Hailed as a stunning example of a modern purpose built care home when it opened in 2005, Methven House continues to display a high level of both comfort and quality.

Methven House provides nursing care on three floors with a total of 60 bedrooms – 58 large single rooms and two double rooms for couples who have decided that the time is right to enjoy round the clock care and attention. The upper floors are accessed by two lifts. All bedrooms are spacious and airy with en-suite toilets and either a shower or a bath.

The top floor features extra large bedrooms and en-suite shower rooms, giving these residents almost unprecedented independence within a comforting cocoon. Methven House also enjoys a wide range of facilities ranging from an in-house hairdressing salon to an internet café.

A state-of-the-art sprinkler system, low surface-temperature radiators and other special safety and security systems have been designed-in, as have sun-pipes to provide natural light wherever possible. Direct-dial telephone system with itemised billing is installed in each bedroom. The nursing home also features specialised bathing facilities and an intercall alarm facility with its own audio link, which alerts staff instantly to any problems and allows instant communication between residents and care staff.

Surrounding Methven House are private landscaped garden areas where residents can take a stroll or simply sit and enjoy the fresh air and flowers.

Ideally located in the heart of Kirkcaldy town centre, the close proximity to the local bus and train stations also places Methven House within easy reach of the many attractions of the surrounding area. Edinburgh is easily reached by both road and rail.

With regular outings to the shops, shows – the famous Adam Smith Theatre is within yards of the nursing home – and other places of interest in the company’s own minibus there is always plenty to do.

Overall my wife and I have found her father's experience very positive. Communication from staff and management has been open and clear. The staff have been welcoming and have connected in an open and friendly way. That openness along with opportunities to connect with others through various activities
has been helpful. The room is clean and tidy. We are unable to comment on value for money as we, at this moment in time do not know what we are required to pay.

When I first came in February 2022 I was not settled at all. It took a long time for me to settle in. However, now I am a lot more settled because I am treated properly by the staff.

On arrival at the home, there was no one at the reception desk to let us in. There was another visitor waiting who ended up phoning and asked someone to come and let us in! Whilst visiting my mother we wanted to speak to a member of staff but none were to be found. We eventually found four members of
staff in a small sitting room off the dining room watching TV. All the while we were there someone’s buzzer was going off and not answered! On leaving the home we went to the main office to make sure my mother had enough funds in her account. There was one member of staff in the office who attended to us reluctantly but again there were other visitors waiting to come in and had been waiting a while and I think if we hadn’t been going out they would have had a longer wait. Staff aren’t very friendly or approachable and not to have reception manned is a poor show!
Reply from Colin Couser, Home Manager at Methven HouseThank you for your comment. We take all concerns very seriously and are keen to investigate to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all residents. Please email methven.manager@kingdomhomesltd.co.uk so we can discuss further.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.412)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.412) out of 10 for Methven House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.512 for Methven House is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 207 Ratings = 4.512
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Methven House is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
