her life. It wasn't easy as at times she didn't want to engage but they always worked round what she would do or enjoy.
Physically it is very comfortable and appears more like a good hotel, with excellent private facilities but it also has lovely public areas which is great for the residents. The 'cafe' on each floor allows residents and their visitors to engage in a setting which gives the feeling of an outing.
However, the most important thing about Greenan is the staff. They genuinely care about their residents and spend time with them beyond the nursing and care responsibilities. Mum had a 'good' death, surrounded by loving care which extended to us, her family.

My mother was finding it more difficult to cope at home after her vascular dementia diagnosis...we initially enquired at Greenan Manor if she could possibly stay on a respite basis for a few weeks as my mother and father in law had both stayed for a few weeks and the care they received was excellent.
It was arranged that my mother should initially stay for 2 weeks but the care and support she received from Joe and his team was outstanding and the change in my mother's mood and demeanor was incredible...my mother is now a full time resident at Greenan Manor and she has a quality of life she would not have if she was anywhere else.. As a family we can't recommend Greenan Manor enough it truly is a class above any other care home that I have visited.

My aunt resided at Greenan Manor for nearly 18 months. A new manager came in about 6 months after my aunt was admitted and the staff group then became much more stable, and staff training seemed to feature more heavily. When my aunt was first admitted there seemed to be poor communication between
staff and one had to repeat the same information on multiple occasions. Though there were always caring staff, after the management changed the staff group became engaged, interested, caring, supportive and responsive. This applied to care staff, but also to hospitality staff, catering staff, entertainment staff, administrative staff, and management. Staff take responsibility and address issues raised, even if the matter does not relate directly to their responsibility.

There is a constant range of activities for residents to participate in, suited to the varying abilities and interests of the different residents.

Equipped to a high standard the home in some ways feels like a hotel

My sister came into Greenan Manor in August 2021. She came straight from hospital and was suffering from delirium. The staff were so kind and caring at all times. The delirium sadly went to more like dementia and she couldn't do anything for herself. During her time at Greenan - just over 2 years -
I can truly say that she was well cared for. The staff were very kind and caring. As for Greenan Manor itself - it is a very well appointed place - looks more like an hotel than a care home. Beautifully appointed ensuite rooms, lovely lounges, nice dining rooms and a very comfortable cafe. There is also a very nice hair salon. Unfortunately my sister ended her days at Greenan. Over the last 3 days of her life the staff were excellent and loving towards her. They also took great care of my younger sister, husband and myself. We could not have asked for more. I would highly recommend Greenan Manor if anyone is looking for a care home for a loved one.
Reply from Cameron, Greenan Manor Care Home at Greenan ManorThank you for your very kind and thoughtful review. We are truly grateful that you took the time to share your experience of Greenan Manor and the care your sister received during her time with us. We understand how difficult it can be when a loved one's health changes, and it means a great deal to hear that our team were able to provide kindness, care and support throughout your sister's time in the home. We are especially touched by your comments about the care and compassion shown during her final days, and that our team were able to support not only your sister but also you and your family during such an emotional time. Your kind words about the home, the environment and our colleagues will mean so much to the team, who work very hard to create a warm, welcoming and supportive place for residents and their families. MY husband and I have been delighted with the welcome we have received in Greenan Manor. Every memberof staff has been tremendous and can't do enough to make his stay here as comfortable and happy as possible. Nothing is a problem to them, no matter what time of day. Recently the local GP was required
and attended during the night.
Support from staff has been above and beyond expectations as recently we had a memorable motor sport presentation for my husband in the private dining facility set up by the staff. A lovely memory to cherish. Greenan Manor is certainly a home from home.
The day to day variety in the menu for every meal is something to look forward to and always nicely presented and tasty. It is wonderful to be able to dine with my wife when desired. or celebrate events in the private diningroom or used the cafe with visitors.
The facilities are wonderful too. The ability to have a varied activity time table with the use of a cinema and cafe is wonderful.
Reply from Cameron, Team Member at Greenan ManorThank you so much for your incredibly thoughtful review. It means a great deal to the entire team at Greenan Manor. I'd like to highlight the wonderful care and humanity my dad got at Greenan Manor in his final months. The management and staff are a credit to the organisation. The period of the last week, my sister and I were bedside constantly and I cannot emphasise enough the genuine care and love we felt from
the staff throughout. They went so far above and beyond their remit to ensure we were looked after and my dad passed peacefully and with dignity. We won't forget that and it's hugely appreciated.
Reply from Cameron, Team Member at Greenan ManorThank you, David, for sharing such a deeply personal and moving reflection. Greenan Manor is an excellent nursing home. My mum has got some strength back after a few days in hospital and several weeks at home where she was mainly bed-bound. I sleep better knowing that my mum is safe in Greenan Manor during the night as she requires assistance from staff overnight. She is now
able to walk with her zimmer. Hopefully she'll be able to walk with her stick soon!!

My mother needed full time care after being hospitalised and being too frail to return to her home. The care home itself is a lovely facility, new and modern and very much like a hotel. All the staff at Greenan Manor have been fantastic with my mum, looking after her every need. She has said on a number

Initially my mother went in to Greenan Manor for respite care, however it quickly became evident that with the high standard of care and facilities provided this would be her long term home. She has now been in Greenan Manor for nearly 4 years. The facilities are great, clean and comfortable, its like

The staff are always friendly and genuinely caring and compassionate. Her medical needs are well managed and any potential medical issues promptly addressed.

Well maybe mom stayed Greenan Manor for two weeks, she absolutely loved every minute of it. She was made to feel so welcome by absolutely everyone.
She advised Joe in their recent meeting that she would rate Greenan Manor 12 out of 10.
She's been told she's very welcome to return when she wishes to
say hello to the many friends she's made there.
Thank you all so much

Dad was admitted to hospital and as sole carer for my Mum and we had to find respite care quickly. Subsequently we put Dad in for end of life care at Greenan Manor to be with Mum. The home is very people centric and have been so accomodating to my parents needs. The gardens and views are fantastic, the
interior decor/fabrics and placement of chairs allows for a pleasant, calm and engaging atmospere for both residents and visitors. When we visit the staff are always very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. They have treated my parents with dignity and respect at all times which allows us great peace of mind.Testament to their care is the fact that my Dad's health has improved to such an extent that both parents should be home in a few weeks. Without their intervention the result would likely have had a significantly different ending. I would very much recommend this care home and it would be my first choice if/when my parents require full time care.

My mum has just started at Greenan Manor and I couldn't be happier with our choice . We now have 3 parents /in-laws in care homes and Greenan Manor has a far healthier staff/patient ratio than it appears elsewhere. They care and that to me is the most precious aspect. Greenan Manor is set in beautiful location with wonderful coastal views. As soon as you enter there is a sense of calm and everything is immaculate and comfortable.
There are spacious public areas where my husband can choose to spend time and where myself, family and friends can enjoy when visiting.
I particularly like that we can visit anytime and are always welcomed.
All staff display warm relationships with residents and their families. From the outset I was encouraged by care staff to be involved in planning and decisions about my husband's care. This really helped with transition from home. Care staff know my husband well e.g. having the choice of where to eat meals. They do a great job.
I would highly recommend Greenan Manor.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.937) out of 10 for Greenan Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.937 for Greenan Manor is calculated as follows: ( (267 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 285 Ratings = 4.937
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Greenan Manor is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2025

With over 26 years of experience in the voluntary care sector, I’ve had the privilege of managing a wide range of services across the UK - from supporting children and young people living with cancer to specialist care for older adults. Each role has shaped my deep belief in delivering not just high-quality care, but care that leads to meaningful outcomes for those we support and their loved ones.

Joining the Greenan Manor family has been an absolute joy. I’ve felt genuinely welcomed by residents, their families, and our incredible team - there’s a real sense of warmth and community here.

I’m passionate about ensuring Greenan Manor continues to be a place where every resident feels valued, supported, and truly at home. Working alongside a dedicated team, my focus is on building upon our existing high standards, always striving to be the very best we can be.

Home for me is Ayr, where I live with my wife, Kelly and our teenage daughter. I'm also a proud dad to two older sons and a very lucky grandad to three beautiful grandchildren. When I’m not at Greenan Manor, you’ll most likely find me out on the road - I’m a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast with a particular love for Harley Davidsons!
