Visited friend who has recently moved to the Firs and cannot praise the place enough. Noticed a massive difference in how content my friend was since moving. His mood and behaviour has improved a lot. The place was spotless and the staff very attentive. I visited during a cheese and wine afternoon and could see all of the people living there so content and enjoying their day. Spoke to the care manager who took the time to reassure us and answer any questions we had. He invited us to enjoy the cheese and wine afternoon with my friend. Was so nice to feel included.

Throughout lockdown of COVID, the care home has continued to run with minimum impact upon the lives of the residents living in their care. My closest friend has now been living in The Firs for almost a year now and the difference it has made has been life-changing, I am able to follow almost daily their activities on social media and the genuine relationships and interaction between the staff and residents brings a smile to my face, knowing it was the right decision!

I must also say a huge well done to management and staff as The Firs have worked hard through these difficult times and have thankfully remained COVID free throughout. Thank you and stay safe.

This nursing home goes above and beyond to do varying tasks with the residents - a short time ago we did the summer care home olympics! They do crafts tasks, baking tasks, dancing it’s just so much fun never seems like a dull day there. It’s an honour to volunteer along-side the wonderful staff who work there, they are amazing people so warm and welcoming. It would be the first place I would recommend to anyone looking for the best facility to look after their loved ones.

My mother suffers from very advanced dementia and we moved back to Scotland after living in Asia for many years. I visited many care homes before The Firs but it was immediately clear that they were different. They make it feel like a home and although my mum is non-verbal and immobile, they always include her in all of the activities. When you visit, they make you feel so welcome and the home has such a vibrant and friendly vibe to it. Also, and one of the most important factors for me, there is no smell in the home unlike many of the others I visited. They locked down the home even before the government insisted and have very strict rules over visiting. They seem to have had a blast over the summer with fetes and Olympics being run. Honestly, it seems more like a social club than a care home. The staff are amazing. I have already mentioned to them that if I need care and looking after that I would wish to be in The Firs. I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done.

Mum decided she couldn’t cope at home any more and we finally found the manager at The Firs - she was so personable and professional that we both knew she’d be in safe hands.
It was a big step for mum, but she was made to feel so welcome and cared for, that those first few days were much easier than we could have hoped for.
Mum always liked her privacy and was happy with her own company, and that was respected during her time at The Firs. She loved sitting in the garden reading, something she hadn’t been able to do for years. She even took part in some of the group exercise classes and one of the outings.
I enjoyed visiting her there, the staff were just a pleasure to be around and I could see how much they loved mum - and she them! I knew that when I left after my visits that she was in safe hands.

The staff at The Firs have a special place in my heart for the love and care they gave mum in the last months of her life. I’m not sure I can find the words to express my gratitude enough.
