Review from Catriona M (Sister of Resident) published on 5 May 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

After a sudden bereavement my sister who has Multiple Sclerosis had to find suitable accommodation to meet her needs. She moved into Applecross in February and has settled in very well. In her own words she feels safe and cared for. The staff have been very attentive and caring and she has also got to know other residents and has been taking part in activities. It is a great relief for us to know she is happy in her new accommodation and that she feels safe and comfortable whilst having the opportunity to take part in activities and outings. Her room is comfortable and we have been able to make it feel homely.

Our brother has complex and occasionally challenging care needs. It was quite difficult to find a suitable home for him when he could no longer look after himself. After searching the greater Glasgow area, including visiting and rejecting some other nursing homes, we feel we hit the jackpot with Applecross. It's a lovely home in a pleasant location, and we have got to know so many wonderful and professional carers and support staff in the 3+ years that our brother has been living there.

We are confident that he benefits from all the care that he needs, he is absolutely in the best place for him, and there's always plenty going on if he wishes to participate. We can't thank the staff enough for taking such good care of him!

Before my son came here 13 years ago I went to various care homes and found Applecross to be superior to any other. Over the years it has gotten even better. The staff are wonderful, activities second to none and the management very approachable. Highly recommend this nursing home.

The staff are fantastic, nothing is a problem. The care my 89-year-old Mum has been receiving I really can't fault, cannot fault anyone since the day my mum arrived. Any time family need anything - tea or something to eat they are always there to support the family as much as they are my mum.

My sister moved into Applecross in March this year. Instantly I knew we had made the right decision, the staff were all welcoming and friendly. My sister has had excellent care since being here and as a family, we have felt included in decisions around her care. We have had a 1-month and 6-month review in which we were able to look at her care plans that were in place and add to these. Overall we are very happy with the care she receives here.

Review from Elaine M (Wife of Resident) published on 7 November 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I am so happy and grateful that I found Applecross Home, after reviewing many homes, as a suitable place that would provide good nursing care for my ex-husband.

He needs 24/7 nursing care following a massive stroke which has left him paralysed down one side and with severe difficulty speaking. He is 'only' 64 years old and I found many Homes would not accept someone of that age. The staff are kind, caring and dedicated. They persevered with many issues until he eventually settled in. We all work together to ensure he gets the best care possible. They are open and honest, and they let me know when there are problems, which are inevitable, but means I can trust their care and decision-making. The staff work as a team and go the extra mile to bring interest and entertainment to make it a happy place to live. The catering staff do a brilliant job with good food and delicious cakes! Thanks to all of you for everything you do.

Review from Katrina M (Wife of Resident) published on 5 August 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I recently had to make the most difficult decision imaginable, to put my husband into full-time care. This situation could not have been more devastating for me, our extended family or friends. We always hoped he would recover sufficiently from his brain injury that at some point we could take him home, though this was not to be, he requires 24-hour care. From the initial contact with Applecross, whilst looking for the right placement for my husband, the team could not have been more accommodating, approachable, open or supportive.

The nursing, auxiliary, domestic, maintenance, reception, kitchen staff and all other departments we've been in contact with, have been nothing but professional and exceptionally kind. Since moving to Applecross, what we see is great care being given with the utmost respect. My husband has settled in well very quickly, and the staff have also shown genuine concern for me. They have made an exceptionally difficult time more bearable, we are very grateful to all.

My son was cared for by Applecross care home staff for eight years after a head injury left him totally helpless and I will always be grateful to them for their kindness and cheerfulness throughout his time there. Even at the end when things were really difficult for us, the kitchen staff brought fresh sandwiches, and this quiet kindness throughout was a great comfort to us. Thank you all at Applecross from the family.

I just wanted to write to extend my thanks to all the staff caring for my sister. A member of staff 'phoned last week to say she'd called an emergency doctor out as she thought my sister looked unwell and didn't want to take any chances. For the past week, all the staff involved in her care have been amazing. One of the nurses (unfortunately I can't recall his name) 'phoned early one morning to provide an update. His kindness and assurance were very much appreciated. My thanks to another member of staff in particular whose kindness and professionalism is amazing; and anyone else on Lewis who I've forgotten to mention, the Occupational Therapist, and all your amazing staff.

We have a sister who is a resident at Applecross Nursing Home for the past three years and cannot express how grateful we are for the superb care and attention she has received from the staff. From the moment she arrived, I felt a sense of warmth and compassion that made her feel like she was at home. All of the staff are friendly, caring and professional and go above and beyond to make sure that all the residents have everything they need. She has been made to feel so welcome and has had an amazing experience while living there. I would highly recommend Applecross Nursing Home to anyone looking for a great place to call home.
