Although Middleton Hall is an old building, the facilities are excellent. I have noted the kindness and care provided by all staff from reception, kitchen staff, carers to Smile Centre. You couldn't ask for better. The rooms are clean, warm and very pleasant. Safety and security is very accessible by
keypads etc. The smile centre is a pleasure to be in with all the staff so caring and kind towards residents. I have recommended Middleton Hall to friends whose elderly relatives were looking into care facilities.

Sometimes this place is absolutely wonderful other times I feel forgotton about. When I first came in the food was great but now I feel the standard has gone down. Most of the staff are wonderful and some need training. Overall I would say eveything is good.

Mum has been a resident for nearly 2 years and has largely settled into life in a care home. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and they attend to mums needs but there does seem to be a high turnover so it's hard for mum to get to know them. The activity centre is a blessing and I can't underestimate
the positive impact this has on mum. Her room is kept clean and she enjoys the meals and constant cups of tea. Overall I am happy that mum is at Middletonhall and I have a good relationship with the staff and can raise issues when they arise.
Reply from Michelle Stuart, Manager at Middleton Hall Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts about your mums experience at Middleton Hall. Were really pleased to hear that she has settled in well over the past two years and that you feel confident in the care and support she receives. Its wonderful to know that the activity centre has had such a positive impact on her wellbeing, and that she enjoys her room, the meals, and of course the steady supply of tea.

We appreciate your kind words about our team. While staff changes do happen, we understand how important continuity is for residents and their families, and we are always working to strengthen stability within the team. Your feedback is genuinely valued and helps us continue improving.

Its also great to hear that you feel comfortable raising any concerns with us. Maintaining open communication with families is incredibly important, and were glad you feel supported.

Thank you again for your thoughtful review and for trusting us with your mums care.

Mum has been at Middleton for almost a year now and thinks of it as home.
She loves the food and chatting to all the staff. She also loves having a BATH, something she was unable to have previously for fear of falling.
A particular favourite of hers is joining in all the available activities. Having
been a bit down and lonely in her previous home, we believe she has been given a new lease for life since arriving at Middleton. She especiallly loves listening to and singing along with the singers.
We have found everyone at Middleton to be caring, professional and friendly and always happy to have a chat with us if we need one.
There is a friendly, homely atmosphere throughout.
Thank you to everyone who helps mum remain happy and comfortable.

Mum has been a resident at Middleton Hall for 17 years. "We the family" could not be happier with the level of care that she gets. She has dementia and needs total care, and that's what she gets.
Nothing is to much for the carers, and they treat my mum with the love and respect that she deserves.
I would recommend Middleton Hall for any families that need care for their relatives.

My sister moved into Middleton Hall in November 2023. After a couple of months she settled in. She loves when staff go past her room and always say hello. Every member of staff, management, reception, carers, nurses, kitchen, laundry, cleaners, activities, maintenance, volunteers, (hopefully not missed
anyone) have all been fantastic. I'm glad we picked Middleton Hall for my sister. The grounds are well kept. The activities team always make us feel welcome. We'll done everyone.

It's been 5 years since my wife came to Middleton hall, and in that time there have been many changes, mostly for the improvement of services and personnel.
We have a well run garden with lots of seating areas which my wife adores, can't get her inside on sunny days so the staff give her meals outside
periodically. She takes great delight just watching the rabbits and squirrels.
There's an entertainment area in its own building we have called The Wee Hoose, there we have games activities singing and on occasions entertainers come to visit and give concerts, tea coffee cakes and light refreshments are always on hand for residents and their families. This is probably the most worthwhile part of the care home as it brings together all residents and families.
Reply from Ann Simpson, Manager at Middleton Hall Care HomeThanks for your lovely review , positive feedback is very good for staff wellbeing. We are glad you are happy with the wee hoose and all that happens there and thankyou for your ongoing support.

Our father has had the best care possible in his year of residency in Middleton Hall, as a family we want to thank all staff for the wonderful work they do day in and day out ensuring all the residents are looked after like their own family members.
The care and commitment to both the resident and
family members are so comforting and appreciated.
As a care home, I would rate this as one of the best in West Lothian.

Due to her poor mobility and lack of suitable social care, Mum decided to move into a care home. We visited Middleton Hall and immediately felt that this was a place where Mum would be happy. She moved in August 2022 and settled in really quickly as all the staff made her feel so welcome. She is really
happy and constantly tells us how lovely the staff are and how kind and considerate everyone is. The Smile Centre deserves a special mention as they provide activities and entertainment to the residents. The staff are always so happy and ensure that all the residents are included as the variety of activities means that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Recently Mum celebrated a milestone birthday and the staff pulled out all the stops to ensure that she was able to go out to a family celebration and she also had a party in the home too which residents and family attended. I’m sure Mum will spend many happy years living in Middleton Hall as it’s given her back her zest for life.
Reply from Ann Simpson, Manager at Middleton Hall Care HomeThank you Sylvia for your lovely review. We enjoyed Mum's party and her excitement at going out to meet her favourite footballer. I will pass your kind words on to the staff.

The care team on all the shifts are also spot on with my dad as well, they are good for a laugh and very professional. Would also
like to thank the nursing staff as well. Keep up the good work I hope I've not missed anyone out.

My Gran has been at Middleton Hall since October 2021 and very quickly become a beloved resident and gets on well with everyone, despite her cheek!
She is remarkably well cared for and loves it at Middleton Hall. It's like being part of a big family and everyone looks out for her. Her daily visits
to the Smile Centre are the highlight of her day and she really misses it when she can't go or it's not on. She gets on great with the staff there and they know her so well and make her feel comfortable. It can be daunting, especially for those with dementia to be in new surroundings and with new people, but she doesn't feel like that. The array of activities and events that are organised for the residents is amazing, there is always something to be involved in!
It's clear that her carers care deeply for the residents and we are so grateful to all the staff for all they do for her - she is so happy there.

Mum has been a resident at Middleton Hall since the end of April 2022. She has understandably taken a while to settle as it is a huge change for her. I am extremely pleased with the care she receives, the staff are all very nice and keep me updated with Mum's progress.
The attention that she has received
from the staff at the Smile Centre has been second to none. As someone with severe hearing loss, she was struggling to communicate and sometimes felt quite isolated. The girls have tried various different things to make her feel included and I feel I am seeing the benefit of all their efforts. The Smile Club is a great asset to Middleton Hall and all the residents.

My mother is so happy there as she now has companions every day. I realise now, that trying to keep her in her own home was not the correct thing to do. All the staff advise me that she is so happy helping with cleaning and loves the activities that she can get involved with. She has a disability the
care home have never had before and she is ‘teaching’ the staff which they say is very interesting!
I would recommend Middleton Hall to any other person who is struggling to find a home for their loved ones.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.981)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.981) out of 10 for Middleton Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.604 for Middleton Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.604
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.377 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Middleton Hall Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.727
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
