For the last 20 years Leys Park has been dedicated to the care of older people. Set in large grounds, Leys Park has an enclosed garden with an area specifically designed for the home by the Prince’s Trust.

Once the Northern Hospital in Dunfermline, the 64 bedded home has a unit specialising in dementia care and a separate unit focusing on the care of frail older people. A refurbishment and re-decoration programme has provided a cosy and comfortable home and the latest facilities and equipment ensure the health and safety of residents with limited mobility.

Activity co-ordinators run a varied programme of hobbies and events at the home, including quizzes, regular bingo sessions and arts and crafts. Residents can also enjoy trips out to local attractions and to the nearby Fife coast. Particularly popular are afternoon teas and coffee mornings.

Once a month Leys Park hold a residents’ meeting to listen to peoples’ views and to let everyone know what the home has planned for the following few weeks.

We were made aware my mum could no longer live at home and had to find a care home for Mum within a few days. We didn’t have any choice as we were in the middle of lockdown. I was very nervous as we knew nothing regarding Leys Park and she was admitted on a six week trial period. The staff were amazing
with Mum and she settled very quickly. She has a great connection with most of the staff and I’m sure she will be quite demanding. After the six week period we didn’t even consider moving Mum as she is happy and has never requested to go home. The staff have a great connection with the residents and always go above and beyond, we could not thank them enough. Even when my dad passed away the support she got from staff reassured us all. I would highly recommend this care facility to family and friends.

The staff are doing a great job of looking after our mum. The staff have shown true care/commitment to their residents, especially during the last few months (Covid). Friendly atmosphere when you walk into Leys Park. Lots of activities arranged for residents as well as guest singers and musicians. It's
an old building but updating and improvements are ongoing. What has been updated looks fabulous. Have had a couple of issues, however, these were dealt with appropriately by management. Well done and thank you, Leys Park.

The building is quite old but is being renovated. We have been very impressed by the staff and management who really seem to care about the residents. Things have been difficult recently with visits not being possible because of Covid-19 lockdown. We have been able to use phone calls and video calls,
which has helped.

Overall, we are very happy with the care our parent receives. The building is dated, but renovation works are ongoing, and we have been kept updated on progress. We have had a few isolated complaints, but these have been dealt with swiftly and satisfactory.

My mum is in the dementia unit at Leys Park. The care she receives is excellent. During this lockdown they have kept residents and themselves safe; well done and thank you.

It is a very good and caring home, the only downfall is it's a very old building and needs a lot of renovation, but that is getting done gradually. Everything seems fine and all the staff do their best to make my mum and myself very welcome.

My father lived with the staff at Leys Park for three-plus years, and they were absolutely fantastic - throughout his life with them and at the time of his passing. He was happy and his old sense of humour emerged under the love and fun-full care they gave him. And they were so caring towards and considerate
of my mother and myself. I am so pleased we found Leys Park in our moment of need.

Staff are friendly and approachable. My mum is a 79 year old schizophrenic so can be difficult. I am very surprised about how much it all costs, very expensive.

The home will be much better when the refurbishment is complete, although there already looks as if maintenance is required. The staff are lovely but seem overworked and not enough of them. Dad seems settled though and that's the main thing.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.641)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.641) out of 10 for Leys Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.235 for Leys Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.235

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.406 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Leys Park Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.606

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
