Having been in the military for some considerable time (twenty-five years), I have learned to judge the character and ability of individuals of which I was connected. But seldom I have been in contact with a group that has impressed me as much as the staff and management of this care home.

The conducted themselves with absolute professionalism, keeping a cheerful disposition in all activities and were forever ready to discuss any problems that arose. I thank them all for the kindly way they look after my wife.

Choosing to put Dad into a care home was not a decision we took lightly and it came with a great deal of anxiety. However, Mowat Court has proved such a godsend that we now wish we'd moved Dad in years ago. There is such a homely, caring atmosphere and every member of the staff is kind and helpful. Visiting Dad is a pleasure because he is so well looked after and so happy. I am greeted like a friend by the staff and I enjoy feeling like part of the Mowat Court family. I love that pets are welcome and that the garden is safe but large and mature. I keep threatening dad that he can go and live at my house and I'll take his room at Mowat Court!

My mum has been in the care of this fantastic facility/team for just over 1year. I have never seen her looking happier or healthier. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and there is so much for my mum to do/be involved in. Fabulous home / fabulous staff / fabulous management team.

My mother was transferred from the hospital by ourselves into the Mowat Care Home Stonehaven. Unfortunately, my mother passed not long after. However the care home was beautiful, and the staff there were excellent. The way they cared for my mum was 1st class, even on her passing, very approachable, helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. I’m sure if my mum was given time she would have thrived there. I would certainly recommend the Mowat in Stonehaven for relatives of elderly parents to be placed there.

Excellent home. Very good staff. Have been here approximately 8 years. All original and new staff, as stated, are very good.
Been many places and other homes in Care UK group, plus given help in home - landscaping, growing grapes for wine and also tomatoes.

Also enjoy the home cats, dog and budgies.

My mother has been at Mowat Court since March 2020 after having to leave her previous care home as the staff did not have the capacity to cope with her advancing, and at times, challenging dementia.
Since admission to Mowat Court she has presented as very happy (in the main) and this is in no small part due to the caring and compassion shown by all staff.
We are particularly impressed with the staff's attention to detail in that they read her cues, know her triggers and are very proactive in preventing further distress when she becomes a little agitated.
The staff are warm, welcoming and communicate with us regularly when there is the slightest change in her care planning.
This is a small unit so the staff know my mother very well. As a result, she relates well in return and her eyes light up when a member of staff approaches her. I believe these strong attachments make her feel safe and secure.

In summary, we are grateful and delighted with the high level of skilled care.

I was delighted when we managed to secure a place for my mother-in-law at Mowat Court. My father had previously been a resident there and the staff were absolutely amazing at taking care of him. To my delight, there has been very few changes in staff and they immediately made my mother-in-law feel at home. While at home she had refused to eat, wouldn’t sleep in her bed and had become very despondent. Within the first couple of days at Mowat Court, she was eating, taking an interest in her surroundings and sleeping all night in a bed. This is thanks to the lovely staff, they’ve encouraged her and nothing is a problem for them. She seems to have taken a new lease of life and happily sits and plays scrabble and dominoes. I can’t thank the management and staff enough, the difference we have seen in her has been unbelievable and we are so grateful that she is now a resident there.

My mum has been in Mowat Court care home for the past four years after having a stroke which also brought on vascular dementia. It was quite a difficult time for us as a family as Mum was ok mentally and physically before this. The staff have been very good with Mum as she had a lot of things to adjust in her life. They are really patient with her and treat her as part of a big family, Mum thinks the staff all work for her and she has pet names for everyone.

The manager has been excellent with her and our family and, as with the rest of the staff, inform me when and if there is any sort of problem regarding Mum and her needs.

I have never seen my gran so happy recently since she moved to Mowat Court. The staff are outstanding, and she adores them all. So many wonderful activities keep her occupied and her health has improved, but most importantly, her smile has returned. This is a wonderful care home with incredible staff and a lovely family feel. I am so happy

My father-in-law was admitted to Mowat Court in January 2018 suffering from vascular dementia. Having had minimal experience of care homes, we were unsure as a family what to expect. What we found from his three years there was unwavering care, compassion and friendship. The staff really got to know him and had a really good understanding of him and they developed an excellent relationship. The team led by the unit manager, are all definitely in the right job. Their communication to us as a family was always above and beyond the necessary. They were also extremely kind to my mother-in-law who was a frequent visitor. During lockdown, they regularly called her and sent her cards and pictures of her husband to reassure her that he was ok. He was always treated with kindness, respect and dignity. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mowat Court - my mother-in-law has already told me that if necessary, she wants to go there!

Overall Experience

My mother entered Mowat Court after a second stroke. At first glance, my wife's and I assessment was that the facility itself was rather average in appearance, and indeed, could use some sprucing up. It was obvious that a bit of money needed to be spent on it to counteract the wear and tear that it has endured.

However, not enough can be said about how utterly fantastic the staff are and the care, concern and friendship they displayed consistently to my mother with her time there. They truly treated her with the utmost of respect and dignity, took the time to get to know her as a person and to communicate personally to my wife and I as well. The manager is first-class and has pulled together a team of dedicated and devoted nurses and carers that ALWAYS went above and beyond the call of duty.

We ended up needing to move mum to a new care home because of distance from family and mum was very sad to leave all the friends she made while at Mowat Court. That in itself speaks volumes.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Mowat Court

We are delighted with the positive comments and scores for the care and support we provided your mother at Mowat Court and we are grateful for your constructive feedback. We are pleased to confirm that a substantial refurbishment of the home is due to commence in May 2017 and we are looking forward to unveiling its newly improved facilities later this year.

Moira Taylor
Moira TaylorJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2025

I have a Diploma in Higher Education in Nursing and a BA in nursing.

I also have a NEBS management certificate.

I’ve worked in management since 2001, so I have many years of experience. My last role was also as a care home manager for another organisation where we won care home of the year twice. It was a terrific achievement and one I am really proud of.

I chose to join Care UK because Mowat Court has a good reputation and is also in a great location for me as it is closer to home. I am looking forward to continuing the great work that is already being done here.

In my role, you need to be hard working and be a good communicator. As a manager, you also have to be willing to support colleagues and help them progress in their careers should they want to. For me, it is important that colleagues, residents and their relatives feel I am available to them, to listen and to provide help when it’s needed. Being able to listen and act on feedback is critical.

One of the best parts of working in a care home is the interaction between people. My favourite aspect is being able to get to know residents, their families and finding out what we can do to make things even better. We are all here to make a positive difference to people’s lives; when we do, it is so rewarding.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my grandchildren. I also enjoy cycling and yoga.
