My mum was underweight, withdrawn and had problems with her mobility when she entered Applecross due to ARBD.

My mum is always clean and well maintained and staff have always ensured her mat is at her bedside for her safety.

One year on and my mum is at a stable weight, she is communicating more

and no longer requires support or a wheelchair for her mobility. She has improved both cognitively and physically. Management and staff go above and beyond for residents and their families.

My mum enjoys participating in outings and activities provided at Applecross such as bowling, fish and chips on the boat, pottery etc.

Staff always call with updates on any changes and arrange a review of the care plan together. Any requests have always been taken into consideration and all staff encourage family involvement as much as possible.

Amazing place with amazing people

Reply from John Murray, General Manager at Applecross Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind feedback. Applecross Nursing home provides a well maintained, safe, clean and stimulating environment. All staff are welcoming and work extremely hard to get to know residents through visitors, in order to communicate with residents effectively. The service they provide is excellent. Nursing staff work effectively
in the team and sensitively speak with family members. All other staff work so hard in their roles to ensure residents have excellent care.

The staff are great with my son. He can't do anything for himself so he depends on everyone in the care home to help him. Although he hates having a shower with them and needs to be fed with them. Management is great when you see them, always asking if everything is ok, if you need help with anything,
they will help you.
Reply from John Murray, General Manager at Applecross Nursing HomeThank you for your kind review.

We are pleased to hear your positive comments about our team and the care they provide to your son. We understand that some aspects of care can be challenging, and our staff always aim to support residents with dignity and reassurance. It's also lovely to hear your feedback about our management team being approachable and supportive.

Thank you again for your trust and support.

The staff at the nursing home are, without exception, friendly and helpful. They listen to what we have to say, and they act on our suggestions, following a discussion if required, although sometimes, there is a need to reinforce the execution of the agreed action. There is a bit of a lack of completion
of a feedback loop so that relatives have to persist. I feel that despite the best of intentions, there is a bit of a lack of opportunity to sit together to review the sadly, very complicated situation of my relative, and frankly, a lot of this is due to the parlous state of NHS provision. This relative lack of communication is entirely due, in my opinion, to the staff having to work extremely hard to deliver services, and I really appreciate their efforts. I am sure that I could get more of what I want by nagging or being a nuisance, but I am reluctant to place even more of a burden on the staff. And so we continue to provide our own initiatives, and to progress by baby steps.
Reply from John Murray, General Manager at Applecross Nursing HomeThank you for your thoughtful and balanced review.

We are very pleased to hear your kind comments about our team. It is important to us that relatives feel listened to and involved, and it is encouraging to know this is your experience.

We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding communication and closing the feedback loop. You are right to highlight this, and it is something we are working to improve, particularly ensuring agreed actions are followed through and clearly communicated.

We recognise the challenges involved in complex situations and the wider pressures on services. However, we agree that this should not prevent meaningful opportunities to sit together and review care properly.

Please don't feel like a nuisance for asking questions or requesting updates. We are always happy to arrange time to discuss your relative's care in detail.

Thank you again for your support and valuable feedback.

My elderly mother, who is a resident, had a fall and required to have a hip replacement.
The experience at both hospitals mum was a patient in, only highlighted how great the care at Applecross Nursing Home is.
As a family, we will never be able to praise and thank each member of staff. They have
gone above and beyond, and we can only be happy in the knowledge that my mam is in good hands, as she journeys along in the last stage of her life.

My Brothers stay was awful -the manager claims my brother wanted to move to be nearer family yes that is true but he also wanted to move due to feeling unsafe at Applecross -due to resident being in his room during the night numerous times also numerous items including monies going missing virtual assistant
device, missing vapes , cigarettes, mobile phone all missing - the Social work & Police Scotland had to be brought in - my brother felt very unsafe - also items were added to sundries list that i had in actual fact bought & paid for myself & Applecross tried to charge me for them also -who actually spends £100 on taxis in one day? they tried to make out it is what my brother asked for - the cleanliness left a lot to be desired as i have stated to management previously i have witnesses to certain things that transpired at Applecross - so the manager can continue to deny what has went on - i would say please consider very carefully before letting your loved ones reside here - NOT SAFE
Reply from John Murray, General Manager at Applecross Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your brother felt unsafe during his stay, and we apologise for the distress caused by another resident entering his room. The concerns you've raised were fully investigated at the time in partnership with Social Work, and appropriate actions were taken in response to the specific issues identified. We appreciate that this was a distressing experience, and we regret that our service did not meet your expectations. We have already reviewed our procedures around security, belongings and financial transactions to ensure greater transparency and protection for residents. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter with you directly to address any remaining concerns and provide further clarification in a private and constructive way.

After a sudden bereavement my sister who has Multiple Sclerosis had to find suitable accommodation to meet her needs. She moved into Applecross in February and has settled in very well. In her own words she feels safe and cared for. The staff have been very attentive and caring and she has also got
to know other residents and has been taking part in activities. It is a great relief for us to know she is happy in her new accommodation and that she feels safe and comfortable whilst having the opportunity to take part in activities and outings. Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.709)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.709) out of 10 for Applecross Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.709 for Applecross Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (311 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 392 Ratings = 4.709
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Applecross Nursing Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 82 registered maximum number of service users is 16.4, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
