My mum is 91 and the staff at the firs have been looking after her for few years now and I find all the staff very attentive and always informative of any change in my mum's condition, she was diagnosed with cancer and have been very supportive with any worries or concerns I have, the food menu is excellent and varied each day and rooms are spotless.
Mother placed here as an emergency resided for around 5/6 weeks Dec 2025. Disaster from start to finish. Assaulted by a member of staff who was dismissed and police charging them - resulted in a mighty black eye. Mother was only trying to get another resident help as she cared others were mistreated I believe. Not enough staff to take her to hospital, should have had an xray at least. Every day left sleeping until after lunch time. Dementia focused apparently, seems to be only straightforward residents. Cannot meet needs of the complexities dementia may bring - be aware! Flung out to a&e (so she was NHS' problem) no socks on and no teeth or hearing aids and no change of clothes in winter. Had to collect these ourselves while caring for our mother in a&e, refused to have my mother back - massive blessing in disguise. Small number of staff who care, but understaffed. Communication was awful. Manager commented my mother held herself on too high a regard than the other residents-Wonder Why
Thank you for sharing your concerns. We are sorry that your experience of Northgate House has resulted in you feeling this way. We acknowledge that a serious incident involving a staff member occurred during your relative's stay. Northgate House acted immediately when this became known, taking...
July 2025 the delay in writing this report is I had to wait for the outcome of inspection from Care Inspectorate two of my complaints upheld. Every visit he was sitting wet. Lies told that his GP had issued creams GP has no record, No bed rails. Staff couldn't name his carer in leu TV was given 3 days before discharge no remote control He had to stand over his loo hold onto a diagonal rail to be washed Lies told in number of baths he had Shoddy paperwork or none at all. The manager even took Umbridge and refused to answer my questions and decided to stop writing to avoid having to answer the above points lacking in my husband's care That was when I took advice from Care Inspectorate. I was assured he would be well taken care of We were both badly let down Lies Lies and more Lies!
Thank you for your feedback regarding the respite stay in July 2025. While concerns were raised with the Care Inspectorate, several statements within this review are inaccurate and reflect a misunderstanding of care home legislation and the differences between residential, hospital, and family-led...
My mum was in for 3 weeks respite care. She was very reluctant to go in. She had great carers and was looked after very well. When I went to pick her up she didn't want to leave. The place was very clean. Cant thank them enough for their care.
I had to call for staff on several occasions when ,residents were either upset or got into an altercation . There is a residents TV room where they are gathered up sat on big chairs or strapped into wheelchairs i seen as meany as 17 residents with one carer in charge if anyone stood up he quickly went over to sit them back down to watch the boy band on TV .i asked a few times why my aunts feet were so swollen no one knew turns out no feet rest on wheelchair she was strapped into . Two men were taking her to the toilet . I found her in bed at 6.30pm fully clothed with a quilt and a blanket as well as a heater on in her room said she was tired. Dont think i was expected to visit again that day after a meeting that morning .the place is a sham anyone can walk in and out no checks . meany items go missing even though they had name on including clothes ,and eye glasses management a joke !! Could go on & on.
Visited friend who has recently moved to the Firs and cannot praise the place enough. Noticed a massive difference in how content my friend was since moving. His mood and behaviour has improved a lot. The place was spotless and the staff very attentive. I visited during a cheese and wine afternoon and could see all of the people living there so content and enjoying their day. Spoke to the care manager who took the time to reassure us and answer any questions we had. He invited us to enjoy the cheese and wine afternoon with my friend. Was so nice to feel included.
I can easily say these guys have been brilliant with my mum. She's now there permanently and they provide a great service. From the managers, office staff nurses and care workers, even to the kitchen staff. Absolutely fantastic and I have no hesitation in recommending this care home. Highly satisfied. Thank you Olympia House. My mother has so picked up since she moved there in November. That's all down to the manager and staff.
All in all great place.
My father has been in the care home for 6 weeks now. After settling in we are happy with the care home, the only thing I would improve is the weekend staff seem to be all Agency and don't seem to care the way the weekly staff care. Hence we have to be there at weekends.
Thank you for your valuable feedback and I am pleased that you are happy with the care. Regarding weekend agency use, we will review our rosters to enable equal numbers of permanent and agency staff on each day.
The standard of care at Arcadia Gardens was excellent. The room was clean and tidy. The standard of nursing care was outstanding. The carers were so helpful and understanding during difficult times. Can't praise the staff highly enough.
We have found the care and atmosphere at Arcadia Gardens wonderful. Our mum settled in with the help of wonderful staff and a loving environment. Geography and closeness to her sisters are the only reasons we are moving Mum - otherwise, we would be keeping the current set-up. We want to say a big thank you to the wonderful staff and residents of Arcadia Gardens and wish you all the very best.
My dad is well looked after and is much happier than he has been in a long time. I am happy with the care he is receiving. Many thanks.
Naturally, it took a few weeks for my cousin to settle and for the staff to get to know her and understand her needs. Since then she has been well cared for in a gentle, non-patronising way. She's very happy and settled which is reassuring after the resistance she displayed to going in. She is enjoying the food and eating well. Thank you so much to all the caring, dedicated staff.
Great staff and Mum well looked after.
The staff in this care home are the most efficient I have ever met. Their care of the residents is second to none. All visitors are made so welcome and residents are so much at ease.
The warm, caring nature of Arcadia Gardens is evident from the moment you arrive. The facility is very clean, tidy, and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and understanding of a relative's concerns. I'm so glad my uncle was temporarily put there as my mind was rest-assured.
I have only positive things to say about my dad's stay in Arcadia Gardens. Overall, the family are satisfied with the level of care my dad has received during his spell in the care home.
The care given to my mum by all nursing and care staff is 100%. The rooms etc are spotless. A very clean atmosphere. I rate Northgate House Care Home "5 Star". My mum is so content.
Excellent rapport from all staff.
My mother has been very poorly in hospital and was transferred to Northgate awaiting medical review and assessment regarding transition and residential care. The carers have been outstanding in their care of my mother. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their love of what they do is evident. My mother feels valued and supported and feels independent due to Northgate's encouragement for her to be active and involved. My mother is delighted by their care.
