I am happy that my Mum is in a secure and safe environment with friendly and approachable staff. The staff are trying to engage her in the activities within the home but Mum's not very interested in artistic handcrafts etc, perhaps other activities could be looked for. Although it is usually easy enough
to speak with staff it would be beneficial for relatives to have some regular/quarterly meetings with the manager and staff to discuss matters within the home. Overall I am pleased with Mum's care.
Reply from Janice McCormick, Home Manager at The Argyle Care HomeWe appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on The Argyle Care Home. It brings us great joy to hear of your happiness knowing that your mother is in a friendly, secure and safe environment. We always welcome new activity suggestions from family members, and this month, we have a wide range of activities on offer, including gardening, yoga, meditation, manicures, live singing performances, and more. Our relative's meetings are held quarterly, with the next one scheduled for June. Please note that we have an open-door policy, and you can arrange to speak with the care home management at any time. Thanks again for your review.

My dad has only been in 2 weeks and we have had lots of issues with the care home including a serious safety issue. Poor standards of practice and management. The Care Home has promised improvements but time will tell.
Reply from Janice McCormick, Home Manager at The Argyle Care HomeThank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback. We appreciate your concern regarding the "serious safety issue" you brought to our attention. As we discussed, our garden is secure, and it is standard practice to encourage our residents to access the garden through the patio doors. Nevertheless, we value your feedback and have since implemented a keypad entry to further enhance the security of the garden area access. Your input is important to us, and we are committed to continuously improving our facilities based on the feedback we receive. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Initially when Mum moved onto the home she was involved by the Staff in the activities but as time went on and Mum's dementia worsened her involvement became less and less. I would however like to say that the staff were always friendly and welcoming to me whenever I visited. My issues began when Mum's
health deteriorated due to her Bowel Cancer, Mum was admitted to hospital and it took three days for me to be informed of her admission, I was not contacted because suddenly one number was incorrect in my contact mobile number. When she was released from the hospital because they could do nothing more for her I didn’t get sight of the discharge letter until two days later when a nurse in the home informed me that Mum was terminally ill. The home would not provide lip balm for her dry lips, they required a prescription, nor would they give her a straw to drink with, I had to bring some in.
Her end-of-life care fell mostly to myself, ensuring that she was washed and changed daily.

For such a well-worn, charming building, the facilities and the staff make it a very caring environment for the residents. It is run like clockwork and the staff can accommodate most requests.
They are super friendly and extremely professional in their roles.

The staff are wonderful, and they look after my mother really well. Some of them call her auntie; she is well taken care of, and every day I am in, she has clean bedding. The staff are amazing. Thank you so much for all your love and care.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.592)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.592) out of 10 for The Argyle Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.667 for The Argyle Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (138 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 198 Ratings = 4.667
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Argyle Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
