Overall Experience
Since moving into Garioch care home, my friend is a lot less confused. Her dementia is not as bad as it was over a year ago. Good days and bad days.
She is being well cared for, is happier and enjoys the many activities in the care home. She tells me the food served by the kitchen staff is delicious. Praise indeed from a lady who dined out a lot.
The staff from the Manager, Secretary , nurses, maintenance staff and carers do all in their power to help my friend. They are caring, approachable and they do an excellent job.
They also make visitors welcome.

5* in all ways except for their old minibus which is proving difficult to use. I believe this will be repaired which will make life easier for both staff and residents. l

My partner's grandmother has been in Garioch care home for quite some time now and has settled in very well. This is undoubtedly due to the care and attention of the staff who have been friendly caring and quick to get in touch with us should any issues arise. She is happy and settled and well looked after and for us it is reassuring knowing that we can walk away after a visit with an easy mind and feel confident that she is in safe hands.

My sister has been a resident since December 2024, feel like the care received is good. Staff are kind and compassionate. To highlight the high standard of care I would like to acknowledge Care Assistant Maureen who has been very approachable and professional. Maureen often checks in on me and will always ensure I feel safe and well looked after. Big thank you to Maureen for being such a wonderful friend and carer to me.

My father become a resident in Garioch Care Home on 19th November 2024. Our initial meeting with the manager was very informative and our invitation to lunch along with our father was excellent. Future care has been amazing, with any of our concerns dealt with immediately. Staff are friendly and approachable.

Great and friendly staff who have helped my mum and myself navigate the care that she needs and also being very understanding of individual situations, my mum is very happy and settled here.

I can't thank the manager, the deputy manager and all the staff enough for what they do day to day for my mum.

As discussed I am very satisfied with the care received by my mother. She is happy and well looked after. The food always looks lovely, there is always nice home baking. It is never ideal to have a loved one in a care home but I genuinely believe Garioch is as good as we could hope for. The staff are absolutely exceptional, a real credit to you. Ten out of ten, 5 stars for the staff!

Having had no recent experience of relatives or friends in a care home, I was naturally anxious given some recent press reports. I now know my anxiety was unfounded given the treatment my father has received.

I have nothing to compare with, however, I find it impossible to find fault in any aspect of my father's care.

Good communication from management, nursing staff and carers. Any concerns I had were dealt with promptly. Each resident has individual needs and they are treated accordingly. There is a very homely atmosphere and lovely home-cooked meals. Lots of organised activities and entertainment. I would have no hesitation in recommending Garioch Care Home.

I have not ticked the box 'value for money' as I have no standards of comparison. Management are consistently pleasant and provide all help and information. In my opinion they generate a pleasant, friendly atmosphere in the home. Carers and nurses are also consistently friendly, cheerful and informative, while remaining at all times totally professional. Management and staff make Garioch a nice place to visit. I think it is a fine establishment.

Almost all of the management, office, care and cleaning/cooking staff's individual performance in terms of concern, care and interest in residents is excellent, which is remarkable considering the nature of the job - not easy! Where problems arise (and because of the nature of the environment they work in occasionally they do) the various staff immediately try to resolve them, if they can't they promptly find someone who can. On the whole, whatever level and discipline the staff are, they do an excellent job, way over and above what is required of them in looking after my wife. They all deserve individual recognition as well as a team.

Overall Experience
Dad has recently (1st month) moved into Garioch Care Home - what a difference a month makes! Even with his vascular dementia, he has returned (as much as possible) to his sociable self, sitting in the communal lounge, going on bus trips (Whitehills/Portsoy) and being more talkative rather than sitting alone in his living room all day with no company.
The staff are very considerate of his needs, and nothing appears too much trouble with his room made homely, his TV allowed to be fitted and as many memorable pictures as he wants - when his watch battery stopped, the maintenance team swapped the battery without a fuss, ensuring Dad didn't get agitated - his condition doesn't react well to change or difficulties, so changing a battery without a fuss while a small thing, is big in Dads eyes.
Now, when me and my family see Dad, we are visiting him rather than looking after him, which is great

Finally, Dad's, personal hygiene has returned to where it should be with the help of the staff.

My mother has been in the care of the Garioch Care Home from the beginning of the year. When going to visit I’m always welcomed by friendly and chatty staff. The atmosphere is homely and always cheery. All staff are always happy to help. The home is clean and I feel comfortable being there. There is always activities and entertainment going on. I trust them fully with my Mums care which puts me at ease. An overall lovely place.

I qualified as a staff nurse many years ago, in 1989, and my first job was in elderly care in a hospital setting in Edinburgh. After a career break, which took me to Australia on a working holiday visa for a year, when I was in my mid-20s, I returned to the NHS to work in a stroke rehabilitation unit. For the majority of my life, I have worked in several Care Homes across Scotland in a variety of roles, from deputy to home manager, then peripatetic manager and I enjoyed it very much.

With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment and events industry and the last eight years dedicated to activities coordination in care settings since moving to Scotland, I have always strived to bring a touch of magic and joy to the activities I create.

I joined Garioch Care Home in February 2025, where I am passionate about delivering both meaningful, person-centred experiences and engaging group activities for all our residents. Seeing the smiles, laughter, and moments of connection shared between residents and their families has been deeply rewarding. My greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that, through my role, I can help enrich lives and create lasting memories every day.

I came from India with a passion to care and contribute towards society, and in July 2023, Garioch Care Home gave me my first opportunity in the UK.

I am Maria Isabela Castillo. I am currently working as a care staff member in Garioch Care Home in Inverurie.
