My father become a resident in Garioch Care Home on 19th November 2024. Our initial meeting with the manager was very informative and our invitation to lunch along with our father was excellent. Future care has been amazing, with any of our concerns dealt with immediately. Staff are friendly and approachable.

Great and friendly staff who have helped my mum and myself navigate the care that she needs and also being very understanding of individual situations, my mum is very happy and settled here.
I can't thank the manager, the deputy manager and all the staff enough for what they do day to day for my mum.

As discussed I am very satisfied with the care received by my mother. She is happy and well looked after. The food always looks lovely, there is always nice home baking. It is never ideal to have a loved one in a care home but I genuinely believe Garioch is as good as we could hope for. The staff are
absolutely exceptional, a real credit to you. Ten out of ten, 5 stars for the staff!

Having had no recent experience of relatives or friends in a care home, I was naturally anxious given some recent press reports. I now know my anxiety was unfounded given the treatment my father has received.
I have nothing to compare with, however, I find it impossible to find fault in any aspect
of my father's care.

Good communication from management, nursing staff and carers. Any concerns I had were dealt with promptly. Each resident has individual needs and they are treated accordingly. There is a very homely atmosphere and lovely home-cooked meals. Lots of organised activities and entertainment. I would have
no hesitation in recommending Garioch Care Home.

I have not ticked the box 'value for money' as I have no standards of comparison. Management are consistently pleasant and provide all help and information. In my opinion they generate a pleasant, friendly atmosphere in the home. Carers and nurses are also consistently friendly, cheerful and informative,
while remaining at all times totally professional. Management and staff make Garioch a nice place to visit. I think it is a fine establishment.

Almost all of the management, office, care and cleaning/cooking staff's individual performance in terms of concern, care and interest in residents is excellent, which is remarkable considering the nature of the job - not easy! Where problems arise (and because of the nature of the environment they work
in occasionally they do) the various staff immediately try to resolve them, if they can't they promptly find someone who can. On the whole, whatever level and discipline the staff are, they do an excellent job, way over and above what is required of them in looking after my wife. They all deserve individual recognition as well as a team.

Dad has recently (1st month) moved into Garioch Care Home - what a difference a month makes! Even with his vascular dementia, he has returned (as much as possible) to his sociable self, sitting in the communal lounge, going on bus trips (Whitehills/Portsoy) and being more talkative rather than sitting
alone in his living room all day with no company.
The staff are very considerate of his needs, and nothing appears too much trouble with his room made homely, his TV allowed to be fitted and as many memorable pictures as he wants - when his watch battery stopped, the maintenance team swapped the battery without a fuss, ensuring Dad didn't get agitated - his condition doesn't react well to change or difficulties, so changing a battery without a fuss while a small thing, is big in Dads eyes.
Now, when me and my family see Dad, we are visiting him rather than looking after him, which is great
Finally, Dad's, personal hygiene has returned to where it should be with the help of the staff.

My mother has been in the care of the Garioch Care Home from the beginning of the year. When going to visit I’m always welcomed by friendly and chatty staff. The atmosphere is homely and always cheery. All staff are always happy to help. The home is clean and I feel comfortable being there. There is
always activities and entertainment going on. I trust them fully with my Mums care which puts me at ease. An overall lovely place.

My mother is a recent arrival but in those weeks she has been left buzzing for assistance on two occasions for more than one hour. Laundry goes missing and lack of medication over one weekend (paracetamol). Overall all is okay but not great.

Since April 2021, my mum has been a resident in Garioch Care Home. Even in the middle of the pandemic, a truly trying time for everyone, all staff have shown great empathy towards Mum and her needs, in regards to care and well being, have been met since day one. Garioch Care Home is safe, secure and
well maintained, as are the grounds, with bonny floral displays, in season, to add to the ambience of Garioch Care Home. The staff keep us informed as and when they need to and we are encouraged to contact the home if we have any questions/issues, at any time. That is very much appreciated, as are the regular residents' family meetings with senior staff. No matter how busy they are the staff always make time for visitors. All the staff are always friendly and approachable and because of the high standards they maintain at all levels, we have peace of mind knowing Mum is being well cared for.
Thank you all.

This home is adhering to guidance for families to visit their loved ones and it is evident that they are clear about Open with Care Guidance. The manager, lady at reception and the care staff have shown so much love, care, compassion and understanding for families to be together and understand the impact
of when this can’t happen. They should be commended for this as an example of good practice.

I cannot speak highly enough about the Garioch Care Home where my dad resided for the last seven years until he sadly passed away last month after a long battle with dementia. The professionalism, compassion and caring nature of all the staff meant my dad was always very happy and content and was such
a big part of the Garioch family. I was regularly kept updated with all aspects of his care and wellbeing. A fantastic team and truly and home from home - secure, safe and facilities all excellent. They all do an amazing job, and I will be forever grateful to each and every one of them... thank you!

We had our doubts about Dad going in to a care home but Garioch Care Home surpassed all our expectations. Dad was extremely well taken care of, the staff are so caring and patient. We could call anytime we wanted to see how he was and Skype calls were encouraged due to Covid-19 restrictions. Any email
correspondence was answered quickly and with a special touch so that Dad was not just a number. We could not have asked for better care or a more professional service. Sadly Dad passed away after only five weeks but in this time he had everything he needed and more. It was a great comfort to all of us that he was always clean and well dressed. He was treated to a birthday celebration tea party, allowed his own personal things in his room and we were kept informed of any changes or concerns. The atmosphere is welcoming and all of the staff were helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Our family can't thank them enough for the care they gave to Dad. Would definitely recommend.

Our mother was cared for extremely well over the time that she was resident in the care home until her death in October 2019. All the staff were friendly, cheerful, caring and competent. They always had the time to stay and chat with mum. We could not have wished for better care of our mother, especially
over the last few months of her life following a debilitating stroke. She especially liked when any of the dogs came to visit her!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.598)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.598) out of 10 for Garioch Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.698 for Garioch Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.698
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Garioch Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
