My friend has been a resident in Garioch for the past 3 months. She was quite lonely before going into care and rather apprehensive. Since she has been in I have noticed a change, she is bright and chats more when I visit. The staff are very friendly and approachable, they always make me feel welcome.
They can't do enough for you. The home is clean and smells nice. There are activities on most days and I have seen some entertainers in. My friend appears quite content, her room is nicely decorated and she was able to bring in some of her own furniture.

I am the husband of a resident and I honestly believe that my wife would not be here today were it not for the dedicated care and attention of the staff here. My wife has been here for almost seven years and during the first two years, I had grave doubts about the place and my wife never seemed happy
and did not get out of the bed. Since then my wife has come on leaps and bounds, laughing with staff and singing again, unbelievable! I am extremely grateful, many thanks.

My mum has been in the home for 2 years, she is very happy and well cared for. My mum is always dressed appropriately and is always clean and tidy. She enjoys the activities which are very good and well done.
Her room has a good view and is also kept clean. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

From day one at Garioch, we have all been made fully welcome.
The staff have been so reassuring and patient with Mum.
We had a terrible experience with Mum's previous accommodation and care - Garioch have been truly amazing. The staff care and are so helpful.

My Father has Alzheimer’s and been a resident at the Garioch for nearly 5 years.
I visit several times a week, at various times of the day so I have a broad view of the daily routines and good level of care.
There are regular activities and the enjoyment can be seen on the smiling faces or the rhythmic
tapping of a resident’s hand or foot in time to the music.
There are theme days where residents craft work proudly decorates the lounge and dining room.
There is minibus which my father has used on many occasions to get him safely to his appointments and we are very grateful to the staff for helping out, nothing seems too much trouble.
The staff are professional, focused and have a great blend of enthusiasm and skills.
I have complete confidence in the team and would recommend the Garioch Care Home to anyone.
If you are looking for a care home for your loved one, look passed the score you see on the report, visit the Garioch, speak to the team and see for yourself.

Mum has been at The Garioch for just over a year and she is being very well cared for. There is always a happy, friendly atmosphere and activities are often organised for the residents. Mum's personal hygiene is always of a high standard and staff take care that she is nicely dressed and comfortable.
The bathrooms and day room have recently been refurbished and are now very attractive spaces; mum's room is small but is always clean and has a lovely view over surrounding countryside. Communication between the home and the family is generally good. Mum has settled well and seems very happy.

All the staff cared for mother in a very compassionate way. They always spoke to her and were very reassuring. The medical staff kept a constant watch on her health and wellbeing and were very good in keeping me informed of all health issues. The activities were tailored to suit Mum's capabilities especially
when her ability to hold things decreased. She was always given the choice which maintained a degree of independence when she required ever increasing care. Mother was treated with great care and dignity until she passed away.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.474)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.474) out of 10 for Garioch Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.674 for Garioch Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.674
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Garioch Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment and events industry and the last eight years dedicated to activities coordination in care settings since moving to Scotland, I have always strived to bring a touch of magic and joy to the activities I create.

I joined Garioch Care Home in February 2025, where I am passionate about delivering both meaningful, person-centred experiences and engaging group activities for all our residents. Seeing the smiles, laughter, and moments of connection shared between residents and their families has been deeply rewarding. My greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that, through my role, I can help enrich lives and create lasting memories every day.

I am Maria Isabela Castillo. I am currently working as a care staff member in Garioch Care Home in Inverurie. I obtained my BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree in my country, which is the Philippines. I worked as a nurse in one of the provincial hospitals in the Philippines. Then an opportunity abroad came in, and I worked as a live-in carer in Cyprus for 9 years. Then finally came here in the UK and am currently working as a care staff.

I consider it a vocation to work as a carer; it is my passion to look after the people I love (family), and I find it fulfilling that I am doing my job and enjoying the things that I love at the same time. For me to become a competent carer, a person should be patient, compassionate and empathetic. A good carer will treat the residents as their own family, and in that way, both residents and staff will thrive in an environment where positivity, love and respect will grow. I have done Professional Training, First Aid, Fire and Protection, Caring for Smiles Foundation Training Course, Safer Mobility and Falls Awareness, Moving and Handling, Care Notes Session.
