Overall Experience
Since April 2021, my mum has been a resident in Garioch Care Home. Even in the middle of the pandemic, a truly trying time for everyone, all staff have shown great empathy towards Mum and her needs, in regards to care and well being, have been met since day one. Garioch Care Home is safe, secure and well maintained, as are the grounds, with bonny floral displays, in season, to add to the ambience of Garioch Care Home. The staff keep us informed as and when they need to and we are encouraged to contact the home if we have any questions/issues, at any time. That is very much appreciated, as are the regular residents' family meetings with senior staff. No matter how busy they are the staff always make time for visitors. All the staff are always friendly and approachable and because of the high standards they maintain at all levels, we have peace of mind knowing Mum is being well cared for.

Thank you all.

This home is adhering to guidance for families to visit their loved ones and it is evident that they are clear about Open with Care Guidance. The manager, lady at reception and the care staff have shown so much love, care, compassion and understanding for families to be together and understand the impact of when this can’t happen. They should be commended for this as an example of good practice.

Reply from Rae Paterson, Manager at Garioch Care Home

Thank you for your review, this really means a lot to all the staff. The last couple of years have been so difficult for everyone and we can truly see the importance of residents being with their loved ones and are happy to support these visits as much as possible within the guidance.

I cannot speak highly enough about the Garioch Care Home where my dad resided for the last seven years until he sadly passed away last month after a long battle with dementia. The professionalism, compassion and caring nature of all the staff meant my dad was always very happy and content and was such a big part of the Garioch family. I was regularly kept updated with all aspects of his care and wellbeing. A fantastic team and truly and home from home - secure, safe and facilities all excellent. They all do an amazing job, and I will be forever grateful to each and every one of them... thank you!

Team Garioch are delighted to receive such a positive review - with heartfelt thanks from what we like to think of as your extended family.

We had our doubts about Dad going in to a care home but Garioch Care Home surpassed all our expectations. Dad was extremely well taken care of, the staff are so caring and patient. We could call anytime we wanted to see how he was and Skype calls were encouraged due to Covid-19 restrictions. Any email correspondence was answered quickly and with a special touch so that Dad was not just a number. We could not have asked for better care or a more professional service. Sadly Dad passed away after only five weeks but in this time he had everything he needed and more. It was a great comfort to all of us that he was always clean and well dressed. He was treated to a birthday celebration tea party, allowed his own personal things in his room and we were kept informed of any changes or concerns. The atmosphere is welcoming and all of the staff were helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Our family can't thank them enough for the care they gave to Dad. Would definitely recommend.

Our mother was cared for extremely well over the time that she was resident in the care home until her death in October 2019. All the staff were friendly, cheerful, caring and competent. They always had the time to stay and chat with mum. We could not have wished for better care of our mother, especially over the last few months of her life following a debilitating stroke. She especially liked when any of the dogs came to visit her!

My friend has been a resident in Garioch for the past 3 months. She was quite lonely before going into care and rather apprehensive. Since she has been in I have noticed a change, she is bright and chats more when I visit. The staff are very friendly and approachable, they always make me feel welcome. They can't do enough for you. The home is clean and smells nice. There are activities on most days and I have seen some entertainers in. My friend appears quite content, her room is nicely decorated and she was able to bring in some of her own furniture.

I am the husband of a resident and I honestly believe that my wife would not be here today were it not for the dedicated care and attention of the staff here. My wife has been here for almost seven years and during the first two years, I had grave doubts about the place and my wife never seemed happy and did not get out of the bed. Since then my wife has come on leaps and bounds, laughing with staff and singing again, unbelievable! I am extremely grateful, many thanks.

From day one at Garioch, we have all been made fully welcome.
The staff have been so reassuring and patient with Mum.

We had a terrible experience with Mum's previous accommodation and care - Garioch have been truly amazing. The staff care and are so helpful.

My Father has Alzheimer’s and been a resident at the Garioch for nearly 5 years.
I visit several times a week, at various times of the day so I have a broad view of the daily routines and good level of care.
There are regular activities and the enjoyment can be seen on the smiling faces or the rhythmic tapping of a resident’s hand or foot in time to the music.
There are theme days where residents craft work proudly decorates the lounge and dining room.
There is minibus which my father has used on many occasions to get him safely to his appointments and we are very grateful to the staff for helping out, nothing seems too much trouble.
The staff are professional, focused and have a great blend of enthusiasm and skills.
I have complete confidence in the team and would recommend the Garioch Care Home to anyone.

If you are looking for a care home for your loved one, look passed the score you see on the report, visit the Garioch, speak to the team and see for yourself.

Mum has been at The Garioch for just over a year and she is being very well cared for. There is always a happy, friendly atmosphere and activities are often organised for the residents. Mum's personal hygiene is always of a high standard and staff take care that she is nicely dressed and comfortable. The bathrooms and day room have recently been refurbished and are now very attractive spaces; mum's room is small but is always clean and has a lovely view over surrounding countryside. Communication between the home and the family is generally good. Mum has settled well and seems very happy.

All the staff cared for mother in a very compassionate way. They always spoke to her and were very reassuring. The medical staff kept a constant watch on her health and wellbeing and were very good in keeping me informed of all health issues. The activities were tailored to suit Mum's capabilities especially when her ability to hold things decreased. She was always given the choice which maintained a degree of independence when she required ever increasing care. Mother was treated with great care and dignity until she passed away.

I qualified as a staff nurse many years ago, in 1989, and my first job was in elderly care in a hospital setting in Edinburgh. After a career break, which took me to Australia on a working holiday visa for a year, when I was in my mid-20s, I returned to the NHS to work in a stroke rehabilitation unit. For the majority of my life, I have worked in several Care Homes across Scotland in a variety of roles, from deputy to home manager, then peripatetic manager and I enjoyed it very much.

With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment and events industry and the last eight years dedicated to activities coordination in care settings since moving to Scotland, I have always strived to bring a touch of magic and joy to the activities I create.

I joined Garioch Care Home in February 2025, where I am passionate about delivering both meaningful, person-centred experiences and engaging group activities for all our residents. Seeing the smiles, laughter, and moments of connection shared between residents and their families has been deeply rewarding. My greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that, through my role, I can help enrich lives and create lasting memories every day.

I came from India with a passion to care and contribute towards society, and in July 2023, Garioch Care Home gave me my first opportunity in the UK.

Garioch is a warm and supportive place that values both its residents and staff. Since then, I have completed my SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care and am now pursuing Level 3, continuing to grow while making a difference in people’s lives.

I thoroughly enjoy my role and find great satisfaction in supporting others. Prior to this, I worked with Aberdeenshire Council for 24 years and with Paramount Care for 3 years.

I am Maria Isabela Castillo. I am currently working as a care staff member in Garioch Care Home in Inverurie. I obtained my BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree in my country, which is the Philippines. I worked as a nurse in one of the provincial hospitals in the Philippines. Then an opportunity abroad came in, and I worked as a live-in carer in Cyprus for 9 years. Then finally came here in the UK and am currently working as a care staff.

I consider it a vocation to work as a carer; it is my passion to look after the people I love (family), and I find it fulfilling that I am doing my job and enjoying the things that I love at the same time. For me to become a competent carer, a person should be patient, compassionate and empathetic. A good carer will treat the residents as their own family, and in that way, both residents and staff will thrive in an environment where positivity, love and respect will grow. I have done Professional Training, First Aid, Fire and Protection, Caring for Smiles Foundation Training Course, Safer Mobility and Falls Awareness, Moving and Handling, Care Notes Session.
